After washing up with her new set of toiletries, Loweia left the bathroom.
Bai Yu was currently busy in the kitchen.
‘I wonder what Bai Yu is making. Whatever it is, it should be delicious. I’m looking forward to it.’
Before Bai Yu finished breakfast, Loweia continued to search the living room, trying to find traces she might have left behind.
After a bit of searching, Loweia’s gaze landed on a baseball bat in the corner of the room.
‘This thing doesn’t seem to fit the style of this home.’
She subconsciously approached the bat.
The moment she got close, Loweia’s expression changed.
She caught a whiff of a strange odor — a bit foul and very unpleasant.
When Bai Yu had cleaned the baseball bat last night, she had scrubbed it thoroughly and smelled it herself to ensure the scent of blood was gone before putting it back.
However, she seemed to have underestimated Loweia.
Despite her memory loss, she was still the Pale Witch; her perception far exceeded that of an ordinary person, allowing her to catch lingering smells Bai Yu couldn’t detect.
Loweia crouched in the corner, staring at the seemingly clean baseball bat, her brows furrowing slightly.
‘Why would there be such a strange smell on this?’
Loweia stood up and looked toward the kitchen.
Even from a distance, she could see that Bai Yu was still wearing yesterday’s T-shirt.
She remembered a tear in the fabric on Bai Yu’s left shoulder.
If she recalled correctly, Bai Yu had said she accidentally snagged it on some junk in the hallway while going downstairs.
Turning her head to look back at the foul-smelling bat, Loweia wondered if Bai Yu had actually encountered danger last night instead of just being clumsy.
If she really had been scratched by junk piled in the hallway, the object might still be there since only one night had passed.
‘If I go look now, I should be able to figure out what happened.’
But if she just ran out like that, Bai Yu would probably be worried if she found the house empty.
However… curiosity was like a kitten clawing at her heart, making her feel restless.
‘Just one look. I’ll come back right after. As long as I’m back before she finishes breakfast, she won’t even know I left, and I won’t make her worry.’
After making her decision, Loweia glanced at Bai Yu, who was focused on the stove.
She lightened her steps as she approached the entrance, gripped the handle, and gently opened the door.
Following a soft *creak*, Loweia nervously looked back at Bai Yu.
Seeing that Bai Yu hadn’t noticed any movement, Loweia quickly slipped out and entered the dimly lit hallway.
‘Alright, now let me find whatever it was that tore Bai Yu’s clothes.’
The girl held onto the railing and slowly walked down the stairs.
There was indeed some junk piled in the stairwell, but most of it consisted of cardboard boxes and some discarded furniture.
The boxes wouldn’t have torn her clothes, so it could only have been the furniture.
However, those items were all piled in the corners.
Although the hallway was dim, if Bai Yu had been holding the railing while walking down, she wouldn’t have been caught on furniture tucked against the wall.
‘Then what happened? It’s only been one night; it’s impossible for the debris that tore her clothes to have been cleared away already.’
Loweia continued downstairs.
Bai Yu’s home was on the third floor, and Loweia soon reached the first floor and arrived at the building’s entrance.
The cool morning air brushed against her face.
The street outside was quiet, with nothing but the sound of the breeze rustling fallen leaves.
Loweia scanned the area, but she didn’t see anything sharp enough to tear Bai Yu’s T-shirt.
Everything seemed so peaceful, but if there wasn’t anything dangerous, then why was the shirt on Bai Yu’s left shoulder shredded?
And why did that bat carry such a foul stench?
Loweia suddenly had a premonition that there might be something complicated going on.
Yesterday, Bai Yu said she went downstairs.
But why would she go down in the middle of the night?
Loweia carefully searched her memories of the previous night.
She remembered that when she woke up and saw the pitch-black room, she had shrunk into the corner out of fear and called out Bai Yu’s name.
But she hadn’t received a response for a long time.
Bai Yu must have been out then.
Loweia should have heard her when she returned.
She tried hard to recall the memories.
She seemed to remember hearing a faint sound… was it the sound of running water?
‘Wait…’
If she hadn’t misheard, could that have been Bai Yu cleaning the bat?
Going out late at night with a baseball bat, cleaning it upon return, and leaving a lingering foul smell on it even by morning…
‘Could Bai Yu have gone out to fight someone last night?’
But Bai Yu looked so petite and had such a gentle personality; would she really get into a conflict with someone in the middle of the night?
Furthermore, Loweia only knew that she had been injured and lost her memory.
Bai Yu hadn’t actually told her *how* she got hurt.
‘Wait… did Bai Yu go to seek revenge against whoever hurt me? Doesn’t that mean I put her in danger?’
‘No, no… Bai Yu has already helped me enough. How could I let her risk her life for me?’
Loweia turned around and headed back upstairs.
She had to ask Bai Yu for the truth.
If Bai Yu really was doing dangerous things for her sake, she had to stop her.
She couldn’t stand by and watch Bai Yu get hurt because of her.
As Loweia turned to go back up, she didn’t notice a gaze watching the building from the shadows of a trash can on the nearby street corner.
Once Loweia entered the stairwell, the owner of that gaze sank into the ground and vanished.
—
“Wei Ya, breakfast is ready!”
Bai Yu shouted toward the living room.
She expected to hear Loweia’s reply, but the living room remained silent.
“Wei Ya?”
She tried calling again, but there was still no response.
‘Huh? Where did she go now?’
Bai Yu left the kitchen and was about to look for her when she noticed the front door was ajar.
“Good grief!”
‘Seriously, young lady, don’t just wander off! Why did you go outside?’
The situation she feared most had happened.
Bai Yu rushed to the kitchen window to see if Loweia was downstairs.
Although she didn’t see the girl, she was relieved to find that the corpses of the two Abnormal Entities from last night had disappeared.
‘Whew… at least I don’t have to worry about her stumbling onto the bodies.’
At this stage, Bai Yu didn’t want Loweia to come into contact with Abnormal Entities, lest the shock trigger her memories.
Now that that worry was out of the way, she needed to go find her.
However, just as she stepped out the door, she saw that familiar white figure in the hallway.
“Wei Ya?”
Bai Yu rushed over.
“Where did you go? Are you okay? You didn’t run into any danger, did you?”
This time, Bai Yu’s concern was genuine.
She didn’t want this “princess” to step outside and accidentally encounter something that would restore her memory.
“I’m fine. I just wanted to get some fresh air and see the environment where we live.”
Seeing the worry on Bai Yu’s face, Loweia lowered her head in embarrassment.
“I’m sorry for making you worry.”
“It’s okay,” Bai Yu said, shaking her head.
“As long as you’re safe. If you want to go for a walk later, remember to tell me. I’ll go with you.”
“Okay.”
Loweia nodded obediently.
As for the questions in her heart, she decided to wait until they were back inside to ask them.
