However, after entering the factory building, what Feng Ling saw was not the expected workshop assembly line.
All there were were white floor tiles and rows of neat wooden doors, each with a small numbered plaque hanging beside it.
The corridor was filled with the smell of disinfectant.
Feng Ling followed the Workshop Director deeper inside with confusion, until he stopped at a door.
He raised his hand and knocked lightly a few times.
After hearing a vague response from inside, he grasped the handle and pushed the door open.
The scene inside was a classic hospital ward layout: three iron frame beds in a row, with light blue curtains between each bed as partitions.
One might have thought it was someone’s hospital.
On the bed closest to the door lay a young man, half-sitting, his right arm and right leg wrapped in bandages, with his right leg even fixed in a simple traction frame.
Seeing Director Liu push the door open, he first nodded habitually, then quickly noticed the two magical girls following behind him.
The arrival of magical girls made him a bit nervous.
He habitually tried to raise his injured right hand, but couldn’t lift it, so he awkwardly raised his left hand to greet them.
“These two are magical girls. They’ve come to observe our work environment. Don’t be nervous. Just act naturally.”
The Workshop Director explained, then didn’t pay much attention to him, turned around to face Feng Ling and Lian Ge, and officially began to introduce.
“Well, you see, the two magical girls might not be very familiar with our magic collection model.”
“Our Magic Infusion Technology has a cooperative relationship with several hospitals in the city. For those patients who have received treatment in the hospital, are no longer in life-threatening danger, but still need some time to recuperate, the hospital will ask for their opinion, asking if they are willing to be transferred here for convalescence.”
“After being transferred here, not only do they not have to bear the ward fees themselves, but the medical expenses are also covered by our company. Moreover, they receive an additional monthly living allowance, equivalent to paid sick leave.”
“And in exchange, these patients need to undergo magic collection once a day for our company’s research and production.”
He then pointed to the young man on the bed as an example and said, “Take Xiao Li, for example. He was in a car accident and had multiple fractures all over his body. After surgery at the hospital, he couldn’t afford the hospitalization fees, so the hospital recommended him to us.”
Xiao Li nodded in agreement.
“That’s right, that’s true.”
Feng Ling pinched her chin, digesting the information.
She nodded thoughtfully as she looked around the ward.
Magic is based on concepts, and any human activity generates corresponding concepts, along with trace amounts of magic.
For example, when a person is afraid, they generate magic of the “fear” concept; when angry, magic of the “anger” concept; and the process of healing and recuperation naturally generates magic of the “healing” concept.
Although she was a magical girl, she didn’t know much about these emerging magic industries.
But Feng Ling knew that the magic produced by humans in such processes was extremely complex.
Extracting the “healing” magic from the wound healing process, while also stripping away magics such as pain and boredom, seemed to her like a miraculous skill.
After all, even among magical girls, only she had obtained a similar ability through developing the concept of “Flow.”
Had this company already mastered magic technology more advanced than magical girls?
But then again, she had indeed extracted fairly pure healing concept magic from that box of Momo Ointment, which did prove they had some method… For now, she could only assume they really had that level of technical skill.
Feng Ling controlled her phone to scan the entire ward, then asked, “So this is the place for magic collection, huh? Where are the equipment and person responsible for collection?”
“The one responsible for magic collection here is Zhi Jin. At this time, she should be in the next ward collecting from other patients. We’ll run into her as soon as we step out.”
He led Feng Ling and Lian Ge out the door.
Sure enough, as soon as they reached the corridor, they saw a metal cart parked at the entrance of another cubicle not far ahead, with a girl standing beside it.
The girl was bending over, placing the row of small metal bottles from the cart into the bottom of the cart, muttering something under her breath, probably sorting them.
She looked about middle school age, with fluffy short pink hair.
She wore a white short-sleeved nurse uniform and a nurse cap of the same color on her head.
One might think the hospital was hiring child labor.
Feng Ling and Lian Ge walked over.
As soon as they got close, they sensed the magic contained in the bottles and jars on the cart.
Even the girl herself exuded a fairly dense, indescribable magic.
“Zhi Jin, is it convenient for an interview now?” Director Liu called out to her.
“Coming, coming! Of course it’s convenient.”
Zhi Jin also hurried over, gripping the cart handles and running over with a clatter.
“Hello, Director Liu!” Zhi Jin’s eyes fell on Lian Ge and Feng Ling, and she quickly recognized them too.
“And hello to you two magical girl sisters! So, what can I do for you?”
Director Liu briefly introduced the purpose of Feng Ling and Lian Ge’s visit.
Zhi Jin smiled happily and enthusiastically introduced her work.
“I see! Well… my job is to collect the healing magic from the patients… The magic in these bottles was just collected this morning, and later it will be used for research and production.”
“So, are you here to see my work?”
She seemed quite excited to show off her work.
