“Alright, we’ll ask when A Ran is free.”
Jiu Baiyun rubbed his forehead and let out a helpless sigh.
A Ran was still busy right now, so it wasn’t appropriate to ask immediately.
They’d have to wait until noon when there were fewer people.
“But… I was thinking, if A Ran doesn’t want to, should we just knock her out and pack her up to take along?”
Jiu Baiyun looked at Su Zhiyun, half-joking.
You have to admit, that was indeed the simplest and fastest method.
She had been checking some information on the system panel when she suddenly heard Jiu Baiyun say that.
Su Zhiyun was instantly speechless.
She jerked her head up, glared at Jiu Baiyun as if he were crazy, and said crossly.
“Jiu Baiyun! Did a mountain sparrow peck your brain last night? That’s A Ran! She’s not your luggage! Knock her out and pack her up? How could you think of that!”
Su Zhiyun was so exasperated by Jiu Baiyun’s stupid “knock out and pack up” idea that she rolled her eyes.
She was about to scold him a bit more when the corner of her eye caught sight of A Ran’s figure standing quietly at the entrance of the Ancestral Hall.
At some point, A Ran had finished her work and was now tilting her head slightly, a hint of confusion in her eyes.
Watching the two whispering behind the house, she had clearly heard the last few sentences of their conversation.
“Sister Su? Big Brother Jiu?”
A Ran’s voice carried a hint of hesitation as she took small steps over.
“What… are you talking about? What’s this about knocking out and packing up?”
Hearing A Ran’s question, Su Zhiyun’s face showed a trace of embarrassment.
After shooting another fierce glare at Jiu Baiyun, she turned to look at A Ran with a smile.
“It’s nothing. Your Big Brother Jiu just wanted to ask if you’re willing to leave.”
“Leave? Did… something happen?”
A Ran hesitated for a moment, then looked at Su Zhiyun in confusion.
“Don’t look at me. I didn’t bring it up. You’ll have to ask your Big Brother Jiu…”
Su Zhiyun pursed her lips and immediately kicked the ball to Jiu Baiyun.
Following Su Zhiyun’s words, A Ran turned to look at Jiu Baiyun.
Caught off guard by Su Zhiyun’s blame-shifting, Jiu Baiyun was momentarily at a loss for words in the face of A Ran’s clear, questioning eyes.
He couldn’t very well just say, “This place is about to be slaughtered like pigs; we need to flee for our lives,” could he?
He took a deep breath, trying to keep his tone steady, and ignoring Su Zhiyun’s look of amusement from the side.
“A Ran,” Jiu Baiyun crouched down to bring his eyes level with hers, his voice low.
“We might… need to leave the village for a while.”
“What happened last night… is just the beginning of the trouble…”
The beginning of the trouble? A Ran looked at Jiu Baiyun in confusion.
“Why do you say that? And even if there’s trouble, don’t we still have Lord Fox Immortal? Why do we have to leave?”
“A Ran,” Su Zhiyun also crouched down.
“Lord Fox Immortal is of course very powerful, and he did protect us last night. But Big Brother Jiu just learned some… not-so-good news from down the mountain.”
She chose her words carefully, avoiding bloody terms like “harvest” and “fattening up.”
“The Great Lan Sect, that big immortal sect, you know of it? They… seem to be moving away. The entire sect is preparing to evacuate.”
“The Great Lan Sect… moving away?”
A Ran clearly knew the weight of the Great Lan Sect.
Her small face was full of shock.
“They… they’re so powerful. Why would they leave?”
“The specific reason isn’t clear,” Jiu Baiyun interjected, his tone grave.
“But for a sect like that to choose to abandon its mountain foundation and move the entire sect, the situation must be anything but small.”
He paused, looking into A Ran’s eyes, then continued.
“A Ran, this place might soon become very, very dangerous. Dangerous beyond our imagination, and possibly… beyond what Lord Fox Immortal can protect.”
“Beyond Lord Fox Immortal?”
A Ran pouted, clearly not believing it.
“No way. Lord Fox Immortal is very powerful! If you don’t believe me, ask Sister Su Zhiyun!”
Hearing A Ran’s words, Jiu Baiyun immediately showed a look that was half laughing and half crying.
‘Did he not know how powerful Lord Fox Immortal was? If he really were that powerful, he wouldn’t be running away…’
“A Ran, Lord Fox Immortal is very strong. We all believe that.”
“But what about the Great Lan Sect? With all those powerful immortals, they’re even abandoning their mountain gate. What do you think the reason is? Is it because they think they can handle it easily?”
The determination on A Ran’s small face wavered slightly.
In her mind, the Great Lan Sect were the true guardians of this land, a symbol of immense power.
For even them to flee… the impact of that fact was more direct than any words from Jiu Baiyun or Su Zhiyun.
She believed in Lord Fox Immortal, but she wasn’t unaware of the Great Lan Sect’s scale.
However, Lord Fox Immortal also held great weight in her heart, and she preferred to believe in him…
Seeing the hesitation and conflict on A Ran’s face, Jiu Baiyun took a deep breath, then sighed again.
He had known it wouldn’t be easy to convince A Ran.
Su Zhiyun was also somewhat helpless on the side.
She opened her mouth, about to say something, but the next moment, the system panel suddenly went abnormal.
[Beep! Beep! Beep!]
[WARNING!!!]
[WARNING!!!]
The silent system interface in Su Zhiyun’s mind exploded with a glaring patch of blood red without warning.
A huge, flashing red exclamation mark instantly filled her entire vision.
The system still didn’t give the reason for the warning, but Su Zhiyun knew the system’s nature well.
In terms of these early warnings, the system had never been wrong.
If nothing unexpected happened, the danger Jiu Baiyun had mentioned was likely about to arrive.
Thinking this, Su Zhiyun felt a pang of anxiety.
It wasn’t that she didn’t believe in Lord Fox Immortal, but with danger of this level, Lord Fox Immortal alone might not be able to hold it off.
A thought flashed through her mind.
Su Zhiyun turned her gaze to A Ran and said very seriously, “A Ran, actually, Lord Fox Immortal has already left this place…”
“Huh? Lord Fox Immortal left?”
A Ran was instantly confused and turned her gaze to Su Zhiyun.
Su Zhiyun’s sudden statement also surprised Jiu Baiyun.
He had originally just mentioned that plan in passing, but he didn’t expect it would be Su Zhiyun who would say it in the end.
However, Su Zhiyun looked a bit anxious… Had something else happened…?
Su Zhiyun didn’t want to think about too much at the moment.
She just wanted to persuade A Ran quickly and then have Jiu Baiyun take her away from this place.
As for why she couldn’t leave alone… wasn’t it obvious?
She wasn’t fast enough!
“A Ran, I know something about when Lord Fox Immortal left last night. Lord Fox Immortal has actually already left this place… That’s why Big Brother Jiu said Lord Fox Immortal can’t protect us…”
“The reason we’re leaving is not just to avoid this danger, but more importantly, to go find Lord Fox Immortal.”
