What’s a Cram School?
Mu Yanxi heard another term she’d never heard before. A girl asked:
“Teacher Qiongdann, can’t you just teach us traditional alchemy directly in the Elixir Refining class?”
“Unfortunately, even though I want to teach you, the Spiritual Moon Sect’s Elixir Refining curriculum only covers the Living Elixir Technique.”
“However, I certainly want to teach more disciples alchemy. If you’re truly diligent and hardworking, then come to my cram school after class. I can teach you both traditional alchemy and new style alchemy.”
Qiongdann Laoren said amiably.
What the heck is new style alchemy?
Mu Yanxi searched the Dao web. It was said to be a new type of elixir technique that fused alchemy plundered from conquered worlds.
It used flasks, test tubes, crucibles, etc., for liquid extraction, and a series of reactions between medicinal agents to purify or enhance medicinal properties.
The physical enhancement injection from before was a product of this new style alchemy.
The innovation of new style alchemy had added many new types of spirit pills and miraculous medicines to the cultivation realm, making cultivation assistance more comprehensive.
“Teacher Qiongdann, I want to attend your cram school too, but we just enrolled and the Spiritual Moon Sect’s schedule is very packed. What if we don’t have time?”
Another girl asked.
“I’ll try to schedule the cram school on weekends when there are no classes. If time conflicts are unavoidable, you can also buy my online courses and study on the Dao web.”
“The content and effectiveness are the same, you just won’t receive my personal guidance or have the chance to ask questions in class.”
Qiongdann Laoren said understandingly.
Mu Yanxi listened to him talk all this, and in the end, it all came down to money.
When a female disciple asked him how much the cram school or online courses cost, he said the cram school was two thousand spirit stones per quarter, and the online courses were two hundred spirit stones per lesson.
But after hearing that number, Mu Yanxi felt it wasn’t too excessive?
After all, this was a Grandmaster of Alchemy personally teaching you alchemy. Two thousand spirit stones was an incredibly good deal. In her past life, no one would even dare to dream of learning alchemy for two hundred spirit stones.
But considering that Qiongdann Laoren not only taught at the Spiritual Moon Sect, but even the Great Sect, and not only the elite class, but possibly even people outside the sect. As long as there were enough students, he could probably earn a lot of spirit stones.
The disciples who were short on money all lowered their heads regretfully. They couldn’t even come up with two thousand spirit stones. As for the online courses, they all knew it was impossible to learn alchemy in one lesson.
“Don’t worry, everyone, don’t be discouraged. Work hard on your assignments, and the best disciples can read my notes. If I’m truly satisfied, you can read them even if you’re not first.”
“And I’ll assign many more assignments in the future. Those who do the best each time can read my alchemy notes. If you’ve already read them, you can choose to ask me questions as a reward.”
Qiongdann Laoren looked like a tireless teacher and role model.
But with his guarantee, many disciples did become motivated. After class, the wealthy female disciples went to ask how to sign up for the cram school, while the poor ones first planned to try and refine their first Living Elixir well.
Mu Yanxi looked at the prescription on her Spirit Moon Ring and followed them to the Medicine Garden next to Danhua Palace to get herbs.
There was a senior sister in charge of dispensing herbs to them, assisting Teacher Qiongdann in class.
This senior sister even used herself as an example to encourage everyone:
“Work hard, junior sisters. Master is one of the most generous teachers at the Spiritual Moon Sect. Not only are there rewards every class, but if you do exceptionally well each time, you can even become a Pill Apprentice under Master, just like me.”
“Wait! Senior Sister, you call him ‘Master’? Have you already become his disciple?”
A girl asked in surprise, and the other female disciples cast envious glances at her.
A blush flashed across the senior sister’s face, and she said with a hint of glee:
“Not yet. How easy is it to become master’s disciple? Right now I’m still just a Herb Gathering Girl, but I will work hard to become a disciple, even if it’s just a Registered Disciple!”
“Don’t work so hard that you end up becoming a bed-sharing girl.”
Shangguan Yun walked over and said jokingly.
“Th…that wouldn’t be bad either.”
The senior sister said with a red face, clearly not minding at all if Qiongdann Laoren pushed her down. In fact, this might be a better, simpler path.
The other female disciples started teasing her.
Mu Yanxi silently took a packet of herbs and left.
For a Grandmaster of Alchemy, there were too many things he could offer. Even a tiny bit leaking from between his fingers would be enough to feed these girls for over a decade. He had them right in the palm of his hand.
On the way, Mu Yanxi saw Yu Qiuyu also holding a packet of herbs, swallowing them piece by piece.
She caught up and asked:
“You’ve mastered the digestion technique that quickly? You dare to eat herbs like that consecutively?”
“It’s not bad. This Living Elixir Technique is quite interesting, makes one want to try more. Mu Yanxi, what about you?”
Yu Qiuyu continued to speak in a somewhat mysterious manner.
“Me? So-so.”
Mu Yanxi smiled bitterly.
In reality, she had already roughly mastered the Living Elixir Technique. If she wanted, she could swallow all these herbs now, digest them, and should be able to produce the elixir by tonight.
But Mu Yanxi was still conflicted about one thing.
Should she absorb all the medicinal properties she could, retaining only the purified essence?
But if she did that, it seemed like she would be embezzling quite a bit of herbs.
After thinking, Mu Yanxi decided she must refine properly and treat each of her alchemy sessions seriously.
No matter the process, at least she shouldn’t cut corners.
Immortality cultivation was all about striving for perfection.
Moreover, refining a high-quality Holy Fire Pill was worth far more than this packet of herbs.
Qiongdann Laoren collected so many Holy Fire Pills under the guise of assignments, probably already assuming that the medicinal properties absorbed during the process were rewards for the disciples.
“Oh right, this afternoon is Sword Dao class. I can’t wait. I’ve long heard that the Spiritual Moon Palace’s Lingyue Sword Art is a top-tier refining mastery.”
Yu Qiuyu said expectantly, then stepped onto her flying sword and left.
“Refining mastery?”
Mu Yanxi was full of question marks.
Was she sure she hadn’t misspoken?
Lingyue Sword Art sounded like a sword dao technique, and the class was Sword Dao class. How could it be a refining mastery?
Yu Qiuyu probably made a slip of the tongue.
But she had already flown far away, and Mu Yanxi couldn’t ask even if she wanted to.
This Yu Qiuyu really seemed quite knowledgeable about the various techniques of the Spiritual Moon Sect. It seemed she enrolled specifically for these techniques.
Thinking of this, Mu Yanxi opened the paper bag.
A medicinal fragrance wafted out.
Accompanying fire grass, flame rune flower, flame beast rib meat—most were fire-attributed materials.
It seemed lunch wasn’t necessary.
Mu Yanxi picked up these herbs, just like Yu Qiuyu had done earlier, taking them out one by one, shoving them directly into her mouth, injecting them into the Living Elixir, then digesting all the minor components in one go, retaining the essence.
