“Do you think I can’t see it?”
Letia chuckled softly.
The spider that had been on the ceiling all along landed on the girl’s shoulder.
“Can’t deny, with this thing, I really don’t have to split my focus to guard against sneak attacks from behind.”
“Uh…”
The secretary tried to stand up, but the kick from Letia had nearly shattered her entire body, making it impossible to get up.
Although she was still alive, her injuries were certainly not light.
“Run!”
As a professional assassin, even in this state, the secretary intended to cover Nicholas’s retreat.
“The guards here have all been dealt with by her, this madwoman…”
“Don’t you dare slander me,” Letia shrugged.
“I don’t kill indiscriminately. At most, I just gave them a dose of the Grand Memory Erasure Spell.”
“And besides, do you really think you can run?”
It was then that Nicholas and his secretary noticed.
Outside the windows and the door, four or five large silver spiders were crouched, watching them with menacing eyes.
“However, considering you haven’t laid a hand on Red yet, I can give you one chance.”
Nicholas also realized the precariousness of his situation.
He took a deep breath and stood up calmly.
“I am a noble! I have my dignity and pride!”
Nicholas puffed out his chest, his gaze fixed directly on Letia.
“When I face an enemy I cannot defeat…”
Seeing the other party’s resolute and unyielding appearance, Letia couldn’t help but give him a thumbs-up.
“Quite the backbone…”
But before she could finish, Nicholas suddenly dropped to his knees with a thud.
“I choose to surrender!”
This world had no saying about a man’s pride being more precious than gold.
Even for nobles, knowing which way the wind blows was an essential skill to master.
So, seeing the other party use the most defiant voice to utter the most shameless words, while even performing a French military salute, Letia’s mouth twitched involuntarily.
“As long as you let me go, I can introduce you to countless beauties, any type you want, guaranteed to suit your taste…”
“Damn it, I’m a woman!”
Letia, who had almost forgotten about this matter, gritted her teeth in anger upon hearing this.
“Huh?”
Nicholas fell silent for a moment, letting out a disbelieving sound.
He scanned Letia from head to toe, then completely lost interest.
“So you’re not a little boy? Then where’s your older brother?”
“I (expletive)!”
Letia really wanted to kick Nicholas in the face, but she was afraid of dirtying her shoes.
“So… what do you intend for us to do?”
Nicholas, naturally sensing that Letia didn’t have much killing intent, continued, “We’ll do anything.”
“Is that so?”
Letia looked at him coldly, crossing her arms and speaking mercilessly.
“Leave Nightbright Town.”
“No, no, no… I can’t do that.”
Hearing this, Nicholas shook his head repeatedly.
“If I lose my position as the Adventurer Guild President, I’ll truly become a penniless commoner!”
“You can fight to regain power if you lose it, but if you lose your life…”
Letia interrupted him, her gaze icy as she looked at him.
“Then it’s truly gone. So, what’s your choice?”
Sweat dripped from Nicholas’s forehead.
“I… I’ll leave Nightbright Town tomorrow.”
“A wise choice.”
Letia’s expression changed as if flipping a switch.
The coldness in her eyes vanished instantly, and she simply patted Nicholas on the shoulder.
“I hope you keep your word. If I see you in Nightbright Town again… I wouldn’t mind burying someone in your backyard garden.”
After saying that, Letia left, leaving Nicholas and his secretary gasping for breath on the spot.
After recovering for quite a while, the secretary was the first to speak.
“Should we… report this to the police?”
Saying ‘report to the police’ actually meant reporting it to the Knight Order.
Things like police only existed in major cities like the Capital.
Nightbright Town didn’t have them.
Faced with his secretary’s suggestion, Nicholas gritted his teeth.
“No… Even if we report it, it won’t be of much use. Those mad dogs from the Holy Tribunal aren’t something ordinary people can handle.”
Nicholas knew very well.
If they told the Knight Order and failed to completely subdue her… the consequences would be utterly unimaginable.
“Then what should we do? We can’t really just leave Nightbright Town like this, can we?”
‘Making a comeback’ sounded easy, but both of them knew that once they fell from their current social stratum, it would be a point of no return.
Forget making a comeback; merely surviving would be a luxury.
How many nobles had fallen in competition, only to end up as vagrants on the streets?
Losing power, for a noble, was equivalent to losing their human rights.
Those at the bottom would trample on them without mercy.
Those who were once respectful and submissive would only add insult to injury.
Coupled with the loss of income sources… and the high cost of living in this country, it formed a vicious cycle akin to a whirlpool.
It simply offered no possibility for him to turn things around.
“Leave just like that?”
Nicholas revealed a sinister smile.
“You help me deliver those things to the Knight Order Captain. I believe he’ll know what to do… As for me, of course I’ll leave. But I am still the Adventurer Guild President. I’ll be back sooner or later.”
After handling the matter, Letia removed her disguise.
Anyone who’s done it knows that killing is simple, but hiding the body is incredibly difficult.
To be honest, if she were alone right now, Nicholas wouldn’t live through the night.
But unfortunately, she wasn’t alone.
And she didn’t want to cause any trouble for Red.
“Ah… In the end, I’ve become merciful too. If Otto knew, he’d probably laugh at me for a good while.”
As she spoke, Letia tried to use her Observation Ability.
However, what puzzled her was that the scene appearing in her mind hadn’t changed much.
It was still the same fiery hellscape.
“Did I get something wrong?”
Was the red-haired woman’s power so great that even the Knight Order plus the Adventurers couldn’t handle it?
Or was there some other variable at play?
Letia couldn’t quite figure it out.
She rubbed her aching head and finally let out a long sigh.
“This damn Observation Ability, can’t you be of some real use? At least tell me the reason, or what method I can use to change this outcome, okay?”
Ugh. I hate characters sparing villains like that. She couldn’t even hide her identity. This idiot guild master will now just make trouble for her.
