Gu Ming sat on the throne in the main hall, gazing around at the empty room with melancholy weighing heavily within his entire body. The events that has transpired lingered in his mind.
With weary eyes and a now heavy heart he Sighed…
One month ago, the Demon Cult Leader had officially appointed him as the Fifth Heavenly King of the Demon Cult. For his new role, he had bestowed upon him an array of gifts- countless gold, silver, and silk, along with a massive palace, and even ordered him to guard a territory.
For a time, with the news of his official appointment as the Fifth Heavenly King of the Demon Cult spreading, the entire Demon Cult was in an uproar.
The Fifth Heavenly King?!!
What was the true meaning of all this ? It meant that Gu Ming was about to become the next Demon Cult Leader!
It was common knowledge that the Demon Cult only had four Heavenly Kings, and the fifth was always the next in line for the leadership.
Not only the Demon Cult, but every thing else was in shambles, on the opposite side, even the Righteous Path Alliance was shocked by the events unfolding before them.
Within the span of three days, Gu Ming’s name as the new Fifth Heavenly King spread across the land, and trouble followed incessantly everywhere.
Within that month, with the news spreading far and wide, dozens of righteous sects lusted after Gu Ming’s head. Even the famous Sword Sect and Saber Sect were no exception.
‘Alliance Leader, hurry up and pull in the net, or your undercover brother will really become the Demon Cult Leader!’
Gu Ming waited day after day, yet he never received any news from the Alliance Leader. There wasn’t even a messenger anymore.
‘I’ve become the Fifth Heavenly King of the Demon Cult. I’m not actually going to inherit the position, am I?’ he pondered
Just the thoughts of the current events unfolding, news of the change in leadership, the rumours spreading around, the chaos and the unrest that followed made Gu Ming let out a long sigh.
The main reason the Leader had appointed him as the Fifth Heavenly King was that he had saved the Demon Cult from a crisis.
Half a year ago, the Demon Cult Leader suddenly fell into a life-threatening coma. For a time, the Demon Cult was leaderless. Without the proper leadership to lead them, the Cult fell into total chaos. The four Heavenly Kings grew restless, all ready to make the best us of the chaos, all wanting to fight for the throne for themselves.
Among them, the Second Heavenly King was the most rampant. He secretly stirred up internal rebellion and, under the guise of protecting the Leader, attempted to assassinate him. He laid siege to the Leader’s palace twice.
At that critical moment of life and death, Gu Ming, who served as one of the Leader’s Guardians, performed the Heaven-Healing Holy Hand. He forcefully dragged the Demon Cult Leader back from the Ghost Gate, allowing him to personally drive back the Second Heavenly King and his men. Only then was the crisis of succession resolved.
Later when the dust had settled, the Demon Cult Leader investigated and discovered that the maid who brewed his tonic every day was the culprit. Every time she brewed the medicine, she would secretly add a small amount of slow-acting poison.
Drinking it once or twice wouldn’t cause any reaction, but with frequent exposure, after drinking it regularly, day by day the toxin levels would rise, leading to a fatal risk.
After learning of her crime, the Demon Cult Leader intended to torture her for the mastermind’s identity. Unexpectedly, the maid committed suicide by poison, and the investigation reached a dead end.
As for the four Heavenly Kings who had been restless — especially the Second Heavenly King — the Leader could only harshly suppress them. He used a policy of pitting them against each other to consolidate his position.
After all, the four Heavenly Kings held military power. Once they united, even if the Demon Cult Leader had heaven-defying abilities, he could not escape the fate of being overthrown.
Thus, the Demon Cult Leader appointed Gu Ming as the Fifth Heavenly King, intending to create a new force to counter the current four.
After all, while Gu Ming served as a Guardian, he had frequently offended the four Heavenly Kings.
However, this was not a long-term solution. If the military power wasn’t centralized, it was only a matter of time before the four Heavenly Kings rebelled again.
Gu Ming once suspected that because he had saved the Demon Cult Leader, the Alliance Leader might think he had defected. But from the moment he became an undercover agent, the Alliance Leader had never contacted him.
‘Did the Alliance Leader forget about me?’
Gu Ming had a massive headache. While he nursed the throbbing headache that had appeared suddenly.
A subordinate right at that very moment, arrived with a report. He rushed into the hall excitedly and knelt on one knee.
” Master Gu Ming! Reporting to you that The Divine Maiden of the Divine Maiden Palace has been captured.”
“!!!”
