Gu Qingyuan gently and carefully placed the Little Thing onto the wheelchair.
A feeling he couldn’t describe welled up in his heart—something like happiness, but not quite… Su Ling grabbed both sides of the wheelchair with his hands, his fingers touching the fabric. He looked at his broken legs, and his eyes instantly grew hot.
“How come you’re crying?”
Su Ling opened his mouth, but ultimately chose silence.
“Is it because you’re happy?”
‘How could it be happiness? His legs were gone, he would never walk normally again—how could he be happy?’ Su Ling looked up in confusion, not understanding why Master would say that.
Gu Qingyuan saw his hesitation and nodded slightly. But when he looked up and noticed the expectation in Master’s eyes, he nodded against his will.
“Seeing the wheelchair I prepared will definitely make him happy.” Seeing Su Ling nod, Gu Qingyuan smiled. She knew the Little Thing would be happy to see the wheelchair she prepared.
“If you become a big messy cat, you won’t look pretty.” Su Ling’s soft cat ears were touched, and his body instinctively shrank.
“Alright, alright, stop crying. If you keep crying, you’ll turn into a big messy cat.” Gu Qingyuan said with a smile.
“Don’t dodge!”
Su Ling’s body became completely still, unable to move. Another tear silently slid down. Gu Qingyuan’s voice suddenly turned stern, and Su Ling’s heart trembled; he froze instantly.
He was afraid…
Afraid of Master. He understood his state very clearly—he was afraid.
‘But before, he never used to be like this…’
Before, he only had attachment to Master, regarding her as his only one.
But now he was afraid of Master. Even though he still felt attachment, it seemed he no longer regarded her as his only one.
Because his mind always thought of Elder Sister… remembered Elder Sister’s kindness…
Remembering Elder Sister’s kindness… He knew, very clearly knew, that this was wrong. He belonged to Master.
And Elder Sister was the one who hurt him. He shouldn’t think of Elder Sister; he should think of Master wholeheartedly. But he simply couldn’t do it. Elder Sister always uncontrollably popped into his mind.
Gu Qingyuan crouched down. “Stop crying. If you keep crying, Master will get angry.” She gently wiped away the Little Thing’s tears, thinking it a little strange that his tears only increased the more she wiped, but she didn’t dwell on it, simply assuming the Little Thing was too happy.
Su Ling cried for a while, then finally stopped.
Seeing Master’s hands soaked with his tears, he felt even more guilty. He wanted to say something apologetic, but couldn’t say anything.
He sniffled, raised his hand to wipe away the last tears, and grabbed her two big hands with his two small hands, wanting to help Master wipe the tears off her hands.
But as soon as his small hands touched hers, they were instantly grasped in return.
“The Little Thing cries so fiercely. Next time, I want to see you cry like this in bed, okay?”
Su Ling was stared at by Master’s scorching gaze. His pretty face flushed, and he shyly turned away.
Gu Qingyuan watched his white teeth lightly biting his lip. This shy little appearance made her “blood boil!”
But she had promised the Little Thing she would take him out for a walk later, so she couldn’t break her word. Still, she forcefully suppressed the restlessness in her heart, after all…
Su Ling thought he was about to be pinned down and bullied again, but what he imagined didn’t happen. Instead, the wheelchair slowly started moving.
Opening his eyes and turning his head, he saw Master pushing the wheelchair with both hands, looking at him with a smile.
“How is it?”
Su Ling’s pretty face flushed. ‘It wasn’t what I thought…’ He lowered his head, feeling a little shy. ‘Master didn’t want to…’
“Little Thing, what are you thinking about?”
Su Ling lightly shook his head, but kept his head down, his little face flushed.
Gu Qingyuan let out a light laugh, glanced at the surrounding scenery—it was quite nice.
But she didn’t stop; she kept pushing the Little Thing until they reached a huge swimming pool.
The water in the pool was clear and transparent, gently swaying with the wind-rippled waves.
“Little Thing, lift your head. I brought you out not for you to keep your head down.”
Su Ling raised his head and looked at the surroundings. What came into view was the swimming pool in front and, not far away, a garden that looked like a maze.
Then he looked toward the horizon. There weren’t many clouds in the sky; only a blazing sun shone down.
He stared at that sun. Even though his eyes were sore and painful, he kept staring.
Because he hadn’t seen it for a very long time.
Before, it was something he could see with a casual glance, but now it had become something he hadn’t seen for a long time.
For a moment, a nameless bitterness welled up in his heart, making him want to cry.
“Tsk, don’t keep staring at the sun. Your eyes will hurt.”
Gu Qingyuan turned the Little Thing’s head around, picked him up, and slowly walked to the edge of the pool.
“Can you swim?”
Su Ling shook his head. He had learned as a child, but never managed to learn. He had always been very stupid…
Master’s clothes seemed to be just an everyday T-shirt and shorts. Doesn’t Master change into a swimsuit for swimming? But these questions, he was destined never to ask.
Su Ling nodded, though he was a little puzzled.
“It’s fine, I’ll swim with you. I also have a swimming ring.” But there’s the everyday…
Before Su Ling could react, he was picked up and jumped into the water. Instantly, a strong sense of suffocation hit him.
His heart immediately panicked, and his two small hands flailed about wildly.
Gu Qingyuan had a hint of a smile on her lips, and with one big hand she firmly held the Little Thing’s slender waist.
Although the Little Fellow was flailing about, it didn’t affect her at all. After all, the Little Fellow’s strength was pitifully small.
When the Little Thing was tired from flailing, she reached out and brushed aside the wet long hair on his forehead.
“Little Thing, don’t be afraid. Master is here!”
Master’s voice reached his ears, like a shot of adrenaline to Su Ling’s panicked heart.
Su Ling slowly opened his eyes and saw Master with a smile in her eyes. The next moment, Su Ling’s mouth drooped, and he immediately showed a wronged expression.
‘How could Master be like this? I’m scared to death here, and she’s over there laughing.’
“Alright, stop crying. Here’s a swimming ring for you. Then you won’t be afraid.”
Gu Qingyuan pulled over a swimming ring floating nearby, directly picked up the Little Thing, and stuffed him into it.
Supported by the swimming ring, the fear in Su Ling’s heart finally lessened a bit. He extended his fingers and gently moved them through the water.
Actually, he really liked water.
But Elder Sister wouldn’t let him play in the water. Whenever she saw him playing in the water, she would scold him.
Now…
The approaching Master made Su Ling’s body tremble. He turned his head and saw that, somehow, she had already…
He bit his lip and shook his head gently, his eyes full of pleading.
Su Ling understood in an instant what the other was saying.
“Little Thing, what do you think it would feel like in the water?”
He was afraid. What if an accident happened?
But he forgot that he had absolutely no right to refuse!
He was directly half-pushed by the other to the edge of the pool, and his calves were slowly lifted up.
“Be good, put your legs on my shoulders. That way it’s more stable.”
“Don’t be too afraid. This time, I’ll be very, very gentle…”
Hearing this, Su Ling closed his eyes in resignation, his two small hands gripping the edge of the pool tightly. Since he couldn’t refuse anyway, he just hoped nothing unexpected would happen.
