Chapter 149: Hospital

“Doctor! How is she?”

When the counselor saw the doctor come out of the operating room, he immediately stepped forward and asked nervously.

Almost at the same time, Chen Zhilong, Wang Zuhao, and Lin Mingxin stood up and quickly gathered around.

“The situation is not bad—a fracture and some stitches. She should be able to leave the hospital in about half a month.”

The counselor let out a long sigh of relief.

The doctor looked around awkwardly and asked, “When can her family come? There are some things I need to explain.”

“Uh, does Qiu Ye count? He’s Bai Yao’s boyfriend,” Chen Zhilong asked.

The group and the doctor all turned to look at Qiu Ye, who was sitting slumped in a chair, staring blankly ahead as if he hadn’t snapped out of it for a long time.

Seeing his utterly lost expression, the doctor could tell at a glance that he was indeed the victim’s boyfriend.

“Don’t worry. If all goes well, she’ll be discharged in ten days or so.”

He walked over and patted Qiu Ye on the shoulder to comfort him.

“So you’re the boyfriend? Then you must have already known about her condition?”

“Our hospital will issue her a certificate, which will make it easier to change her legal identity later.”

Qiu Ye froze for a moment, realizing the doctor might have noticed Bai Yao’s situation.

“Say something human, will you? Does anything still hurt? The doctor said it’s just a fracture and some stitches—not too serious.”

“Probably not a big deal?”

Lin Mingxin looked at the gauze wrapped around Bai Yao’s head.

“She was already dumb—hope the accident didn’t mess up her brain even more. Just sitting here smiling like an idiot.”

Bai Yao couldn’t be bothered to engage with those rotten friends.

She just looked at Qiu Ye and gave him a reassuring glance.

She had long heard from the System that she would “uninstall QQ” in a car accident about half a year from now, but she had completely forgotten about it.

Luckily, she had already fully transformed into a girl, and this time it was just a minor injury—a broken leg, a pelvic crack, and a few stitches.

Qiu Ye sat beside the bed, holding Bai Yao’s hand tightly, staring at her blankly.

Around them stood a circle of roommates and the counselor.

“A couple living in the same dorm?”

She glanced at his expression and had no choice but to let him keep holding it.

She wanted to say something, but with others present, she couldn’t speak.

“How about we head back first?”

Chen Zhilong suggested, sensing the awkward atmosphere in the room.

“I’ll come see you after the exam tomorrow.”

“Okay.”

The counselor checked the time.

“I called your parents. They should be here in about an hour. Don’t worry.”

She couldn’t stop worrying!

Bai Yao’s face turned even worse.

She didn’t want her parents to know at all.

Ever since she was little, whether she got hurt outside or was bullied, she always got scolded when she got home.

Hearing this news now only made her more anxious.

She pursed her lips and turned her head to look at the blank wall.

The roommates left first, and the counselor also went to the corridor outside the ward to wait for Bai Yao’s parents.

At last, the room had only the young man and the young woman.

Bai Yao endured the pain and looked at the tear tracks on Qiu Ye’s face.

She mumbled, “You look so ugly when you cry.”

“Yeah…”

“The doctor said it’s nothing serious. Stop holding my hand all the time.”

“Didn’t you say that holding hands makes you feel more at ease?”

Bai Yao remembered how she had taken care of Qiu Ye in the hospital back then.

She never thought that today she would be the one being cared for.

Qiu Ye cupped her hand, lowered his head, and pressed it against his forehead, letting out a long sigh.

“Thank god you’re okay. When I saw you get hit, my mind went blank… Thank god you’re okay. I almost thought you…”

She looked at him, seeing a stray puppy that had almost lost its owner.

Both amused and touched, she stroked his head.

“Alright, I’m really fine. For someone who’s usually over six feet tall and looks so fierce.”

“By the way, what about the cost of hospitalization and surgery?”

“The driver paid in advance. Don’t worry about the money.”

“Good. I thought I was going to go bankrupt.”

Qiu Ye pushed Bai Yao’s bangs behind her ear, his lips moving as he struggled to ask, “Does it hurt?”

She had been holding it in, but that question made her face crumple instantly.

“It hurts like hell.”

She hated pain the most, and the System had even heightened her sensitivity.

When the car hit her, the pain knocked her out cold.

“It still hurts now… Everything hurts.”

Her voice cracked as she forced out a couple of pathetic tears, startling Qiu Ye into wiping them away frantically, not knowing how to comfort her.

“Am I going to be stuck in bed for days? Then what about going to the bathroom? And my parents will be here soon—they’re definitely going to yell at me when they see me like this.”

“It’s okay… if they dare yell at you, I’ll…”

Qiu Ye kept stroking her head to soothe her.

“Don’t worry. I’ll try to talk them into it.”

“I thought you were going to yell back at them for me.”

“Well, they’re my future in-laws. That wouldn’t be a good idea.”
