Strange.
“Brother, something’s off about you.”
Lin · Holmes · Wan stood at the kitchen doorway, hands on her hips, watching Lin Luan busy at the stove.
“What? What’s off?” Lin Luan kept tossing the pan, pretending nothing was wrong as he answered Lin Wan.
“I’ve never seen you wear that shirt before.” Lin Wan looked him up and down, suspicion written all over her face.
The shirt was obviously a size too small on Lin Luan. Add to that the panicked look on her brother’s face when he came home today, and everything just seemed—
“Hey, it’s just clothes, as long as I have something to wear. I found it in the closet ages ago. Of course, you wouldn’t know I had this shirt.”
Lin Luan dumped the fried rice from the pan into a bowl. He’d gotten home late today; fried rice didn’t take much time, so to eat dinner earlier, he just made that.
“Oh?” Lin Wan quietly crept up to Lin Luan’s side. “Is that so…”
“Yeah! Or do you think your brother went to someone else’s house and stole their clothes to wear?”
Suddenly, Lin Luan felt something cold slip into his shirt, sending a shudder through his whole body.
Lin Wan slid her hand, cold as ice, right into the collar at the back of Lin Luan’s neck.
In an instant, Lin Luan felt as if his back had been smashed by a ten-thousand-year-old glacier.
Crap! Ice!
“Damn!” Lin Luan jumped in shock. “Lin Wan, what are you doing?!”
He put down the spatula, instinctively covering the back of his neck, unable to figure out why Lin Wan would suddenly play a prank on him.
“Hehe…” Lin Wan shook something in her hand and giggled, “Brother, you’ve been naughty~”
Lin Luan’s whole body broke out in goosebumps from the cold. He squinted at the thing in Lin Wan’s hand.
It was a strand of hair—very long, at least half a meter.
Lin Luan froze.
It was obvious whose hair that was.
Shen Yu’s.
“And you were saying you ‘found it in the closet ages ago’. Liar!”
Lin Wan stepped closer, tiptoed, and waved the hair in front of Lin Luan’s eyes. “This—long a hair, there’s no way it’s yours, right? And the color, the texture… it’s Shen Yu-jie’s, isn’t it?”
“You can tell whose it is just by looking at the hair?” Lin Luan retorted.
“Of course!” Lin Wan folded her arms. “I’m a woman who can tell a girl by her scent!”
“Our school doesn’t allow hair this long, and I always have mine in a ponytail, so there’s no way this hair is mine. And the only girl who gets this close to you, hmph, must be Shen Yu-jie!”
Mimicking an adult’s tone, Lin Wan circled Lin Luan, pride evident with every step.
That’s right! She really was none other than Lady [Lin · Holmes · Wan]!
“It’s not—” Lin Luan reflexively tried to object.
“Brother, stop trying to squirm out of it! I just saw Shen Yu-jie wear a hoodie just like this last week. And the cut of these jeans, they’re clearly for girls! Add in this hair—what else can you say?”
“Hehe, the evidence is conclusive, right?” Lin Wan stopped in front of him, eyes sparkling. “Brother! Are you dating Shen Yu-jie? Why are you hiding it from me!”
“I’m not…” Lin Luan replied weakly, his confidence all but gone.
“Not…? Then what, this hair belongs to some other girl?” Lin Wan stroked her chin. “Or… did you get yourself a sugar mommy I don’t know about?!”
Lin Lin Luan heart skipped a beat.
“Alright, alright, I’m just kidding.” Lin Wan laughed. “Honestly… if it’s Shen Yu-jie, I totally support it! She’s so nice, gentle, treats me great—Brother, you should’ve wised up ages ago!”
She patted Lin Luan on the arm, a look that said, “I understand you.”
Lin Luan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
What exactly do you think you understand?!
“Enough nonsense, if I ever really start dating Shen Yu-jie, I’ll definitely tell you.”
Lin Luan picked up the pan again, dumping the rest of the fried rice into a bowl and putting it on the table.
“Now, hurry up and finish dinner, then go do your homework!”
“So you mean, you’re still in the ambiguous stage now?” Lin Wan picked up her chopsticks. “Sheesh, if you don’t want to say it, fine! But stop nagging me about homework. Have I ever skipped homework?”
“Sigh, Chinese education.”
“Chinese education, my foot!” Lin Luan gave Lin Wan a chop to the head.
***
Eleven o’clock at night.
“Mmm—mm!”
Lin Wan finally closed her Wǔsān, letting out a long sigh. She stretched out her arms in front of her like a lazy kitten, giving a big stretch.
Her waist made a soft popping sound, and with the movement, the day’s fatigue faded a bit.
She rubbed her slightly sore eyes and looked toward the living room.
From the direction of the bathroom came the gentle sound of water. Dim light shone through the frosted glass door, along with the blurred shadow of someone inside.
Her brother was still soaking in the bath. Lately, his baths seemed to be taking longer… Was he being flirty with Shen Yu-jie?
Lin Wan stood up and tiptoed to the bathroom door, calling through it:
“Brother—I’m done with my homework! I’m going to bed first!”
“Blub-blub-blub……”
Lin Luan mumbled a reply.
“Got it! And stop playing on your phone in the bath! Your skin’s going to wrinkle!” Lin Wan warned.
“Blub-blub-blub……”
Lin Luan still lazed in the water, too lazy to sit up and answer, just letting out a couple of bubbles to show he’d heard.
Lin Wan understood what he meant and didn’t say more, slowly returning to her own room.
The room wasn’t big, but Lin Luan kept it tidy and clean.
It wasn’t that Lin Wan was lazy—it’s just that with school, she could only trouble her brother to help tidy up.
Lin Wan expertly made her bed, turned off the room’s main light, leaving only a soft, warm yellow nightlight at the head of the bed.
She was a bit afraid of the dark; at night she always needed a nightlight to fall asleep.
Lin Wan snuggled into the covers—the blanket had just been hung out by Lin Luan today, so it smelled of sunshine and was wonderfully warm.
Drowsiness swept over her, but for some reason, Lin Wan thought of what happened tonight.
Her brother really was dense… Such an obviously too-small shirt, wearing Shen Yu-jie’s clothes—how could she not notice?
Those were clearly Shen Yu-jie’s clothes! How could her big brother possibly not look out of place wearing them…
Shen Yu-jie’s… clothes?
!
Suddenly, Lin Wan remembered something.
She’d been so excited tonight about finding out about her brother and Shen Yu-jie that she seemed to have forgotten one thing.
Why was her brother wearing Shen Yu-jie’s clothes?!
Didn’t that mean… he’d taken off his own clothes at Shen Yu-jie’s house?
Lin Wan was instantly wide awake.
A man and a woman alone together, and her brother even took his clothes off…
Could it be?!
***
Meanwhile, at Shen Yu’s house.
Right now, Shen Yu was laying Lin Luan’s maid outfit out on her bed.
She examined the maid outfit closely.
Lin Luan really didn’t know how to buy clothes—this maid outfit was obviously a size too small for him.
Well, he always wore what Lin Wan bought, and it’s not like he could let his sister buy something like this for him. Buying it himself, of course he’d make a mistake.
Having such an odd hobby wasn’t exactly something you could make public.
Hmm… She never expected Lin Luan to have this kind of side…
How come she never noticed when they were little… Back then, Lin Luan had been so upright, a little thing, who even promised to marry her…
The classic childhood-friends marriage promise, Shen Yu and the others had all made one, but Lin Luan probably forgot ages ago.
Looking at the maid outfit, Shen Yu’s face inexplicably flushed red again.
That scene during the day—Lin Luan, dressed as a maid, tumbling at the top of the stairs—kept replaying in her mind.
She wanted to see it again… no, touch it again… no, even more than that…
Shen Yu unconsciously sank into her fantasies.
But after seeing the real maid Lin Luan, just imagining it wasn’t enough anymore.
She grabbed a body pillow and slipped the maid outfit onto it.
Fortunately, the pillow was just the right height for the outfit.
Shen Yu stuffed the pillow under the covers and climbed in herself, hugging it tightly, unconsciously nuzzling against it.
“Tonight… it’s up to you to keep me company.”
“Lin · Lu ·…”
