Eleanor had left, but Liami was still immersed in that recent smile and those words.
โWhat agreement do I have with him?โ What did those words mean? What kind of agreement was she talking about? A lifelong promise to be together?
Although Liami didn’t know the contents of the agreement, Eleanor’s intention was already quite obvious. Most likely, it was just as she thoughtโsome kind of lifelong vow.
After a while, Liami lay back down on the bed. Staring at the grayish-white ceiling, Liami zoned out meaninglessly.
She didnโt know what was wrong with herself. Clearly, when Eleanor had asked whether she liked Colin or not, she could answer firmly, โI donโt like him,โ but when Eleanor said, โColin likes me,โ she reacted so strongly.
After that, she even saw Eleanorโs smile as mockery. Why would she think that? Clearly, Eleanor couldn’t possibly be mocking herโฆ could she?
Liami couldnโt figure out her own thoughts anymore. Now, she was having a hard time telling what was fantasy and what was real.
Could it be that she really did like Colin?
Faced with this question, Liami could no longer answer with the same resoluteness she showed Eleanor earlier. On the contrary, no matter what, she couldn’t bring herself to say, โI donโt like him.โ
Realizing this, Liami began to panic a little. She pulled the blanket over her head, trying to force herself to clear her mind.
Unfortunately, all that did was make her feel stifled; it was no help at all.
Liami poked her head out from the blanket again, breathing in the fresh air, and finally decided to give up thinking altogether.
Could she like Colin? Maybe it was possible. But so what? Even if she did like Colin, Colin didnโt like her, did he? Colin liked Eleanor, and the two of them were mutually in loveโthere was no space for her to intrude.
In that case, she might as well abandon such thoughts. Rather than agonize over this, it would be easier to let it go. If she truly did like Colin, then she should just find a way to end that feeling. After all, that would make everyone happy, wouldnโt it?
Liami made up her mind: since she couldnโt figure out her true feelings, she simply wouldnโt try. Just carrying on as she was wouldnโt be so bad; after all, there was no need for her to figure it out.
With that in mind, Liami decided not to let her thoughts run wild anymore. She turned off the light and went to sleep, hoping that dreams might scatter her muddled feelings.
But to her regret, she slept through the entire night without dreaming.
In the early morning, Liami woke up in bed. After spending a little time fully waking from her half-asleep state, the events of last night quickly returned to her mind.
Remembering those scattered, chaotic thoughts, Liami furrowed her brows. She quickly shook her head to dispel them.
โI usually dream every night, but last night there was nothing at all. I really wish Iโd had a deep dream to help me forget these thoughts. Seriously, is even my own dream against me?โ
With a quick complaint, Liami climbed out of bed and got ready to wash up, just as she always did.
A few hours later, Liami sat dazed on the steps in the mansionโs backyard.
She had finished breakfast early, only to find that there was nothing for her to do, so she ended up idling here.
She actually had some plansโfor example, to continue observing Colinโs behavior and thoughts. But because of what happened last night, Liami had to drop that idea.
So as not to go against Eleanorโs words, Liami decided not to interact with Colin at all during her break. Likewise, she was now somewhat avoiding Eleanor too, though even she herself couldnโt explain why.
So, just like yesterday, Colin and Eleanor had gone out somewhere, though this time, Liami had no intention of following them.
If that were all, it would be fineโafter all, there was still Lavinia. She could keep playing โGreat Adventurerโ or some other game with Lavinia.
But in the end, Lavinia said she wanted to go out for a bit and wander around Kit City. Since sheโd previously gone back to the Elven Forest, she hadnโt gotten to properly tour the city, so she planned to spend the day exploring. It was all just to pass the time; Lavinia didnโt insist on playing games with Liami right now.
Liami could understand Laviniaโs choice. Understanding was one thing, but the reality was that everyone else had their own things to do, and only she was left with nothing, idling aimlessly.
โHonestly, what sights are there to see in Kit City? I practically toured every inch of the place last month and didnโt find anything interesting. Yet she still wants to go look aroundโwhatโs the point?โ
Liami grumbled about Lavinia, then slipped right back into her state of aimlessness.
After dawdling for a while longer, Liami realized she really couldnโt go on like this. So, she stood upโฆ and then sat right back down.
Gazing at the backyard before her, Liami sighed softly.
She knew she shouldnโt keep dawdling here and should go do something else, even if just to pass the time.
But for some reason, she had absolutely no urge to move. She just wanted to sit there in a daze until her break was over.
Maybe the events of last night were still affecting her. Every time she snapped out of her daze, she couldnโt help but recall Eleanorโs smile and those words.
And whenever she thought of them, she felt utterly drained, falling right back into that endless loop.
So, the next time Liami snapped out of her daze, she noticed something different from usual. She saw someone standing on the lawn ahead.
Looking closely, she saw it was a beautiful young woman with silvery hair, wearing a maid outfit, looking to be just over twenty years old. She was crouched among the flowers on the lawn, apparently picking a few.
Liami recognized her at a glance. That was Lant, the mansionโs maid, who had been hired by Colin thanks to Liamiโs recommendation.
What was she doing over there? Picking flowers? Who was she planning to give them to?
Liami thought over who Lant might give flowers to: It wouldnโt be Lavinia or Syphine; she wasnโt close with them. Eleanor? Theyโd talked a few times, but not enough for flower-giving, right? Thenโฆ Colin? No way, as charming as Colin was, he couldnโt have done nothing and still have Lant willingly give him flowers, right?
After thinking it over, the only candidates Liami could come up with were Lola and Lane. Surely she wouldnโt be giving them to me, right?
At that thought, Liami couldnโt help but laugh. While she had introduced Lant as the mansionโs maid, giving her a job and a place to stay, their relationship wasnโt so close that the other girl would give her flowers.
So, the only possibilities were her fellow maid Lola, or Lane, the apprentice butler and Lantโs old acquaintance. Between those two, which one was Lant picking flowers for?
Watching Lant crouch intently among the flowers, Liamiโs heart gradually arrived at a definite guess. She more or less knew who Lant wanted to give those flowers to.
