Just as she was about to leave, she was caught by the conversation of two female medical students nearby.
“I’ve been so busy lately, I really shouldn’t be watching the game. I haven’t even had time to translate and polish my paper. I checked AJE and a few other foreign editing websites for quotes—they all charge by the word in USD. A 2,000-word paper costs me ten thousand yuan just for translation and editing!”
“It’s rare for Ying Yun to show up—watching him for a bit won’t hurt. For editing, just use a domestic service! It’s way cheaper!”
“Cheaper, yes, but not professional. Most use AI translation and just touch it up a bit before turning it in. Not like AJE, which is expensive for a reason—their translators are native English speakers with research backgrounds, so the final draft is really high quality.”
“Try Medical Translation Solutions! That’s the company Zhong Tian co-founded! After working in a hospital for a few years, he quit and started his own business specializing in medical translation. Many of their translators have medical backgrounds, but their prices are only half those of foreign sites, and there’s no time difference, so it’s way more convenient…”
They spoke casually, but Yang Xueyi took it to heart.
Her previous work had been in medical translation.
Even though she didn’t have a medical background, after years of immersion, she’d picked up quite a bit of medical knowledge.
If she specialized in medical translation…
She could really give it a try!
Yang Xueyi immediately pulled out her phone to look up information.
Though Medical Translation Solutions was a new startup, its focus on a specialized field meant few competitors and strong market presence.
Their translation and editing services had an excellent reputation, and in just a few years, they’d made quite a name for themselves.
But the company was small and elite, with very strict hiring standards, mostly recruiting through referrals.
Yang Xueyi followed their official account, but after scrolling through all their posts, she didn’t see any public job openings.
However…
Yang Xueyi looked at Zhong Tian, who was currently sweating it out on the court defending Ying Yun.
Wasn’t the founder of Medical Translation Solutions standing right there?
It was practically a golden opportunity!
Yang Xueyi decided not to leave and squeezed back to Qiao Qianqian’s side.
Opportunities are for those who are prepared!
Yang Xueyi was ready!
“Zhong Tian! Go, go, go! You’re amazing! The red team will win for sure!”
Yang Xueyi shouted enthusiastically, cheering for Zhong Tian.
Her bold shout naturally drew the attention of the crowd, and Zhong Tian glanced at her in surprise from the court.
Ying Yun’s cold gaze swept over as well.
Yang Xueyi couldn’t care less about that annoying guy’s glare.
Seeing that she’d caught Zhong Tian’s attention, she flashed a bright smile, ignored Ying Yun, and waved energetically at Zhong Tian—
“Zhong Tian! You have to beat the blue team! Go! You’re the MVP of the whole game!”
Zhong Tian was a bit surprised, but smiled and waved back at Yang Xueyi: “Thanks, junior! If we win, dinner’s on me!”
Yang Xueyi was overjoyed—she hadn’t expected Zhong Tian to play along so well.
She really couldn’t understand why anyone would ignore a warm, gentle guy like Zhong Tian and go for a cold, icy fridge like Ying Yun.
Thinking this, she glanced at Ying Yun on the court.
At that moment, the icebox himself was staring at her with a cold, unfriendly expression.
Their eyes met, and Ying Yun was the first to look away with an indifferent face.
Soon, he threw himself back into the game, running hard.
With the intense exercise, Yang Xueyi could see sweat trickling down his forehead, sliding along the elegant curve of his neck and disappearing into his jersey.
He really was handsome.
Even if she didn’t want to admit it, the icebox did have top-tier looks.
With his packaging, it was no wonder so many people fell for him.
Maybe it was Yang Xueyi’s persistent cheering, but Zhong Tian actually managed to score twice in a row.
Unfortunately, just as she was about to celebrate, the tide turned—Ying Yun started making things difficult for her—
That annoying guy suddenly changed his relaxed playstyle, becoming aggressive and ruthless.
Not only did he score several times in a row, but he also tightly marked Zhong Tian, giving him no chance to shoot, practically suppressing him on purpose.
With his outstanding looks and deep-set features, when Ying Yun got serious, his gaze was focused and determined, his expression full of strength.
After sweating, his jersey clung to his body, showing off his enticing physique.
The sunlight seemed to favor him, every strand of hair gleaming gold as he ran, brimming with vitality.
Yang Xueyi could finally understand why so many people saw him as an idol.
This icebox really did have looks.
Because Ying Yun was so serious, the atmosphere heated up.
The crowd cheered non-stop for his brilliant plays, and the once evenly matched game turned into a one-sided “slaughter” by Ying Yun’s team.
Zhong Tian’s side had no chance to recover.
“Ying Yun’s gone wild!”
Qiao Qianqian was beyond excited.
“My finger’s cramping from pressing the shutter! Every frame could be a magazine cover! I don’t believe anyone can walk away from a Ying Yun basketball game without being moved!”
True enough.
Yang Xueyi couldn’t either—her heart was hardly calm.
But while Qiao Qianqian was excited, Yang Xueyi was furious.
Because of Ying Yun’s sudden aggression, the red team had no chance of a comeback.
Zhong Tian’s promised dinner with Yang Xueyi was off, and her chance to network and recommend herself vanished.
She just knew nothing good ever happened when that annoying guy was around!
But Yang Xueyi hadn’t expected Ying Yun’s bad luck to have a chain reaction.
While she was silently cursing him, disaster struck her first—
Someone on the court hit the ball off course during a scramble, and before Yang Xueyi could react, it struck her left shoulder.
The hit wasn’t hard, and the person immediately apologized and retrieved the ball.
But Yang Xueyi’s left arm had only just recovered from being dislocated, and now it ached unbearably.
In that moment of distraction, the basketball game ended.
Naturally, Ying Yun’s team won by a landslide.
When Yang Xueyi managed to recover from the pain and look up, she found that Zhong Tian’s team, probably embarrassed by their loss, had already dispersed.
No matter how she searched the crowd, she couldn’t find Zhong Tian.
Instead, Ying Yun was surrounded by admirers.
As usual, even with sweat-soaked hair, his cold face remained unchanged. Yang Xueyi watched him coolly reject the towels and sports drinks offered by the girls.
That poser—he never misses a chance to show off.
“Why doesn’t Ying Yun go into entertainment? Then I could be his fansite manager. I’d get rich just selling today’s photos!”
Yang Xueyi was about to mock Ying Yun, but before she could speak, the dispersing crowd jostled her and Qiao Qianqian, and someone bumped into Yang Xueyi’s left shoulder.
Almost instantly, pain shot through her shoulder.
Her poor left shoulder was injured again, the familiar feeling returning.
Yang Xueyi nearly blacked out.
She’d dislocated it again!
Yang Xueyi gritted her teeth, thinking only one thing—find Ying Yun!
But now, that annoying guy was nowhere to be found.
Luckily, thanks to his notorious face, Yang Xueyi managed to ask her way along, clutching her shoulder, and finally caught up to Ying Yun on the way to the indoor gymnasium.
“Ying Yun! Ying Yun!”
Yang Xueyi was in so much pain her voice trembled, “I dislocated my arm again!”
Ying Yun was alone, still in his jersey, clearly heading to the changing room to get dressed.
Hearing her, he stopped with a grim face.
“I got hit by the ball, and then someone bumped into me, and now it’s dislocated again.”
“What’s that got to do with me?”
Ying Yun’s voice was cold.
“This is a school, not a hospital. I’m not on duty today—I’m not Dr. Ying at your beck and call.”
“Then just do me a favor, can’t you?”
“Why should I do you a favor?”
Ying Yun sneered, “Weren’t you full of energy waving your arms to cheer for Zhong Tian? Why not get him to treat you?”
Yang Xueyi would have, but she couldn’t find him!
She was so out of it from the pain that she’d impulsively sought out Ying Yun.
Now that she’d calmed down, she realized how foolish that was—besides being mocked, what else could she expect from him?
She bit her lip, enduring the pain, and turned to find Qiao Qianqian so she could go to the nearest hospital for urgent care.
But just as she turned, Ying Yun grabbed her right hand, nearly making her lose her balance.
“Sit over there.”
Ying Yun, too lazy to say more, nodded toward a stone bench and looked at Yang Xueyi.
Yang Xueyi glared back, “Aren’t you not Dr. Ying today? So who’s going to reset my shoulder?”
“Concerned citizen Ying Yun,” he replied coldly.
“But my patience as a concerned citizen only lasts five seconds.”
Knowing when to yield, Yang Xueyi sat down on the stone bench before he could start counting down.
Soon, Ying Yun stood beside her, squeezing her shoulder.
“It’s only a partial dislocation. No big deal.”
Before Yang Xueyi could say anything, Ying Yun grabbed her left upper arm with one hand and rotated her elbow backward.
“Lean your shoulder against me.”
The bench was low, and Ying Yun was tall, so he had to half-kneel behind her for this position.
His other arm wrapped around Yang Xueyi from behind, holding her in place at her chest—almost as if he was hugging her.
Having just exercised, his body was warmer than usual. Yang Xueyi could smell his cologne, a cool men’s scent—not unpleasant, actually rather nice.
Still, Yang Xueyi felt uncomfortable, especially with such an ambiguous posture, and his arm pressing firmly against her chest.
She knew it was just the reset position, but because it was Ying Yun, it felt complicated and awkward.
His arm was hot and hard with muscle, tightening as he applied force.
His post-workout body radiated heat, making even Yang Xueyi feel a bit flushed.
Luckily, in the next second, Ying Yun lifted her dislocated arm and rotated it inward.
With a crisp “click,” Yang Xueyi heard her joint pop back into place.
But as soon as it was done, Ying Yun pulled away even faster than Yang Xueyi could react.
She lost her balance and almost fell.
When she turned to thank him, she saw that Ying Yun’s expression was extremely sour, as if he deeply regretted helping her, determined to avoid any further contact.
The way he looked at her was like she was a virus.
“Yang Xueyi, can you just stop appearing in front of me?”
Yang Xueyi had no idea what she’d done to anger him this time, but his voice was practically grinding out, “I only helped you today for Aunt Yang’s sake.”
“Stop using cheap tricks like cheering for Zhong Tian to get at me. You think you can provoke me? I don’t care at all.”
Ying Yun clearly didn’t want to say more, but just as he turned to leave, he called out to Yang Xueyi again.
“Give me your books.”
Robbery in broad daylight!
Was he afraid she’d borrow them herself?
Yang Xueyi wished she could hug her books with both arms.
“I just borrowed those! They’re my study materials! What do you want?”
“What do I want? Why don’t you ask yourself what you’re doing? With your arm like that, don’t carry heavy things. I’ll take these books for you. When your arm’s better, go pick them up from your mom’s room. I don’t want to see you in orthopaedics again.”
His words, as always, were infuriating: “And I don’t want Aunt Yang thinking I didn’t fix your dislocation properly last time, making me look like a quack.”
“From now on, stay away from crowded places.”
His voice and expression were equally cold.
“If you develop a habit of dislocating your shoulder, go get an X-ray at the hospital, but don’t register under my name.”
With that, Ying Yun took her books and left without another word, his expression dark.
For some reason, he walked faster than usual, all his usual elegance and poise gone, his steps hurried and even a bit agitated.
Maybe the basketball game had tired him out so much that even his gait looked strangely off.
Yang Xueyi stared at his back for a moment before realizing what he meant.
He thought everything she did today was to get his attention?
To provoke him on purpose?
Yang Xueyi nearly laughed in exasperation.
Cheering for Zhong Tian was to annoy him?
She was just trying to get a job!
Did he really think he was the center of the universe, that everyone revolved around him?
He was way too self-absorbed!
He’s the one who really needs his head examined!
