“Good! Now that’s the attitude I wanted to see. I’ve been waiting for you to say that!”
Miss L slapped her thigh and turned off the recorder. The tense, hostile atmosphere from before vanished instantly.
“If those Old Things heard you say that, they’d probably be pulling their hair out right now. Oh, and I have to apologize to you, A Xing—I’ve already told the Council that you are the Eternal Star, before telling you first. That was the only way I could think of to save Ye Xinglan.”
Miss L’s sudden change of expression left Xiaoxi a bit dazed, but Miss L just gave a gentle laugh and pushed up her glasses.
“What kind of look is that? What, did you really think I’d agree with the Council’s plan? But your reasoning would’ve never worked anyway. What’s the point of arguing right and wrong with the Council? You have to negotiate benefits with them.”
“But you really are hopelessly devoted, A Xing.” Miss L nudged Xiaoxi with her elbow, teasing. “So it’s no big deal to fight the whole Association for Xinglan, huh? I’m touched.”
Xiaoxi gave a couple of awkward coughs and turned away, a little embarrassed.
“You know, every time I think about Ye Xinglan being the Blood Moon Witch now, I can’t help but want to laugh. Seriously, A Xing, don’t you have any thoughts about that?”
Xiaoxi honestly hadn’t had the time—she’d spent all afternoon worrying about Ye Xinglan’s safety, and it was only now, with Miss L’s question, that the full impact hit her.
To say Xiaoxi had no negative feelings toward the Blood Moon Witch before would be impossible. After all, they had been mortal enemies, each intent on killing the other.
She’d never gone easy on Ye Xinglan in their battles, and now karma had come back around; Ye Xinglan hadn’t exactly gone easy on her in bed either.
Xiaoxi could only be thankful she hadn’t blurted out her Eternal Star identity to Ye Xinglan in a moment of weakness before. No wonder the Rich Girl had hated her so deeply!
She had said more than once, during intimate moments with Ye Xinglan, that she would drag the Blood Moon Witch back to the Hidden Bone Hall.
And now, thinking about how the little girlfriend she cuddled with every night was, just a few years ago, the sworn enemy who would fight her to the death at the drop of a hat……
How did she end up in such a one-in-a-million scenario?
Who could have guessed that Eternal Star and the Blood Moon Witch would end up dating!
Thinking about all this, Xiaoxi let out a long sigh and covered her face, but she still couldn’t hide the blush spreading all the way to her ears.
Right now, she wished she could just disappear into a crack in the floor!
Seeing how embarrassed Xiaoxi was, Miss L didn’t tease her anymore.
She just quietly took a photo with her phone, then stood up and headed for the door.
“Alright, you don’t need to worry about this anymore. Just go home and wait for news. I’m off to negotiate with those Old Things in the Council.”
“Don’t forget, I’m the Agent for our team! You and Xingge take care of the fighting, I’ll handle cleaning up all these troublesome messes for you. That’s always been our division of labor, hasn’t it?”
At that moment, the business suit Miss L wore seemed more like a battle outfit.
She looked every bit the Magic Girl, ready to face off against monsters, with the workplace as her battlefield!
“And about hiding Ye Xinglan’s identity… Sorry, A Xing.” Miss L paused in her steps.
“But there’s nothing to justify. Back then, as your Old Friend, I’d gladly fight to let Ye Xinglan keep basking in the sunlight.”
“But at the time, as the Minister of the Magic Girl Squad in Summersea City, I couldn’t gamble with the lives of everyone in the city, you understand?”
Xiaoxi gave a slight nod. “Thank you for helping me, Lo.”
She didn’t really know how Miss L planned to negotiate with the Council, but she trusted Miss L’s abilities in this area.
If she was willing to step up and handle it, she must be confident in succeeding.
She’d thought that something this big would take at least a few days to settle.
But to Xiaoxi’s surprise, Miss L messaged her the very next day saying it was all taken care of.
Inside the office, clearly having barely slept, Miss L waved two fingers in front of Xiaoxi, dark circles under her eyes.
“It’s done. The Council agreed to release Ye Xinglan, but there are two small conditions.”
“First, to prevent Ye Xinglan from losing control, the Council will install a small Device near her heart. The Council holds the control. If they ever think Ye Xinglan’s a problem, then… boom.”
Miss L made an explosive gesture with her hands.
“Second, you must join the Association as Ye Xinglan’s Guardian, but you won’t be assigned to any Divisional Branch. You’ll report directly to the Council.”
“That’s… it? The Council’s letting her go that easily? How did you even manage to convince them?”
Xiaoxi stared in disbelief. Things were going too smoothly; it made her wonder if there was some trap, so she needed Miss L to tell her everything in detail.
“Heh, I can only take about thirty percent of the credit for this. The other seventy percent is just dumb luck for you two, A Xing.”
Between the return of the Divine Summoning Society and Black Rose stealing important things from the Hidden Bone Hall, all these surprises made the Council realize just how dire things had become.
In that situation, the Blood Moon Witch’s combat strength was far more valuable than Ye Xinglan as just an experiment.
And even more importantly, Miss L revealed Xiaoxi’s Eternal Star identity and her romantic involvement with Ye Xinglan to the Council.
That was basically telling them it was a two-for-one deal.
Of course the Association wanted to recruit Eternal Star. But after all these years, Xiaoxi’s attitude was clear.
Now, with this rare chance to use Ye Xinglan as a way to “tie down” Xiaoxi, the Council couldn’t let it slip by.
And Xiaoxi had already made her position clear—they didn’t want Eternal Star as an enemy either.
So Miss L didn’t hesitate to let slip Xiaoxi’s identity ahead of time. That bargaining chip was absolutely necessary.
And as for the Blood Moon Witch, there was no one more suitable as a supervisor than Xiaoxi.
What happened yesterday already proved that Ye Xinglan was absolutely safe under Xiaoxi’s watch.
Even if she lost control, Xiaoxi could nip it in the bud.
Not to mention, Miss L also listed plenty of examples to show how well the little couple got along.
So the whole thing was settled happily. As for whether Ye Xinglan was actually a danger, or if she really wanted to be a good person, that was just an extra bargaining chip.
“So that’s it. Don’t bother telling the Council how Ye Xinglan’s a good person. You need to tell them what they gain by letting her go.”
“But don’t think these terms are a walk in the park, A Xing… This means both you and the Blood Moon Witch will be in the Council’s hands. Are you okay with that?”
“You mean…” Xiaoxi rubbed her nose, “The bigwigs on the Council all know about me and Xinglan dating now?”
Miss L: “…”
Miss L rolled her eyes dramatically. Yeah, why even bother asking? Like Xiaoxi wouldn’t go this far for Ye Xinglan.
“Alright, I’ve finished the job for you. No more showing off your lovey-dovey stuff in front of me. Go get your little girlfriend and take her home!”
“W-wait, now? Can’t you give me a minute? I’m not ready yet…”
Xiaoxi jumped in shock, totally caught off guard.
She was worried about Ye Xinglan, sure, but she’d thought the Association would at least take a little time to process everything.
Now, being told to meet Ye Xinglan right away, she… she… she really wasn’t prepared!
Just then, Xiaoxi caught the amused look in Miss L’s eyes and finally realized Miss L had set her up!
Dammit, she just wanted to see them reunite right here in her office so she could enjoy the drama!
But it was too late to protest. The office door swung open, and Ye Xinglan, escorted by two Magic Girls Xiaoxi had never seen before, entered the room.
“Xiaoxi…”
Ye Xinglan’s eyes were a little red. Even though she’d been locked up and didn’t know what was going on, as soon as she saw Xiaoxi, she couldn’t help but go over and try to hug her.
Seeing Ye Xinglan, perfectly safe, standing before her, Xiaoxi let out a heavy sigh of relief. As long as Ye Xinglan was unharmed, it was enough.
She quickly tried to adjust her mindset. Ye Xinglan is the Blood Moon Witch. Ye Xinglan is the Blood Moon Witch… Okay, she’s accepted it now. No problem!
Xiaoxi kept repeating it in her head, hoping to calm herself down. The Blood Moon Witch? It’s just the Blood Moon Witch…
So when Ye Xinglan came in for a hug, Xiaoxi instinctively switched to battle mode and blocked Ye Xinglan’s arm with a palm strike.
The whole scene in the office turned awkward in an instant.
Xiaoxi: “…”
No! She really didn’t do it on purpose! It’s just that every time she met the Blood Moon Witch, it was always a fight to the finish. Her mind couldn’t switch tracks that fast.
Not thinking about it was fine, but the moment she realized the person in front of her was the Blood Moon Witch, her reflexes just took over!
