“Going to North Blossom City?”
Xiaoxi was taken aback, not understanding what this had to do with helping Ye Xinglan evade the Council’s actions.
The Astrologer sighed.
“Rather, it’s me who needs your help, Xiaoxi. You probably don’t know—just a couple days ago, something major happened in North Blossom City.”
“Judgment Scales is dead.”
Xiaoxi’s heart trembled, her eyes wide in disbelief at what she just heard.
Judgment Scales was the S-class Magic Girl stationed in North Blossom City.
Although Xiaoxi wasn’t familiar with her, she remembered that the small tool Muxingge used when signing the Contract after the comic convention was made by Judgment Scales herself.
There hadn’t been any huge disasters in North Blossom City recently, had there? How could such a powerful S-class Magic Girl suddenly just…
“Who was the murderer?”
“No one knows. But we suspect someone from the Association is behind it,” the Astrologer shook her head.
“Actually, that’s precisely why we need your help. Do you remember what I said before, about the Association having a mole inside?”
Xiaoxi’s expression grew grave as she realized the severity of the issue.
The Council had just confirmed there was a mole within the Association, and now something like this happened—anyone would think the two things were connected, right?
“The Association is investigating the murderer, too. But at a time like this, who in the Association can you trust one hundred percent? That’s why the Council needs a trustworthy outsider to secretly look into this.”
“And as for Ye Xinglan, with her complicated condition as the Blood Moon Witch, the Council only feels safe making a move on her inside Hidden Bone Hall—but, as it happens, North Blossom City doesn’t have a Hidden Bone Hall entrance.”
“As her guardian, you’d definitely have to bring Ye Xinglan with you to North Blossom City. That means Ye Xinglan will be absolutely safe while she’s there, and you won’t have to tear your face with anyone from the Council. During this time, we’ll have plenty of time to figure out another solution. So? Isn’t this a win-win solution?”
Miss L nodded from the side.
“I think it’s pretty good. And if I remember right, aren’t you from North Blossom City, Xiaoxi? You know your way around and can use this chance to visit home. Plus, you don’t have a house or a job in Summersea City, so leaving for a while won’t affect you…”
Xiaoxi clamped her hand over Miss L’s mouth. “Enough, you’re not allowed to say another word!”
“By the way, there’s something else,” the Astrologer spoke again, “I think even if not for Ye Xinglan, you’d still be willing to get involved in this matter.”
“In the murder of Judgment Scales, your former teammate, the Silverflame Dragon Princess, is under serious suspicion.”
“Impossible!” Xiaoxi blurted out before she could even think. “Ling… Silverflame Dragon Princess would never do something like that!”
If it were someone else under suspicion, she might have believed it, but the Silverflame Dragon Princess was the Guardian of North Blossom City.
How could the Association suspect her? Besides, Xiaoxi knew full well that with Silver Bell’s personality, she absolutely wouldn’t do such a thing!
The Astrologer sighed.
“I don’t want to believe the culprit is that child either. So, you understand? Only by finding the real murderer can you clear your former teammate’s name… Well? This is the first time the Council has ever asked you to handle something—will you refuse?”
Xiaoxi hardly hesitated. Although the Council had told her it was up to her to decide whether to help, she had no reason to refuse this time, both emotionally and rationally.
“I agree. But I might need a few days—my job…”
Su Ying’s café had just reopened, business was even better than before, and it was right when she needed people most.
Back then, this job from Miss Su Ying had been a lifeline for Xiaoxi—she really didn’t want to quit at such a critical moment.
At the very least, she’d have to wait until Su Ying hired someone new.
Thinking of this, Xiaoxi shot Miss L another glare… Who said she didn’t have a stable job in Summersea City?
“So the dignified Eternal Star’s job is to be a Maid at a café, huh?” Miss L chuckled.
“Well, actually, I might be able to help with that.”
……
The next day, inside Miss Su Ying’s café.
Fox Momomo and An Wanwan, both wearing Maid uniforms, stood in front of Xiaoxi and called out in unison, “Sen—ior!”
Xiaoxi frowned. She’d been called ‘Senior’ plenty in the Magic Girl business, but this was the first time in the Maid world… It felt pretty weird.
Xiaoxi pulled Miss L aside. “These are the people you found for me?”
She could understand bringing in Fox Momomo, but why did Miss L have to bring that Succubus An Wanwan too?
Xiaoxi still remembered how that Succubus had used Aphrodisiac Poison on her last time!
“Don’t underestimate An Wanwan just because she’s a Bounty Hunter. She’s actually very shrewd,” Miss L lowered her voice.
“She’s been a Bounty Hunter for years, but she’s never killed or committed arson. She only takes harmless little jobs.”
An Wanwan wasn’t kind—she was just timid and had principles.
She never did anything dirty that could get her into big trouble, or she wouldn’t have just run off after using a harmless bit of Aphrodisiac Poison on Xiaoxi.
If it weren’t for the hefty bounty from Black Rose, she wouldn’t have partnered with someone like the Butcher!
Because of that, the Association was always at a loss for how to deal with her.
Then Miss L set her sights on An Wanwan. Just like with Fox Momomo, An Wanwan had great potential as an Informant.
So Miss L took this chance to pull them both over to work at Su Ying’s café for free, to get them reformed and have the Association pay for it.
From afar, Xiaoxi observed that Fox Momomo, this little fox, seemed pretty excited, spinning around to admire her Maid outfit.
After all, ever since the Association let her out, she’d looked too much like child labor to get hired anywhere.
An Wanwan, on the other hand, seemed to have accepted her fate… but why did she keep sneaking glances at Ye Xinglan?
Actually, An Wanwan herself didn’t know why either.
That black-haired, cool beauty sitting in the corner—she’d never met her, but somehow… whenever she saw Ye Xinglan, she’d feel a strange, inexplicable sense of fear. So odd…
“Sigh…”
Xiaoxi sighed. All in all, these two weren’t exactly troublemakers.
Letting them work for Su Ying wasn’t a problem. Plus, Su Ying herself was a weirdo—she wouldn’t be prejudiced against them.
“Our usual work is actually pretty simple. It’s no different from a regular server. You just have to watch your manners and wording when serving customers, and memorize a few lines.”
Using Ye Xinglan as the practice target, Xiaoxi skillfully squeezed ketchup onto the omelet rice and made a heart with her hands.
“Fluttering heartbeat♡ Fluffy~ and soft~”
“Moe-moe omelet rice~ turn delicious~”
Xiaoxi’s tone and gestures were soft and cute.
By now, she was no longer shy about these actions; she had only the professionalism of a dedicated Maid…
Unfortunately, right after finishing her demonstration, she grabbed her chair and went after Miss L.
“I’ll count to three! Delete the video you just took! Did you hear me?”
In an instant, the cute Maid transformed into a Sichuan-Chongqing dragon.
