Chapter 28: A Warm Lunch

“Kind Sister is here.”

Cheng Yueqing quickly pulled away from Cheng Yuexin’s chest and smiled shyly at Liu Yingqiu.

Hearing Yueqing’s address, Cheng Yuexin was startled at first, then turned to look at Liu Yingqiu in the doorway.

“You… how did you get here?”

She sized up Liu Yingqiu.

She wore a simple casual outfit, with golden hair tied in a high ponytail, looking full of energy.

“Uh, I figured you’d be at the hospital, so I came to find you. I brought lunch along.”

She set the bag on the bedside table, took out the lunch boxes inside, and arranged them.

After setting out the dishes, she brought out the rice and congee.

“Oh, right, century egg and lean meat congee—that’s for Yueqing.”

Liu Yingqiu specifically took out the steaming hot bowl of congee and placed it closer to Yueqing’s side.

Cheng Yuexin stood dumbfounded by the bed, reading a lot into Liu Yingqiu’s words.

Liu Yingqiu turned her gaze to Yueqing, her face full of kindness.

“How about I feed Yueqing? I’m not hungry yet.”

Yueqing blinked in surprise and looked at Yueqing.

“Huh? Is that okay?”

Cheng Yueqing nodded without hesitation, her brows already curved into crescents.

“It’s okay, as long as Sister Yingqiu doesn’t mind the trouble.”

“Of course not.”

Liu Yingqiu held the congee as she sat by the bed, signaling with her eyes for Yuexin to eat first.

Since Yueqing had agreed, Yuexin couldn’t really object.

She let out a relieved sigh and sat at the bedside table to eat.

This was the first time she’d seen Yueqing agree to let someone else feed her.

Liu Yingqiu picked up the spoon, scraped the top layer of hot congee, blew on it a couple of times to cool it down, then brought it to Yueqing’s lips.

Yueqing gave a approving smile, and Liu Yingqiu smiled along.

“That’s good. I was afraid I’d bought something not tasty.”

“Sister Yingqiu, I want to try the eggplant.”

“Then I’ll get you some.”

She picked up chopsticks, grabbed a piece of soft eggplant, and fed it to Yueqing.

“Mm, this is good too. Sister, you should eat too.”

Cheng Yuexin was holding her rice, staring blankly at them, until Yueqing’s words snapped her back to reality.

“I am eating.”

Realizing she’d been caught, Yuexin took a couple of bites of rice to hide her embarrassment.

Just then, Liu Yingqiu turned back to look at her. The rice in Yuexin’s container was dry, with no vegetables at all.

“What, you’re too stingy to eat the dishes? There should be plenty, I think.”

Yuexin glanced awkwardly down at her own lunch box, then at the nearly untouched dishes on the table.

She let out a helpless laugh.

“How could I be stingy? I was just having a couple bites of rice to settle my stomach.”

Before Yuexin could pick up her chopsticks, Liu Yingqiu was already placing dishes on her rice.

“Sweet and sour pork ribs—your favorite. I specifically told the chef not to put too much vinegar.”

Yuexin looked in surprise at the fragrant piece of rib in her bowl, still steaming hot.

Her gaze drifted to Liu Yingqiu’s smiling face, those red eyes filled only with gentleness.

She really did prefer the sweeter sweet and sour pork ribs—her tastes were the same in both lives.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Are you a tapeworm in my stomach?”

Liu Yingqiu let out a light laugh.

“Of course not. Isn’t that just how you like to eat it? Back in high school, when we went out to order food together, that’s what you ordered.”

“Did… did I?”

Cheng Yuexin quickly flipped through her memories but had no impression at all.

“You did. It’s normal if you forgot—it’s been two years since then.”

Liu Yingqiu didn’t care whether Yuexin remembered or not; from her reaction, she’d probably forgotten anyway.

But as long as she herself remembered what Yuexin liked to eat, that was enough.

Cheng Yueqing watched the two of them talking, a smile lingering on her face that was hard to describe.

This time, their conversation didn’t draw Yuexin’s attention; she just ate quietly.

Listening to their lively exchange, Yuexin’s meal tasted even better.

Yueqing felt the same way. With Liu Yingqiu feeding her congee, her appetite had improved.

Satisfied, Yueqing leaned against the headboard, resting her hand on her slightly full belly.

“Eating so slow, waiting for me on purpose?”

“Then you’d have nothing left.”

“If it’s all gone, then it’s gone. I can just buy another serving of dishes. No need to be so polite.”

Cheng Yuexin said seriously.

“You bought all the food and dishes. If I finish everything and you get nothing, I’d feel bad.”

Liu Yingqiu gently stroked her head, her fingers threading through the soft strands, leaving a trace of warmth behind.

She picked up her own portion and started eating.

Watching them from the side, Cheng Yueqing’s smile grew even deeper.
