Monday lunchtime, Erika and Emil had a quick bite at the Academy Restaurant.
Seeing the Great Lady, a noble’s daughter, order a fried pork cutlet set worth thirty Star Coins, the young girl found it quite novel.
“Hmm…” In fact, she hadn’t taken a single bite, just sitting there lost in thought.
Cielciel, sitting beside her, spoke up first. “If you’re not going to eat it, can I have it…?”
In front of Cielciel was only a bowl of bean sprout and lean meat porridge worth ten Star Coins. Clearly, this amount was far from enough for her, a hardworking teaching assistant.
“If you’re not eating it, then let Cielciel help you finish it…!”
Emil at this moment was like someone on a phone call. According to the Phone Call First Law, no matter what you give her now, she’ll take it; and the Second Law was currently applicable, whatever you say, she’ll first respond with ‘uh-huh, yeah’.
The Phone Call Third Law would probably kick in later.
After receiving permission, Cielciel finally happily moved the fried pork cutlet set from in front of the Big Guy to her own spot, then began devouring it ravenously.
Watching this scene, Erika couldn’t help but feel puzzled. “Cielciel, didn’t I give you all the meal vouchers and the two thousand Star Coins I snatched from Bond earlier? How come you still can’t afford a proper meal?”
“That’s saved up for a rainy day…!”
To think she had such a strong sense of financial management?
“But to make my tail grow back, I need to replenish a lot of nutrients…!” Hearing Cielciel’s words, Erika glanced down at the tail wand wrapped around her wrist. She really didn’t know how her own secretary had come up with the idea of tearing off her own tail to give to her.
“This fried pork cutlet really suits our Succubus palate, it’s absolutely delicious… cheap, tastes great, very hao chi…”
Watching Cielciel enjoy the thirty-Star-Coin pork cutlet set with a moved expression as if savoring wagyu beef, Erika couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty and uneasy.
With a desire to do something to make it up to her, the young girl picked up the two remaining dumplings from her plate and gave them to Cielciel. “Try these too.”
“Comrade’s heart is truly broad…! Willing to share food…! Truly a model for the Order…!”
Perhaps disturbed by Cielciel’s noisy chatter, the Big Guy, who had been deep in thought, suddenly frowned. “Too loud! I can’t concentrate at all. Where did this Succubus come from? Why is she here?”
“I am Cielciel Xiernuoyi!”
“Xie what? Erika, who is this person? Why is she eating with us?”
It seemed this was the Big Guy’s first time meeting Cielciel. Well, that made sense, as Cielciel’s joining was witnessed with Evelyn present.
…
But how to explain this to the Big Guy was a bit of a dilemma for the young girl.
“She, well, is kind of my intern.” The casual, evasive answer only made Emil look even more confused.
“What’s an intern?”
“An intern is a very excellent and cool thing! There’s afternoon tea time, and monthly leave…! Much better than being a teaching assistant…!”
“What are you talking about? Whatever, never mind. Speaking of which, where’s my food?”
Emil, having lowered her head, only now noticed the empty bowl in front of her. At that moment, Cielciel answered in a weak voice from the side. “That… I already ate it.”
“What? Who gave you permission to eat my food? Want a beating?”
“Wah…!”
Oh no, why does this feel so much like a family of three?
Cielciel trembled under the Big Guy’s roar, letting out a fairy-like shriek, her mouth still smeared with pork cutlet sauce.
Worried that her secretary might actually get beaten if this continued, Erika had no choice but to quickly interject. “Lady Emil said it was okay to eat.”
“Did I say that?”
“Yes, you probably don’t remember because you were thinking about something else.”
“I really said that?”
Phone Call Third Law: You forget everything except the phone call conversation itself.
So, Erika didn’t really recommend confessing to your crush while they were on the phone, even after learning the first two laws.
“What exactly were you thinking about?”
After class, she had quietly asked the absent-minded Big Guy. She could probably guess what it was about. Probably thinking about the Suburban Undead Disturbance and that evil Necromancer the students were all buzzing about.
“Still bothered by what those people are saying?”
“Hmph, what would I be bothered by?”
“That evil Necromancer. The one who can control high-level Liches.”
The Big Guy didn’t immediately deny her words. She looked around, then leaned in close and whispered a few words.
“Do you think so too?”
“What?”
“Miona Drako. Do you also believe that guy is wandering the outskirts, digging up graves and stealing corpses, attacking humans and turning them into undead?”
If it were before, she probably would have thought so too. After all, when it came to Necromancy and Black Magic, the Drake Family’s Great Lady was the most impressive, unmatched by any other student in the entire Academy.
A Necromancer capable of controlling high-level Liches? Anyone hearing that would immediately think of that young lady from the Drake Family, right?
But just a few days ago, Erika was invited to the Drako Mansion and carefully investigated the situation. She knew very well that Miona was actually a coward afraid of ghosts and skeletons.
Could this Miona Drako become an evil Necromancer? She wouldn’t believe it even if beaten to death!
“It’s not Miss Miona.”
“Then who else would do such a thing? Besides that brat Miona Drako, who else would commit such evil deeds?”
But faced with this question from the Big Guy, which didn’t sound much like a retort, the young girl was momentarily speechless. It seemed Emil was unaware of the existence of the Drake Family’s twin sister, Vivian.
The sisters couldn’t be the culprits, at least that’s what the young girl believed.
But public opinion is a formidable thing.
“Did you hear? Several citizens living in the suburbs were attacked by that Necromancer last night.”
“I heard too. They say they found the Dreco Family Crest on the victims?”
“Could that Necromancer be that Great Lady from Dreco? She’s on the odd-numbered Sequence, can come and go from the Academy freely, and I heard she’s been leaving the Academy every night recently.”
Rumors always spread faster than truth. The famous Great Lady of a prominent family on the continent had transformed into a murderous villain who attacked passersby every night and created vengeful spirits.
This idea floated like a ghost, lingering in everyone’s minds.
“I heard even a few Gold Rank students fell victim. Being able to succeed among those top one hundred geniuses in the Academy Sequence shows this person is one of the very best in the Ark.”
“That Dreco is Sequence Number 6. Killing them would be like slaughtering chickens for her.”
And the course of events so conveniently pushed Miona Drako into the spotlight, making it difficult to wash away the suspicion of being the evil Necromancer. After all, Dreco was already famous for its many secrets and creepy Curses.
But wasn’t it all too coincidental? It was as if someone was guiding public opinion… no, as if someone was manufacturing ‘evidence’, directing all accusations toward one target.
Erika wasn’t interested in those conspiracy theories, but she still felt indignant for those twin sisters who waited for sunrise every day in the dim mansion, yet were slandered by baseless rumors.
Insulting Noel’s great families was equivalent to insulting the Noel Kingdom. Insulting the Noel Kingdom meant insulting her—the Descendant of the Demon King, Erika, who would one day reclaim and rule everything.
“Well then, Cielciel will take her leave now, as it’s time for Professor Borbeck’s errand…!”
“Okay, see you next time.”
Waving goodbye to Cielciel, she then rose from her seat as well.
“Lady Emil, I have some matters to attend to as well, so I’ll take my leave.”
“Alright, I also have important business to handle.”
