Goli had no idea how long she’d been out, while Genasa, who had been inside the Crystal Palace doing who knows what, spent the time reading that book.
Finally, he finished reading the entire thick tome of illustrations.
He set the book down and let out a long sigh of relief.
“Ah, thank goodness, I’m finally done! I can finally start learning potion-making, hehehe~”
Thinking of this, an evil grin appeared on Genasa’s dragon face.
Potions were truly magical things, with an extremely high ceiling and a very low floor, and the sheer variety could make your head spin.
The simplest ones could be brewed by ordinary people with a bit of training, enough to cure minor aches and pains; the most advanced could instantly max out your level with just one sip.
Like that aphrodisiac from before—there were plenty more potions just as improper yet popular.
“I can finally brew my own now, whatever I want, however I want, hehehe~ But where did that old crone go?”
It was only then that he realized—he looked left, looked right, but Goli was nowhere to be seen.
“Still not back? What on earth did she go out for, did I scare her off with something I said? No way…”
Genasa, bored out of his mind, waited and waited.
Just as he was getting impatient, the main door rumbled open a crack.
Startled, Genasa scrambled to his feet and stared at the entrance in confusion.
There, in human form, Goli crept in like a thief, sneaking glances over her shoulder as if on guard against something. Only when she was sure it was safe did she close the door.
She seemed to be holding something in her arms.
“Master, what are you up to.”(프_â…¡)
After voicing his confusion, Goli turned to look at him, the corners of her mouth quirking up to reveal eight big, white teeth, and she gingerly took the thing out from her arms.
“Got you a pet, hehehe~”
It was an egg, about the size of a head, pure white all over, with faint scale-like patterns on the surface.
“A white dragon’s egg? So you went egg-snatching, and as a pet, at that? What’s the point of that?”
Seeing Genasa’s uninterested and skeptical expression, Goli became a little annoyed and pointed at the egg.
“It’s for you to play with, don’t worry, no psychological burden, a white dragon before adulthood has the same intelligence as a common magic beast, so you can train it however you like.”(令(프u프会)
“;) What do you take me for? I’m not bored enough to train some silly bird, besides, didn’t that mother dragon say not to keep them? And you just snatched it? Hurry up and take it back!”
No sooner had Genasa finished than Goli gave him a hard knock on the head, sounding rather dissatisfied.
“Hey, I went out of my way to catch you a pet, and not only do you not appreciate it, you criticize me instead.”
No sooner had she spoken, she went full drama, covering her mouth and sobbing in sorrow.
“I’m so unlucky, clearly just thinking for my beloved disciple! Afraid you’d be lonely as a dragon when I’m not around, that’s all, it’s not because I have a habit of snatching eggs, but you…!”
“Hey, wait, wait! If it’s your egg-stealing addiction acting up, don’t try to pin it on me with all that high-sounding talk! I’m not old enough to carry that kind of blame!”
Having been exposed so mercilessly, Goli could only pout in defeat.
“Enough talk, you took it already, so keep it for now. If you really don’t want it, just toss it.”
“Such irresponsibility…”
“Heh, it’s not even certain if it’ll live long enough for you to toss it. The white dragons I’ve caught before mostly died from their own stupidity, didn’t I tell you that before?”
Genasa thought about it and realized there really was such a thing.
White dragons either ran around and got themselves killed by dangerous things, or they just couldn’t tell friend from foe, couldn’t be raised, and had to be thrown away.
Other dragon breeds were similar, but usually died from their own mischief, whereas white dragons basically died from being too dumb.
Then, Goli handed him the egg with a smile.
“So, let me see what tricks you have for taming it. You’re idle anyway, it’s a decent way to pass the time.”
“Tch… All right, whatever, if it doesn’t work out, I’ll deal with it then.”
Clicking his tongue, Genasa was forced to accept the egg.
“Good, it’s settled then. Ah, I’m so tired, I haven’t slept in years, I need to get some rest.”
Goli stretched and headed inside, but Genasa quickly stopped her.
“Wait, if you sleep you’ll be out for ages again! You promised to teach me potion-making, teach me first and then go!”
“Oh, did you finish the book?”
Goli turned around with some reluctance, her face blank.
Genasa dragged over the encyclopedia of ingredients, the heavy ancient book stirring up a gust of wind as it hit the floor.
“I finished it.”
“Good.”
Goli responded, picked up the book, then pulled out another notebook and tossed it to Genasa.
“These are all my improved first-tier potion recipes. Learn to brew them yourself. All the ingredients are in my storeroom, help yourself, just don’t go too deep. All right, I’m going to sleep now~”
With that, she left again, leaving Genasa staring, eyes wide.
“Hey, shouldn’t you stay by my side and teach me hands-on? What if something explodes?”
Goli just waved without turning back.
“If you need hands-on guidance for basic potions, it just means you have no talent. When you get to advanced potions, I’ll teach you hands-on.”
“What a shameless excuse.”â–³-
He grumbled, and after watching Goli disappear into a corner of the Crystal Palace, Genasa glanced at the first-tier potion recipe book.
Then he looked over at the snowy white dragon egg on the floor, shaking his head and sighing helplessly.
“What is all this… a pet, really?”
With one claw cradling the egg, he walked toward an empty hatching room.
He activated the internal magic circle, adjusted it to an ice barrier, and placed the dragon egg in the center of the platform.
Just to be safe, he tossed a few chunks of meat nearby as emergency food; the ice barrier would keep them frozen, so no worries about them spoiling.
“Whatever, I won’t bother with it. Time to make potions.”
After Genasa left, the white dragon egg gave a tiny shake, but quickly settled down again.
Back in the main hall, Genasa walked toward the pile of odds and ends.
He looked left and right, stopping at a rather conspicuous spot. Directly in front of him was a small pinewood box.
“I remember she said this was the storeroom. She must have given me access already.”
Wondering how it worked, Genasa stepped forward and knocked. The box creaked open and sucked him inside.
The world spun, but it wasn’t too uncomfortable.
When he steadied himself, his vision opened up wide.
A massive room lay before him, with rows and rows of shelves stretching beyond sight.
The ceiling was studded with magical light stones, making the place as bright as day.
“Wow, this is huge. As expected of a dragon who once was a Sage.”
Genasa muttered as he roamed, his curious eyes darting everywhere.
The shelves were neatly organized, with drawers labeled with the names of ingredients and their quantities, all in perfect order.
Looking at the endless variety, Genasa paused in thought, then broke into a ridiculous grin and started searching in earnest.
With the clear labels, he quickly gathered all the ingredients he needed.
He grabbed a small alchemy pot from a nearby shelf.
“I didn’t expect the materials to be so complete. I won’t be polite, then, hehehe~”
Clamping the pot in his mouth, filled with the ingredients he’d carefully selected, the satisfied Genasa left the storeroom, ready to start his very first potion-brewing session as a dragon.
