After listening to Liyami’s explanation, Aiwei furrowed her brows and lowered her head, deep in thought.
After a while, she looked up at Liyami.
“This Magic Circle you mentioned, I’ve never seen it before, nor have I heard of anything similar occurring anywhere. How about this: when I return, I’ll help you investigate and see if there are any clues. You don’t need to go back to the Secret Society just yet. I’ll contact you personally over the next period.”
Hearing that even the President didn’t know about this Magic Circle, Liyami couldn’t help but feel a wave of disappointment.
But she quickly adjusted herself.
She had considered similar situations before.
Now, all she could do was continue living like this, waiting for good news from the President.
Seeing Liyami’s faint disappointment, Aiwei seemed to recall something.
With a slightly admiring tone, she said,
“I didn’t expect it was really you. That’s why when I sensed an Assassin’s Mark during our communication yesterday, something felt off. I checked carefully. Although the Assassin’s Mark was a bit strange, I found nothing wrong with it. Now that I think about it, that must have been your Assassin’s Mark.”
“Something felt off? Checked?!”
Liyami recalled in confusion: Yesterday…checked…Assassin’s Mark…could it be!
Liyami remembered that after receiving the Assassin’s Mark’s message yesterday, for a short period afterward, her body suddenly felt restless and filled with unfulfilled desire, almost causing her to pounce on Colin!
She hadn’t expected it was because the President was inspecting her Assassin’s Mark…
That’s right!
She should tell the President about this too and see if there was any solution.
Liyami pulled open her clothes and revealed the Silver Mark on her lower abdomen to the President.
At first, Aiwei didn’t understand what Liyami was doing, but when she saw the Silver Pattern, she fell silent.
After perhaps a few minutes—or maybe just a few seconds—
Aiwei trembled and opened her mouth.
“I-I didn’t expect you actually abandoned the Secret Society to become a Demoness! You’re a disgrace to us assassins! How could you fall so low!!”
Hearing the President’s words, Liyami was stunned at first but quickly snapped back.
“No, President! That’s not what I mean. I didn’t abandon the Secret Society! This is my Assassin’s Mark!”
“Your Assassin’s Mark?”
Aiwei paused.
She glanced at the Silver Mark on Liyami’s lower abdomen and then at Liyami’s sincere eyes.
Aiwei’s mouth twitched.
“You…call that an Assassin’s Mark? No matter how you look at it, that’s just a Silver Pattern.”
“No, President! It really is my Assassin’s Mark. It turned into a Silver Pattern because of that damned Magic Circle!”
Upon hearing this, Aiwei examined Liyami again.
She began to suspect that this Liyami might be a Demoness in disguise.
But the Liyami before her was indeed not a Demoness in disguise.
What she said was true.
Aiwei could feel the familiar magic from the Assassin’s Mark on Liyami’s lower abdomen—the residual magic left when she engraved the mark on each assassin.
She wouldn’t be mistaken.
“Alright, it seems you’re telling the truth. I’ll try to find relevant information for you when I return. So unless something urgent happens, don’t show that Silver…ahem, Assassin’s Mark to others.”
Aiwei rubbed her forehead and gave Liyami a warning.
Liyami nodded, promising to be more careful in the future.
Seeing that Liyami had finished telling her story, Aiwei prepared to officially start their routine communication.
Her expression grew serious again as she stared intently at Liyami and spoke slowly.
“So, how’s your mission going?”
Hearing the President’s question, Liyami trembled slightly but quickly forced herself to steady.
Putting on a brave face, she answered cautiously with a slight tremor in her voice, “V-very smoothly. I’m already very close to Colin. I’m just waiting for the right opportunity to assassinate him.”
However, Aiwei clearly wasn’t satisfied with the answer.
She narrowed her eyes and said coldly, devoid of any emotion,
“Oh, that’s wonderful. You spent two whole years just to get close to your target and now you might be able to kill him. Wow, very few assassins can do what you have…Are you really prepared to kill him?”
At the President’s final question, Liyami’s body shook.
She slowly squeezed out a few words, “W-what…President, what do you mean by that?”
“What do I mean? Are you serious? I’m asking you, do you really want to kill him? It’s been two years already. Have you ever made a move?”
Upon hearing this, Liyami trembled more violently, her breathing heavy and unsteady, almost losing balance.
Because she knew if her answer was wrong, the President might kill her on the spot.
Although she was one of the strongest assassins in the Shadow Sect, to the President, she was just a disposable tool.
If she died, they’d simply train another.
Liyami gathered her thoughts and slowly said,
“No, President…The target is extremely powerful. If I don’t act carefully, failure could mean no second chance. So I plan to strike only when everything is absolutely certain.”
“Heh heh.”
Aiwei chuckled.
She watched Liyami with interest for a moment before pulling out a seemingly ordinary wooden box from her cloak.
She opened it to reveal a bottle of black Magic Potion exuding a sinister aura.
“I knew you’d say that. Don’t worry, I’ve already prepared a method for you. Look, I personally refined this and it took quite some time. Although it smells strong, if you apply it to your weapon beforehand, it leaves no trace of magic or scent. Even an 80-level Paladin would find it hard to detect. And the poison is potent—an 80-level target would succumb within a minute.”
Aiwei lifted the potion from the box and handed it to Liyami.
“You just need to coat your weapon with it and wait for a good moment to strike. Even Colin can’t resist this potion. How about that? Easy, right? I’m thoughtful, aren’t I? After all, I have high hopes for your future.”
Staring at the potion the President offered, Liyami’s heart twisted in conflict.
She slowly reached out her hand, but stopped just before touching the bottle.
Seeing this, Aiwei raised her eyebrow, about to shove the potion into Liyami’s hand.
But Liyami withdrew her hand.
Aiwei’s expression darkened.
Liyami’s gaze grew firm.
Her body no longer trembled, and her breathing steadied.
She had made her decision, even if it might cost her life.
Taking a deep breath, she looked straight into Aiwei’s eyes and said clearly and deliberately, “President, I don’t think Colin should be assassinated. He’s a good person. He shouldn’t die.”
