The Spiritual Moon High Sect is full of people who want to attach themselves to high-level cultivators, yet Lei Mulan said her ambitions lay elsewhere. This was the first female cultivator Mu Yanxi had met with a different goal.
“Hm? Then what kind of club do you want to join?” Mu Yanxi asked curiously.
“My goal is to become a free and independent demon cultivator, not someone’s spirit beast. So I want to join a club focused entirely on cultivation,” Lei Mulan said.
Mu Yanxi was a little surprised. She hadn’t expected that within the Spiritual Moon High Sect, there would be female cultivators who pursued independent cultivation rather than relying on powerful figures—just like herself.
But after thinking it over, she understood. Demon cultivators in the Spiritual Moon High Sect were different from disciples of other races.
Some of them had been specially recruited and then awakened—meaning they had only recently gained intelligence. Lei Mulan was exactly this type of demon cultivator.
Female cultivators of other races already fully understood what kind of academy this was when they applied, and what kind of sect the Spiritual Moon Palace was.
In other words, they had come with the mindset of attaching themselves to powerful cultivators and had long accepted the sect’s philosophy.
Demon cultivators, however, were different. They were directly recruited into the Spiritual Moon High Sect after awakening, not by choice.
They hadn’t truly experienced the world or formed stable values yet, so it was only natural for them to still yearn for freedom.
In that sense, they were quite similar to Mu Yanxi.
“Does the Spiritual Moon High Sect even have clubs focused on proper cultivation?” Mu Yanxi immediately asked.
“Lots of them. They’re just not very popular, so their booths aren’t as eye-catching. Most of them are located further inside,” Lei Mulan explained.
“You seem to know quite a lot about the Spiritual Moon High Sect,” Mu Yanxi said. She had only gained intelligence recently—logically, she shouldn’t know this much.
“We demon cultivators awaken one or two months in advance, and senior demon cultivators in the sect teach us basic knowledge.”
“The senior sisters also share a lot of tips about the High Sect, like which clubs to avoid—some of them are pretty, like the model play club,” Lei Mulan said.
“I see. Can you take me to look at those cultivation-focused clubs?” Mu Yanxi asked.
Lei Mulan nodded readily. “Of course. Follow me.”
This wolf demon was easygoing, straightforward, and warm, leaving a very good impression on Mu Yanxi.
And as Lei Mulan walked ahead, her fluffy tail swayed back and forth, making Mu Yanxi constantly resist the urge to reach out and touch it.
“Come to think of it, most demon cultivators retain some beast-like traits. And… how should I put it? They all feel pretty cute,” Mu Yanxi said, making conversation as they walked.
“That’s something the teachers intentionally left us with. The Spiritual Moon High Sect actually has the ability to let us fully transform into human form, but the teachers said keeping some beast features adds character and makes us more appealing,” Lei Mulan explained.
Appealing? Mu Yanxi had never heard that term before, so she looked it up on the Dao web. It turned out to mean something charming or cute—clearly designed to enhance attractiveness.
“Your double cultivation partner is Hai Lingxue, right? How did things go with her last night?” Mu Yanxi asked again.
That artifact spirit girl had seemed prickly in both expression and tone, as if she’d be difficult to get along with. Living closely with someone like that might be exhausting.
“Lingxue? She’s a very friendly girl. We talked about a lot of things last night. She knows a lot, and she doesn’t discriminate against me at all,” Lei Mulan said.
Friendly? I really didn’t see that at all, Mu Yanxi thought to herself. But since Lei Mulan was already calling her Lingxue, they must be getting along quite well.
It was hard to tell whether it was because this slightly absent-minded wolf demon was just easygoing, or because Lingxue at least maintained a friendly relationship with her partner.
After passing through the bustling booths, the stalls ahead became much less crowded. The new disciples hadn’t reached this area yet, but each booth here had its own unique style.
The first one they came across was covered in calligraphy and paintings. The senior sisters at the booth all appeared refined and scholarly, exuding a calm, bookish elegance that made them seem both intelligent and gentle.
“Welcome to the Poetry and Calligraphy Interest Group. Others carry treasured swords; I wield a pen like a blade. Talented literary ladies are sought after by gentlemen.
Come study poetry and calligraphy with us—cultivate your temperament while nurturing righteous energy. A unique scholarly aura will make you more competitive,” said a bespectacled senior.
“Confucian cultivators?” Mu Yanxi recognized that distinctive presence. Only Confucian cultivators who regularly studied classics and composed poetry possessed such righteous energy.
They typically had high comprehension and strong combat abilities, though the threshold for cultivation was extremely high and the process very complicated.
“The Poetry and Calligraphy Interest Group has the most Confucian cultivators. Most of them in the Spiritual Moon High Sect join this club. But even if you’re not one, you can still come to learn calligraphy or poetry,” Lei Mulan explained.
Mu Yanxi could tell that not everyone at the booth was a Confucian cultivator.
Some merely practiced Confucian techniques as a secondary path, while others were just ordinary cultivators who had studied a bit of poetry and calligraphy.
That made sense. Truly accomplished Confucian cultivators would have already gone to specialized sects like the White Crane Academy.
Those with lesser achievements could choose other sects—there was no need for them to come to the Spiritual Moon High Sect.
As the senior had said, their study of poetry and calligraphy was mainly to cultivate temperament and enhance their appeal to male cultivators—still aligned with the sect’s core philosophy.
Even the name of the club was interesting. The Poetry and Calligraphy Interest Group covered a wide range of topics, yet the core Confucian classics were not part of its curriculum.
It was clear that there weren’t many Confucian cultivators here, so this club had to attract those interested in dabbling in Confucian arts as well as non-Confucian disciples.
Still, just as Lei Mulan had said, this was a club focused on personal cultivation rather than serving high-level cultivators.
Although the senior framed it as improving charm and appeal, Mu Yanxi understood—without saying it that way, they probably wouldn’t recruit many new members at all.
Since very few new disciples had made it this far, most still lingering at the earlier booths, Mu Yanxi and Lei Mulan stood out as they arrived so quickly.
The senior sister spotted them and waved enthusiastically.
“Junior sisters, would you like to try our Poetry and Calligraphy Interest Group? Even if you’ve never studied poetry or calligraphy before, that’s perfectly fine—I’ll guide you.”
