Duoluolisi channeled power into the sword, feeling her blood and mana being drained by the blade in her hand.
“Mmm~”
She let out a soft moan.
The sensation felt like someone had inserted a straw into her, continuously sucking her blood, making her extremely uncomfortable.
“Not bad, little girl, to be able to take a palm strike from me. I was worried I might slap you to death.”
The vampire retracted his blood hand into his sleeve, grinning mockingly.
“I would be really upset if I accidentally killed a sacrifice.”
He had indeed held back a bit on that palm strike, afraid of damaging the sacrifice.
If he killed this white-haired girl, he still had the brown-haired one for use, but an extra sacrifice meant an extra chance at resurrection.
“Just surrender obediently, and you’ll spare yourself some physical pain.”
The vampire urged again.
Duoluolisi felt the energy accumulating in the holy sword, made a quick estimate, and stopped charging.
‘Almost there. The power now should be enough to cut through those blood hands.’
She had already consumed two-thirds of her remaining mana, and a considerable amount of blood had been drained.
Her head was a bit dizzy.
If the draining continued, she would faint.
“What if I don’t, Mr. Vampire?”
She lifted her head, a smirk curling at the corner of her mouth.
“Hmph. Seems like I’ll have to cripple you before you’ll comply!”
A fierce gleam flashed in the vampire’s eyes, and the blood hand on his chest swatted at Duoluolisi again.
But this time, she didn’t block.
Instead, she swung her sword fiercely at the blood hand.
A red flash streaked through the air, and the blood hand was cleaved in two, dissolving into a cloud of blood mist.
Then the mist was absorbed by the holy sword.
Duoluolisi felt a warm current surge back into her body.
Her expended mana recovered a little, and the dizziness seemed to ease slightly.
“What?”
The vampire was astonished.
How had this white-haired girl suddenly managed to cut through his blood hand?
He refused to believe it and extended several more blood hands, but each was slashed into mist by Duoluolisi and absorbed by the holy sword.
Duoluolisi glanced at the sword that was absorbing the blood mist.
‘This Level 2 [Bloodthirst] feels much stronger than Level 1. When I faced those blood fowl earlier, the Level 1 [Bloodthirst] didn’t even register the sucking sensation. Now that I’ve reached Level 2, even though the absorption is still small, I can clearly feel the blood being drained.’
‘Now this is what I call bloodsucking.’
Her gaze fell on the writhing blood hands beneath the vampire’s sleeve, and she couldn’t help licking her lips.
In her eyes, those blood hands had turned into blood packs.
‘Come on, come on, give me more. I can’t wait.’
Duoluolisi shook the blood mist off her sword, a slight smile curving upward into a provocative, wicked grin.
“Mr. Vampire, please do send more blood hands my way. This much isn’t nearly enough to cut!”
“You asked for this!”
The vampire grew irritated at her smile.
He thrust both arms forward, and all the blood hands inside his sleeves shot out like crimson vipers toward Duoluolisi.
She didn’t indulge in the pleasure of recovery but instead channeled the absorbed state back into the holy sword, continuously raising its attack power.
Now she could sever blood hands with ease.
Still, she chose to avoid them as much as possible.
There were too many blood hands to be careless.
She had only increased her attack power; her body still couldn’t withstand them head-on.
An overwhelming swarm of blood hands surrounded Duoluolisi, striking at her ferociously.
But she had already mastered their attack patterns.
She moved like a dragon, weaving through the gaps between them.
She sidestepped a swipe, spun to avoid another’s grasp, then used her momentum to leap, stepping on the back of a blood hand, flipping midair, and slashing apart several blood hands that were crashing down from above.
Each severed blood hand turned into mist and was absorbed by the holy sword, becoming the power for her next swing.
Gradually, the blood hands dwindled.
The sky, once blotted out by them, grew sparse, and soon Duoluolisi had cut down every last one.
“This… this is impossible!”
The vampire’s expression shifted from anger to surprise, then to disbelief.
Just moments ago, this white-haired girl couldn’t even scratch his blood hands.
How could she now have cut them all down?
“What did you do?”
“Hehe~”
In the face of the vampire’s shock, Duoluolisi only let out a light laugh.
‘You think you’re the only one with Demon God Power? Didn’t expect me to have it too, did you?’
She landed lightly, raised the holy sword glowing red, and aimed it at the vampire.
“Mr. Vampire, you’ve attacked for so long. Isn’t it my turn now?”
“!”
Before the vampire could react, Duoluolisi lunged forward and struck him in the chest with her sword.
“Ahhh!!!”
Blood gushed from the vampire’s chest.
He staggered backward from the blow, clutching the wound with both hands.
“Damnit, aaah!”
The vampire’s eyes instantly turned bloodshot, his face twisted into a hideous sneer.
“I’ve changed my mind! Since there’s still one sacrifice left, you have to die!”
Ignoring the blood spurting from his chest, he wildly waved both arms, unleashing a frenzy of blood magic.
All his blood blades, blood needles, and blood spheres—he hurled them at Duoluolisi without reservation, as if trying to empty all the mana in his body.
Duoluolisi prepared to parry, but she noticed the attacks seemed to land around her like a storm of misses.
Only a few blood blades flew toward her.
‘What’s going on? Is he just flailing?’
“Why are you stopping me? Why do you stop me?!”
The vampire didn’t care whether he hit.
He seemed insane, shouting as he kept throwing.
“Do you understand my pain?! Have you ever felt the agony of watching your beloved get infected, listening to her wail in torment every day?!”
A blood blade grazed Duoluolisi’s ear, the wind lifting the hair at her temple.
“Have you ever felt the pain of seeing your lover imprisoned and being powerless to do anything?!”
Several blood needles embedded themselves in the soil at Duoluolisi’s feet, kicking up a puff of dirt.
“Have you ever felt the despair of finally seeing hope, only to be betrayed by your own brother?!”
A blood sphere exploded behind Duoluolisi, sending up a gust of crimson wind.
She stood silently, watching him empty his barrage, saying nothing.
“Have you… have you felt it…”
After an unknown amount of time, the vampire stopped attacking, seemingly exhausted.
His arms hung limply, he bent over, panting heavily.
None of his attacks had managed to touch Duoluolisi.
He was never a mage, just an ordinary man turned into a vampire.
He had never studied magic, and no one had taught him how to fight.
He could only throw magic haphazardly, venting his rage impotently.
Seeing the vampire calm down, Duoluolisi lowered her sword and leaned it against her side.
‘Done venting?’
Her state wasn’t great either.
Though [Bloodthirst] had recovered a bit, it couldn’t fully compensate for the blood loss and mana depletion from [Blood Sacrifice].
If the fight continued, she might collapse before the vampire did.
But this vampire was different from other low-level vampires.
Infected, he still retained some sanity.
Everything he did was to resurrect Wei Luo, and there was still room for communication.
“Mr. Kang Na.”
She looked at the panting vampire and spoke softly.
“Huff… huff… You…”
The vampire lifted his head slowly to stare at her when he heard his name suddenly spoken.
“I know you’ve lost your beloved wife and would do anything to bring her back. But to achieve that goal, you collected blood to sacrifice to the Demon God and harmed innocent people…”
“Harmed innocent people? Are you talking about those villagers? Or Jack? They all deserved to die! They killed Wei Luo…”
He became agitated again but was cut off by Duoluolisi.
“I told you, I’ve read your diary and I know everything that happened. I can understand your hatred for them. But I think you’ve misunderstood me. I’m referring to what you wanted to do to her—to Miss Dailina.”
Duoluolisi pointed at Dailina, who was hiding behind the bushes.
Dailina peeked out nervously, her eyes full of tension.
After Duoluolisi gave a slight nod, she emerged from the bushes and walked over to her.
“Miss Dailina is a student from the Royal Capital Academy. She came here only to complete a commission, right?”
Duoluolisi glanced at Dailina, who nodded.
Students from Thorn Academy mostly went out on commissions.
Duoluolisi wasn’t worried that saying this would expose anything.
“Before this, she had no idea who you were, let alone your wife. She never harmed you, nor did she do anything wrong. Yet because she met the conditions for a sacrifice, you wanted to capture her and use her to revive your wife.”
Duoluolisi met the vampire’s eyes, a flash of anger in her gaze.
“You say we don’t understand your pain. But have you ever understood others? What you’re doing to her—isn’t that even worse than what the people you hate did?”
“No, I didn’t…”
The vampire was choked by her words, unable to respond.
He had indeed targeted this innocent brown-haired girl as a sacrifice.
“Besides, your wife was already infected back then. I don’t know exactly what the villagers did to her, but their wanting to quarantine her wasn’t wrong. The infection spreads. If left unchecked, more people would become vampires, and more families would lose loved ones just like you.”
“So what?!”
The vampire shouted.
“Wei Luo was only scratched! She didn’t deserve to be burned alive! I had already found a way to cure her—just go to the city and find those mages…”
“So you wanted the entire village to take a risk for your wife?”
Duoluolisi cut him off again.
“You may have found a method, but to them, an infected person is a ticking time bomb. What if Wei Luo lost control and bit another villager? Could you bear that responsibility? Besides, if you took an infected person to the city, would the guards let you in? Would they risk the whole city becoming infected just to let your wife pass?”
“I…”
The vampire lowered his head, seeming to realize how excessive his actions had been.
“You’ve been completely blinded by hatred.”
Duoluolisi said coldly.
