Su Yu had been busy all day, swamped with work.
Troublesome tasks came one after another, making it hard for her to catch her breath.
By the time she saw Lin Mo’s message, it was already almost 2 PM.
She had just finished handling everything on her plate.
“Su Yu, reply when you get this… We need to move.”
‘Move? What does that mean?’
After listening to the message, Su Yu felt puzzled.
‘Why would we suddenly need to move?’
She couldn’t figure it out.
She checked the time the message was sent; it had been quite a while.
But she had been busy all this time and hadn’t noticed.
Still, it probably wasn’t anything too urgent.
If it were really pressing, he would have called to rush her.
Su Yu pressed the reply button on her bracelet.
“Got it. I’ve been busy. I’m heading back now.”
With that, she gathered her things and hurried out of the Hero Association building, not forgetting to put on a mask.
Otherwise, she would be surrounded by a crowd of passersby and wouldn’t be able to escape for a long time.
If she could, she would even hope Lin Mo could develop an invisible outfit for her so she wouldn’t stand out so much.
But that was a concern for later.
Right now, she had to figure out how to get back.
Su Yu looked around, subtly adjusting the baseball cap on her head.
After making sure no one was paying attention to her, she took out her phone to call a car.
Not long after, a text message popped up with a location:
“Fifty meters straight ahead, black sedan. Get back quickly.”
Su Yu was startled and looked up.
Sure enough, not far ahead, she saw a dark-colored sedan.
It honked at her, as if responding.
‘Could it be Lin Mo?’
Although the message was unsigned, somehow she felt it was Lin Mo’s doing, the kind of thing he would do.
No point overthinking.
She jogged over to the black sedan and knocked on the driver’s side window.
There was no response, but the rear door automatically swung open.
The message was clear.
Su Yu didn’t hesitate.
She bent down and slipped into the car.
The door closed automatically, followed by the roar of the engine.
“Hey, Lin Mo… Lin Mo?”
The girl had just settled in and wanted to greet him, but when she looked up, the driver’s seat was empty.
The steering wheel was eerily turning on its own, as if the car was haunted.
“Wha—What’s going on?”
Faced with this scene, Su Yu was baffled.
But soon, a man’s voice came through the car’s speakers.
“Auto-drive. Don’t make a fuss.”
“I’ve been waiting for you half the day. Didn’t expect you’d only reply now. Since you’re here, let’s start preparing for the move.”
Hearing the familiar voice, Su Yu finally relaxed.
She let out a sigh and leisurely took off her mask and cap, sinking into the leather seat behind her, completely at ease.
“Why so sudden? Shouldn’t we plan such a move carefully?”
She expressed her confusion.
“Can’t be helped. My base’s location has been exposed. For safety, I have to activate a backup base. This is my last base in City A. I hope you won’t inadvertently reveal any information about this base in the future.”
Lin Mo spoke a long sentence on the other end.
Although his voice was tinged with exhaustion and helplessness, Su Yu could still hear that he trusted her.
The corner of her mouth lifted unconsciously as she turned to look out the window.
“Don’t worry. My sense of confidentiality is pretty high. I always think before I speak. You don’t need to worry about me.”
Lin Mo was silent for a moment, as if recalling past events.
Finally, only a sigh came through.
“I hope so… Let’s put that aside for now. There’s a lot of work to do once we get to the new base. I’m taking you home now. Pack up as quickly as you can.”
Su Yu was taken aback and scratched the back of her head in confusion.
‘Pack up? Why not just take me to the new base?’
Whenever Lin Mo said something she didn’t understand, she knew something bad was about to happen.
A vague sense of dread crept into her heart.
“Of course, I mean go home and pack your luggage. Bring all your valuables to the new base. You’ll need to stay here for a long time to come.”
“Wha—What?!”
Su Yu felt as if struck by lightning.
She stood up from the seat, only to bang her head on the car roof.
Letting out a yelp, she held her head and sat back down in disbelief.
“But why?”
“It can’t be helped.”
Lin Mo sighed.
He hesitated, but still didn’t tell her the specifics.
“I can’t tell you too much… You just need to know that someone’s got their eyes on me now… And they might also target you. For your safety, you’ll have to stay in the lab for a while.”
“But… I’m used to living alone. Moving in together feels so inconvenient…”
Su Yu’s face was full of bitterness and resistance.
Honestly, she was used to living by herself.
The thought of having a roommate immediately made her uncomfortable.
“Don’t worry. The new base is huge. I’ll give you plenty of personal space. The living area is well-equipped. Maybe here, your quality of life will be even better than before.”
“This isn’t about quality of life at all…”
Su Yu rubbed her forehead.
She felt an indescribable conflict inside.
On one hand, she resisted the idea of cohabitation.
On the other, she didn’t want to cause Lin Mo trouble over her own issues.
This contradictory feeling was like a pair of angels and demons wrestling in a locker room, locked in an intense struggle.
But then she thought about it—she was an adult.
There was no need to be so sensitive.
Lin Mo was only looking out for her safety.
She couldn’t risk her life for the sake of a little freedom.
‘Really… What am I even thinking…’
Su Yu felt regret over her hesitation.
She was acting like she was throwing a tantrum at her own mother.
“Fine. I’ll go pack up now. But honestly, I don’t have many valuables. The only thing worth anything is a computer, and it’s broken.”
“That’s careless. Even so, you should still go back and check. I doubt you’ll ever revisit that place. Don’t leave anything important behind.”
Lin Mo rarely made jokes.
Although today’s events had been unpleasant and left him frustrated, chatting with Su Yu for a bit improved his mood.
“That’s it. Call me when you’re done packing, and I’ll send you to the base.”
“Alright. I’m off to work now.”
