“Spring break is here!”
On the first day of spring break, the sun was nice.
The trio hung out as usual, but they were wearing casual clothes.
Kazama Yin wore a male student uniform from the Taisho period, a cape hanging from his neck, and a kendo sword at his waist.
Anyone who didn’t know him might think he was cosplaying from some anime.
Kagegaya Tsubaki was dressed in a droopy-eyed girl outfit, her black skirt covered in various accessories.
She wore a black mask on her face, tied her hair into twin tails, and had thick-soled shoes on her feet.
Hanyu Suoluo looked at the two who were “all dressed up,” then glanced down at his own black hoodie and jeans, twitching the corner of his mouth. “You two…”
“Don’t step into the frame when I’m taking pictures, Sororo-chan.” Kagegaya Tsubaki narrowed her eyes and shook her phone.
“Who wants to be photographed?!”
As the three chatted, they passed by a newly opened bakery.
The sweet, cloying aroma wafted out, making all three of them sniff the air.
“Want to go in and look?” Kagegaya Tsubaki pointed at the macarons in the display case, her eyes sparkling.
The three pushed open the door and entered. The fragrant scent hit them like a punch to the nose.
“Welcome.” A young girl with purple hair, not very old, was arranging bread inside.
She gave a slight bow upon seeing the customers.
Kagegaya Tsubaki picked up a macaron, her crimson eyes full of little stars. “So cute…”
Hanyu Suoluo’s gaze locked onto a scallion, pork floss, and ham toast loaf.
Staring at its speckled appearance, he smacked his lips. “This one looks super appetizing!”
Kagegaya Tsubaki elbowed Kazama Yin, who was spacing out beside her. “Kazama, isn’t there any bread you like?”
“Ah… this…” Kazama Yin’s eyes darted back and forth among the various bread products.
Finally, his gaze settled on a tray of bread. He swallowed, reached out, and grabbed one along with the oil-absorbing paper underneath.
“Huh? Pineapple bun? How old-fashioned, Kazama…” Kagegaya Tsubaki mercilessly teased him.
“Pineapple bun… is also Missy’s favorite.” Hattori Yumeko’s voice suddenly rang out in Kazama Yin’s mind.
“Missy?”
Kazama Yin was slightly stunned, as if he had momentarily fallen into a daze.
“What’s wrong?” Hanyu Suoluo looked over.
“No… nothing!” Kazama Yin quickly shook his head, lowered it, and hurried to the cashier, shoving the bread over.
As Kazama Yin pulled out money, Kagegaya Tsubaki leaned in. “Hey, did you just mutter ‘Missy’?”
“No.” Kazama Yin flatly denied it, paid, grabbed the bag, and walked out.
“Hey! Wait for us!”
Kagegaya Tsubaki and Hanyu Suoluo quickly paid and followed him out.
“Miss Yumeko, that ‘Missy’ you mentioned… is…” Kazama Yin inquired in his mind.
“Missy is Missy. She’s our DRG’s Missy. It’s just… she left Japan a long time ago to go fight in the Euro-African War.”
Hattori Yumeko’s voice dropped a little. “The materials about the Euro-African War that Kazama looked at yesterday… the ‘Pale Gray Witch’ definitely must be Missy… I never thought… she also…”
“Boo hoo… Missy…”
The eerie crying was a bit frightening. Kazama Yin didn’t dare ask anything more for the time being.
Last night, he had already been tortured by these cries, to the point that he had developed the ability to fall asleep through the sound of weeping.
Taking a bite of the pineapple bun in his hand, Kazama Yin looked up and suddenly saw a familiar person through the glass of a nearby convenience store.
A person wearing a clerk’s apron, with long black hair tied back into a ponytail, was restocking shelves.
It was that older brother from the Amuro family… right?
Except now, Amuro-niisan looked much better mentally.
“Ah!” Miss Yumeko, who had just stopped crying in his mind, suddenly exclaimed in surprise. “Yuki-kun…”
Huh? Yuki-kun?
Kazama Yin didn’t understand, but Miss Yumeko urged him to go see “Yuki-kun.”
Under the puzzled gazes of the other two, Kazama Yin changed course and headed toward the convenience store.
“What’s up? Buying a drink?”
“Welcome.”
Yuki Asahi heard the commotion at the door, put down the merchandise samples, and returned to the cash register.
When he saw the three of them, there was no surprise in Yuki Asahi’s gaze, but it lingered on Kazama Yin a little longer.
Those dull, golden pupils—Kazama Yin couldn’t see through them.
“Um.”
Kazama Yin held the pineapple bun in one hand, grabbed a chocolate bar from beside the register with the other, and set it down as he asked, “Excuse me, are you ‘Yuki-kun’?”
Yuki Asahi was silent for a moment. He looked down at the name tag on his chest that read “Anshi Xu,” then spoke flatly. “Will that be all, sir? That’ll be…”
“He’s Yuki-kun!”
Hattori Yumeko’s voice was barely containing her excitement. “Ask him if he has any news about Missy!”
“Do you have any news about Missy…”
Kazama Yin unconsciously repeated the exact words out loud.
Then he saw the young man in front of him turn his face toward the street, expressionless.
The silence lasted for about five or six seconds.
Kagegaya Tsubaki tugged at Kazama Yin’s sleeve behind him and whispered, “What are you doing, Kazama! Don’t cause trouble for others.”
To her surprise, Hanyu Suoluo stopped her, his voice trembling slightly. “Don’t talk yet.”
Yuki… black hair, golden eyes… could it be…
Yuki Asahi slowly withdrew his gaze, then scanned the chocolate bar with the barcode reader.
“If you’re curious, can you wait until I get off work?”
Yuki Asahi’s voice was relatively calm as he looked up at Kazama Yin. “I have something more important to do.”
“Ah… sorry.” Kazama Yin’s face showed some embarrassment.
Hattori Yumeko’s voice was a bit dejected. “Yuki-kun… how did he become like this?”
After that, she gave no further instructions. Kazama Yin had no choice but to pay, grab the chocolate, and hastily flee with his two companions.
“Hey! I’m telling you, Kazama, have you lost your mind? You were acting so weird…”
Kagegaya Tsubaki seemed to realize something herself and suddenly looked up. “Ah, could it be… Miss Yumeko?”
“Yeah.” Kazama Yin stuffed the last of the pineapple bun into his mouth, then felt a little thirsty.
He kind of regretted not buying a drink along with it. Going back would be… a bit awkward.
“That person… is he really Yuki?” Hanyu Suoluo pressed his nose bridge, his pupils trembling.
“What’s wrong? What about Yuki?” Kagegaya Tsubaki shook her head from side to side.
“Don’t you know?” Hanyu Suoluo looked at Kagegaya Tsubaki in shock. “Aren’t you a student at Tokiwagi High School?”
“Huh? Is this matter so serious that not knowing it would get me expelled?”
Kazama Yin snapped back to reality and whipped his head around. “Yuki? That… Yuki?”
“Yeah, Yuki Asahi. Also black hair, golden eyes.”
Hanyu Suoluo’s calves were trembling slightly, the result of excitement at meeting an ultimate idol. “Miss Yumeko told you, right? It fits. Senior Yuki is said to have some connection to DRG too.”
“Huh? He’s that famous? Why haven’t I heard of him?” Kagegaya Tsubaki scratched her head.
“This is a secret known only to… true fans of the Supernatural Club.”
Hanyu Suoluo clenched his fists. “You’ve seen the bulletin board at the old site of the Supernatural Department, right? Senior Yuki was involved in every single incident listed there.”
“But!”
“That’s just a legend.” Kazama Yin opened his mouth and added just in time.
“All records related to Senior Yuki have been erased. It’s said that after personally experiencing the Superpower Panic Incident, he became terrified of fame.”
“So after that, the government intervened to ban the spread of all records about him, old and new alike.”
“The only legends about Senior Yuki that remain are passed down by word of mouth, and their credibility isn’t very high.”
“The legend is real.” Hattori Yumeko suddenly spoke up. “At least before I died, Yuki Asahi was the most shining star of that era.”
“You all experienced it too, that Time Distortion.”
Hattori Yumeko said softly, “It was terrifying, how time fell into chaos. The hero of the past has become like that, and no one remembers…”
“Well, we were lucky. Our lives weren’t skipped. It’s just that the memories before we were fourteen now feel like memories from over twenty years ago.”
Some unlucky people, just after being born, became shockingly old, on the verge of death.
Of course, there were also lucky people who could start their lives over again.
“Anyway, please visit the Amuro residence again in the future. If Yuki-kun has news about Missy, then he should also have news about Uncle Hanyu!”
A smile bloomed on Kazama Yin’s face as he quickly told this to Hanyu Suoluo.
“That’s great.”
Hanyu Suoluo, who had been feeling down because Miss Yumeko didn’t know anything and that lead had been blocked, cheered up again.
Wait for me, Uncle!
Father, I will definitely bring Uncle Xingshu back!
Just then, a man in a trench coat on the street approached the trio. He pointed at Kazama Yin. “That… that’s a Taisho period student uniform, right?”
The trench coat man’s face was somewhat pale, and his green eyes flickered with a strange light.
“Ah… yeah.” Kazama Yin took half a step back. His hand rested loosely on the hilt of his sword, but every muscle in his body was already tensed for a sudden burst of action.
“Good, good.”
The man let out a dry laugh and looked at his sword. “Young man, you seem to yearn for ‘propriety.’ How about learning more…”
The trench coat man pulled a piece of paper from his pocket and quickly slapped it onto Kazama Yin’s chest.
Then he licked his chapped lips. “We look forward to a promising young man like you joining…”
Kazama Yin looked down. The first thing he saw was a large golden chrysanthemum emblem.
