After refusing Natalie’s demand, Emily once again waited for her death.
“Hahaha, I can only say you truly are the legendary Saintess!”
At that moment, what responded to Emily was not death, but Natalie’s laughter.
It made Emily even more confused about what the Demon King in front of her was trying to do.
“I’ll ask you one more time. Are you truly unwilling to become mine?”
“Of course! You are the Demon King, and I am the Saintess! We are naturally — irreconcilable. How could I ever become yours!”
“You talk a big game, yet you’re clearly trembling with fear.”
Emily couldn’t find a single word to refute Natalie’s jab.
Although she tried her best to suppress her fear, her body couldn’t stop shaking uncontrollably.
In fact, if she hadn’t been holding back with all her might, she would have already experienced firsthand what it felt like to wet herself from terror.
“Originally, I didn’t plan on using force! But since you refuse so stubbornly, you only have yourself to blame.”
“Demon King, what are you going to do?”
Natalie’s sudden, dangerous words caused Emily to instinctively shuffle her body away.
But Natalie grabbed Emily’s shoulders directly, forcing her to a halt.
Even though Emily struggled with all her strength, the power gap between them was too vast.
Her resistance was futile, leaving her at Natalie’s mercy.
“Saintess, you’ve misunderstood one thing. What I said just now wasn’t a request for your consent — it was an announcement! For an agent of God like you, death is merely a way to go meet your deity. That is why I won’t let you die!”
Hearing Natalie’s declaration, Emily swallowed hard.
After all, she didn’t know if Natalie meant she would endlessly torture her, making her wish for death.
If that were the case, Emily wished Natalie would just kill her right now!
Between one moment of pain and a lifetime of suffering, any sane person would choose the former.
“First, let’s make it so you cannot resist my orders.”
Along with Natalie’s words, a magic circle expanded with Emily at the center.
“This magic circle is — !”
Looking at the patterns of the magic circle on the ground, Emily instantly recognized what this spell was! When she became the Saintess, God had forcibly instilled a great deal of magical knowledge into her head, which included information about this very spell.
“Oh? You’re a Saintess, yet you know slave magic? Don’t tell me you’re someone who secretly enjoys collecting slaves? It seems you aren’t quite as pure as I thought.”
Although she wanted to argue, Emily was too panicked to find the strength.
Once the slave magic was applied, Emily would have to obey Natalie’s every command for the rest of her life.
Even if Natalie ordered her to take her own life, her body would react instantly.
Emily would become a beautiful puppet — one with self-awareness, but no control over her own body!
Because this spell was so taboo, humans had long ago classified it as forbidden magic.
Anyone discovered using it would be executed immediately; they would never allow someone capable of such dangerous magic to live.
While this magic could provide kings or nobles with absolutely obedient shadow warriors or allow them to enslave anyone they desired or hated, at the same time, no one wanted such a thing to happen to themselves.
If a king became someone’s slave, the entire kingdom would fall into chaos.
There were other ways to train shadow warriors or seek revenge; there was no need to take such a risk by letting this dangerous magic exist in the world.
This was why Natalie remarked that Emily wasn’t so pure after discovering she knew of the spell.
A normal person wouldn’t have even heard of it.
But just as the magic was being etched bit by bit into Emily’s body, the magic circle shattered without warning.
This sudden development left Natalie looking a bit embarrassed.
Originally, she truly believed this spell was 100 percent guaranteed to work on Emily.
If the magic succeeded, Emily would physically become her property!
But now it had suddenly failed.
To save face, Natalie quickly feigned composure and said, “It seems… that God’s divine protection over you is stronger than I imagined.”
After all, saying nothing after a failure would be peak awkwardness.
‘God’s protection, huh… That’s right. How could that control-freak God ever allow me to become someone else’s slave…’
Although she usually had many complaints about that deity, for this one time, Emily was truly grateful for the “protection.”
However, she also began to worry about what the Demon King would do to her next, now that the slave magic had proven ineffective.
As Emily was thinking that, the embarrassed Natalie stood up silently, acting as if what had just happened never occurred.
“Guards!”
Following Natalie’s call, several female soldiers entered the throne room.
“Take this Saintess to the prison! Saintess, don’t think you can relax just because my magic failed! Even if I can’t take the shortcut of magic, I have plenty of ways to make you obey me! I want to see just how long your faith in God can sustain you!”
“!”
Natalie’s words made Emily even more certain that she was going to be tortured!
She would use all kinds of cruelty to force her into submission!
If it were possible, Emily really wanted to just surrender and become Natalie’s slave! But for the same reason — God’s warning — Emily could only grit her teeth and endure!
And so, Emily was dragged away to the prison by the female soldiers.
Watching the soldiers drag Emily away, Natalie wore an expression of frustration.
According to her original plan, Emily would have become hers once the slave magic succeeded.
But now that her confident spell had failed, she had to find other ways to turn Emily into her slave.
Considering Emily’s strong faith, Natalie didn’t even know how long it would take to successfully “domesticate” her.
Thinking of this, Natalie felt a strange sense of impatience.
Her current mindset was like someone who had spent a fortune online to buy something they coveted, only to receive a call saying it was sent to the wrong place!
They would have to wait even longer to finally get their hands on it!
