Regrettably, Liyami’s premonition became reality.
Lavinea and Elinor’s attacks had no real effect on the “Endless Faller”; they only managed to weaken the evil aura surrounding it.
It seemed that, in the end, only Colin could deal with it.
Only his “Divine Light” magic, which directly countered the enemy, could be truly effective. Though Elinor could also use divine arts, her power was far below Colin’s—she could only slightly weaken the opponent, not slay it.
Lavinea’s attacks, while powerful, didn’t counter the enemy either, and likewise couldn’t quickly kill it.
At the scene, only Colin could end it in a single blow, and he was indeed preparing to do just that.
He was almost done charging his power—just a few more seconds and he could unleash his full attack.
But the “Endless Faller” obviously noticed this too. In an instant, the black mist around it swept over the chains summoned by Syphine, rapidly corroding them away.
Syphine let out a muffled groan, and the black magic circle at her feet shattered and vanished.
In a single moment, the “Endless Faller” broke free of its bindings and prepared to leap off the broken bridge, returning to the abyss.
Colin grew anxious at this sight. He was just a step away from finishing his charge, but the enemy was about to escape.
He couldn’t afford to care anymore—he could only hope that this not-fully-charged blow would be enough!
As the “Endless Faller” was just about to slip out of range, Colin had no other choice. He swung his brilliant sword light at it, even though the charge wasn’t complete.
The sword light was blindingly fast—even the “Endless Faller” almost failed to react, dodging at the last split second.
Even so, it was struck by the sword light.
A blinding flash erupted. Everyone except Colin had to shield their eyes, unable to see what happened to the enemy.
But Colin saw clearly. Even though his incomplete “Divine Light Judgement” struck the “Endless Faller,” he didn’t think that was enough to finish it. He could still sense that evil aura ahead, not yet dispersed.
As expected, when the intense light faded, the “Endless Faller” was still floating in place, not yet dead. Though the black mist around it had thinned greatly—almost gone—it remained aloft, not defeated.
Seeing this, Colin didn’t hesitate. He drew upon his remaining strength and unleashed several more sword lights, hoping to finish it off.
But unexpectedly, the sword lights were all blocked by a black mist barrier that suddenly rose in front of the “Endless Faller.”
This development was beyond Colin’s expectations. He hadn’t thought the weakened enemy could still muster the strength to defend.
Seeing this, Colin prepared to attack again. If one or two blows couldn’t break that barrier, then he’d just keep attacking until it did!
But just then, everyone noticed black lines rising from beneath and above the broken bridge, linking rapidly to the “Endless Faller.” Its surrounding black mist was quickly regenerating.
At that, everyone felt a wave of despair.
No one had expected the enemy to have a way to recover from the abyss at a distance. How could they fight like this? No matter how many times they struck, if they couldn’t kill it in one blow, the enemy would always recover. Meanwhile, their stamina was limited—this couldn’t go on.
Colin began charging up again, hoping that with a fully-charged “Divine Light Judgement,” he might finish the job.
But the “Endless Faller” clearly knew his intentions. Black fireballs began to condense around it, and once formed, they shot directly at the still-charging Colin.
At this moment, Colin had no way to defend—he could only grit his teeth and take the attack head-on.
But while he could endure one barrage, could he withstand five, ten, twenty more? That was impossible—he didn’t have infinite recovery. Sooner or later, the enemy’s attacks would bring him down.
Colin endured the wave of fireballs. Though his charge wasn’t interrupted, he and the area around him grew battered and ragged. He couldn’t hold out much longer.
Liyami was growing desperate as she watched, but there was little she could do to help.
As an assassin, if she couldn’t get close to her target, her usefulness was extremely limited.
Thinking this, Liyami quickly glanced around, hoping to find some way out of this predicament.
And then she saw the capsule Syphine had dropped on the ground.
Syphine had previously used this to pull the “Endless Faller” out of its falling state. But now, the enemy was no longer falling—so the capsule was useless, or was it… No, it still had a use!
A spark of inspiration flashed in Liyami’s mind—she suddenly thought of a feasible idea.
The “Endless Faller” clearly recognized that Colin was its greatest threat among the group, which was why it kept attacking him, making it hard for Colin to keep charging his power. This way, it could stay undefeated.
But if she could divert its attention from Colin, he might have the time he needed to charge and deliver the finishing blow!
As for how to distract the enemy, Liyami had a good plan. The question was—who should take on this role?
She looked at the others. Colin was out of the question—he was the finisher, he couldn’t do it.
Syphine, after her magic circle was destroyed, had suffered severe backlash. She lay on the ground, unable to move, completely incapable of taking on the task.
Elinor wasn’t in much better shape. After using divine arts to defeat the “Qing Tong” armored men and then fighting madly alongside the knights, she had exhausted her power. Just standing was draining her last reserves. Even so, she was still quietly praying, trying to cast a shield for Colin and share his burden, though it was better than nothing.
As for Lavinea, she would be a good choice, but she had another crucial duty: blocking the “Endless Faller’s” attacks. Other than Colin, she was the only one present who still had energy to fight. Right now, she was still firing arrows at the black fireballs, detonating them before they could reach Colin. If she was pulled away, who would handle the fireballs?
In other words, the only suitable person left was Liyami herself!
She alone still had strength to spare, but wasn’t able to block attacks or fight the enemy directly, so she was free to do this. She was the perfect choice!
Having realized this, Liyami didn’t hesitate. She grabbed the capsule and prepared to put her plan into action.
As long as this plan worked, they could defeat the “Endless Faller”!
