However, while these sorts of things were perfectly clear in the hearts of these elders—each at least several hundred years old—when it came to actually opening their mouths and saying it aloud, especially in front of the pure, innocent, just-of-age new students from other academies…
No one could bring themselves to speak.
This group of bigwigs, each capable of exchanging dozens of blows with their opponents in the span of a single second, now fell into a strange, prolonged silence for several seconds.
In the end, Fu Ling turned her head to look at Li Tianying.
Stare.
Kids don’t get it, but you, the teacher, don’t understand either?!
Of course Li Tianying understood; she even knew that Li Yunxian understood as well.
That last question Li Yunxian had asked—was it really about whether she could enter or not? She was clearly asking for compensation.
At a time like this, for her as a teacher to take the initiative and ask Wenwu for something would look bad.
She had to wait for Wenwu to take the initiative and come to her, and then she’d speak.
After receiving Fu Ling’s meaningful look, Li Tianying finally spoke, her voice gentle: “Yunxian, at the moment, the Wenwu Tower is in activation mode—it’s not suitable for others to enter.”
Li Tianying’s wording was very precise. She only said “not suitable,” not “impossible.”
Fu Ling could throw Li Yunxian out; naturally, she could also let Li Yunxian back in.
In fact, Li Tianying was not wrong.
It really was because they worried about Li Yunxian’s ability to stir up trouble that it wasn’t suitable to let her enter.
But both before and after her statement, she was only describing the actual situation—there was no direct connection.
Li Yunxian pursed her lips, perfectly in sync with Li Tianying: “I was planning to finish my sword practice, then start cultivating. By the time I came out, at the very least I’d have reached the peak of the Qi Refining stage.”
The teachers of Wenwu fell silent.
They could hear it too; hidden in the words of this teacher and student pair was a request for compensation.
They were asking for resources that would allow Li Yunxian to directly reach the peak of the Qi Refining stage.
But no one could say this request was unreasonable.
After all, over this past month or so, Li Yunxian had become rather famous at the Wenwu Academy.
Both among the students and the faculty.
Even those who didn’t know about the situation with the Heavenly Ladder had at least heard that a Tiantong student had held a three-hundred-person lecture at their academy, with every seat filled.
Since word was out, and human nature is what it is, everyone had heard a bit about Li Yunxian’s basic situation.
For instance, during last year’s Green Vine Ranking, Li Yunxian had only been at the second level of Qi Refining.
She had advanced five stages in less than a year.
Now, with a little over a day left in the Wenwu Tower—and, calculated by the flow of time, that meant six months—Li Yunxian really could reach the peak of the Qi Refining stage.
In short.
The resources needed for someone at Qi Refining to reach the peak were nothing much to an academy.
To put it plainly, Wenwu Academy had just encountered a master and disciple pair coming to ask for a “lion’s share”!
No one tried to bargain; all eyes turned to Fu Ling.
But Fu Ling did not immediately agree.
She watched Li Yunxian for quite a while, then suddenly sent a silent sound transmission to Li Tianying, asking quietly.
“Did the split in Tiantong’s Xuanwen Secret Realm—the one that needs major repairs—have anything to do with Li Yunxian?”
That was a sharp question.
Li Tianying paused for quite a while, considering how to answer.
But Fu Ling didn’t need Li Tianying’s reply.
Just by her reaction, Fu Ling already had a good idea.
Fu Ling smiled kindly at Li Yunxian and handed her a palm-sized scroll.
“It’s a shame you couldn’t reach the peak, but rushing through the Qi Refining stage isn’t actually a good thing for your cultivation.”
“As they say, ‘Misfortune may be the soil in which fortune grows; fortune may be the place where misfortune hides.’”
“Just in time, it’s your academy’s turn to hold an exchange with Jifa. This is an Immortal Waterfall Ticket for the Jifa Immortal Waterfall. If you have the chance, go train there.”
Jifa Immortal Waterfall?
Li Yunxian remembered that it was something akin to Tiantong’s Blood Pool and the Wenwu Heavenly Ladder.
As for her, she was no longer lacking in materials or spirit stones—what she needed most were these kinds of opportunities.
Li Yunxian glanced at Fu Ling.
Of everyone present, the one who most hoped she would advance in cultivation as soon as possible was probably this person.
In this respect, Li Yunxian believed Fu Ling would offer her the best options.
Li Yunxian accepted the scroll and thanked her.
Seeing the matter settled, Li Tianying spoke: “If there’s nothing else, we won’t trouble everyone any longer.”
With that, Li Tianying gave Fu Ling a slight bow.
“All right, take care on your way.” Fu Ling responded gently.
Li Tianying nodded, took Li Yunxian by the hand, and in the next instant, the environment around Li Yunxian shifted once again.
When things came back into focus, the two of them were already standing within the familiar grounds of Li Yunxian’s own academy.
Li Yunxian looked around in confusion.
“Teacher, why the rush to come back? I haven’t even said goodbye to anyone yet.”
Li Tianying glanced at Li Yunxian.
Why the rush?
Obviously, it was because she was worried that if they stayed a moment longer, something else would happen, and she might really not be able to return to her own academy.
But facing her own student, Li Tianying certainly wouldn’t say something so cowardly.
She said lightly, “Aren’t you supposed to attend the exchange at Jifa? Better come back early to sign up and participate in the selection.”
Li Yunxian was just a bit surprised—saying goodbye and all that could be done by phone later anyway.
Hearing her teacher’s words, Li Yunxian didn’t think much of it and replied, “So how do I sign up? How’s the selection done?”
As she led Li Yunxian through the process of re-registering at the academy, Li Tianying also explained how to sign up for the exchange.
Once everything was settled, Li Yunxian, her head full of requirements for the exchange, headed toward her own villa.
At the villa entrance, she once again saw the figure with long white hair standing before her.
Li Yunxian froze, looking stunned.
“Are you here to guard my door?” Li Yunxian asked incredulously.
Su Wenjing:
This is way too forced.
Ignoring Li Yunxian’s teasing, Su Wenjing looked at her with a hint of confusion. “You just came back from Wenwu, and now you’re going to Jifa?”
Li Yunxian didn’t answer his question, instead giving him a curious look. “Why are you so interested in even this kind of thing?”
After saying that, Li Yunxian blinked, as if realizing something. “Could it be… you haven’t had anyone to chat with for a long time?”
Li Yunxian knew all about Professor Su Wenjing’s reputation for being cold and aloof in the academy.
He rarely managed affairs, didn’t participate in teaching, and always gave off an indifferent air.
But after a few conversations with Su Wenjing, Li Yunxian didn’t actually think he was the cold, taciturn type.
Could it be that he just felt there was nothing to talk about with others, but since both she and he were once Tribulation Crossing cultivators who’d been through so much, they had more in common—so he kept coming to her for conversation?
The more Li Yunxian thought about it, the more likely it seemed, and she stared at Su Wenjing in disbelief.
Su Wenjing:
His lips twitched!
This girl really had no self-awareness when it came to her “stirring up trouble” tendencies!
Li Yunxian truly didn’t think of herself as trouble-prone.
In her eyes, she always studied and worked diligently, helped her classmates and teachers when she could.
‘Robbing’ people of their money and such was just another form of helping out, within her ability.
As for all those “incidents,” didn’t they always come knocking on her own door? They had nothing to do with her.
So, seeing Su Wenjing at a loss for words, Li Yunxian simply took his silence as acceptance of her theory.
Her expression grew even more shocked.
“You’re not just looking for someone to chat with, are you, little brother?” Li Yunxian asked in surprise.
Su Wenjing looked at Li Yunxian silently.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but ended up feeling there was nothing he wanted to say at all.
When Su Wenjing’s figure vanished from sight, Li Yunxian shrugged, a sly grin appearing on her face.
Sigh, he really is just a little brother.
