Outside Novice Village No. 001,
[Forest of Rebirth]
“Phew, that’s a relief—the Large Hannya hasn’t appeared yet.”
Luo Taozhi hurried toward the village exit as soon as she logged in. Seeing that the village remained the same as when she logged off, she breathed a sigh of relief.
As an ultra-large-scale MMORPG, it was naturally impossible for Xushi to stop the passage of time just for Luo Taozhi.
The boss that spawned at set times in the village, the Large Hannya, wouldn’t wait specifically for Luo Taozhi to log in before refreshing.
According to Priestess Granny’s words before Luo Taozhi logged off, the Large Hannya’s spawn time was Zishi, which meant between 11:00 PM and 12:00 AM.
However, Luo Taozhi and Xiao Nanchu had been delayed for too long on their way back, so it was already 11:00 PM when they returned. By the time Luo Taozhi logged back in, it was already a few minutes past 11:00 PM.
“Benefactor? Why are you out? Are you awake? You could have rested a bit longer,” Yoshimura Umeko asked quickly upon seeing Luo Taozhi walk out of the small hut.
“Yes, Umeko and I can handle things here,” Priestess Granny also smiled at Luo Taozhi, indicating she could rest more.
“It’s fine, I’ve rested enough.”
Luo Taozhi shook her head. Then, she sat down in the center of the village with Yoshimura Umeko and Priestess Granny to wait for the Large Hannya’s appearance.
Out of boredom, Luo Taozhi opened the player Level Leaderboard to take a look.
This look startled her. In the few hours she had been offline, people had already overtaken her level.
[Level Leaderboard]
1st Place: [Tiger Regiment Leader] Level 7
2nd Place: [Li Dong] Level 6
3rd Place: [Xiao Taozhi] Level 6
4th Place: [Left Hand High Damage, Right Hand High Damage] Level 6
5th Place: [Woshuobaile] Level 5
6th Place: [Upstairs Don’t Look] Level 5
7th Place: [Bibilabu] Level 5
In just a short while, Tiger Regiment Leader and Li Dong had both surpassed her level.
It made sense. Over several hours, even with the experience point reduction from party kills, their leveling speed wouldn’t be too slow.
However, Luo Taozhi wasn’t in a hurry.
Yoshimura Umeko was still with her. No matter how much others leveled up, they couldn’t possibly accept this quest.
Once she killed this boss and completed the quest chain, her level would naturally catch up.
‘But watching others level up while I just sit here is a pretty annoying feeling…’
Luo Taozhi’s fingertip traced lines on the ground, forming unknown symbols that lacked any obvious meaning.
This was a habit Luo Taozhi had developed in Another World; whenever she was frustrated, she liked to do something with her hands.
Sometimes she would fiddle with the long sword in her hand, and other times she would draw scattered Array Runes on the ground. In short, when she was bored or irritable, she needed a task.
It was the same this time.
Fragmented Array Runes appeared one by one under her fingertip, only to be wiped away by Luo Taozhi just as they were nearing completion.
After repeating this an unknown number of times, a system notification sounded in her mind.
[**Warning: BOSS [Large Hannya] is about to appear**]
[**Warning: BOSS [Large Hannya] is about to appear**]
[**Warning…**]
Three warnings rang out consecutively. At the same time, shouts of surprise and scattered flickers of fire came from the southern part of the village.
It was the villagers’ arrows!
The boss had already engaged the villagers.
Luo Taozhi and Yoshimura Umeko exchanged a glance before rushing toward the south.
“SHIKIGAMI: SWIFT!”
Yoshimura Umeko pressed two fingers together. As she murmured, a paper charm glowing with green light appeared in her hand.
Luo Taozhi immediately felt her body become lighter. The distance between them, which had been widening because her Agility was lower than Yoshimura Umeko’s, was instantly closed.
Checking her status bar, an effect named [Shikigami: Swift] had appeared.
[Shikigami: Swift (5:00)]
Description: One of the basic skills of a Jujutsu Master. Increases speed (Agility increased).
To put it simply, it was a 5-minute speed buff.
However, the paper charms in Yoshimura Umeko’s hands continued to emit lights of other colors. As she spoke without pause, more and more buffs appeared on Luo Taozhi.
“SHIKIGAMI: POWER!”
“SHIKIGAMI: PROTECTION!”
“SHIKIGAMI: SOUL!”
Multicolored lights flashed over Luo Taozhi’s body as her status bar continued to fill.
Luo Taozhi looked at them one by one. Aside from [Shikigami: Swift], the other buffs were quite disappointing to her.
Power, Protection, and Soul simply increased attack, defense, and Mental Power. They were stats that already existed on the Attribute Panel, and the increase was minimal—only 2 points.
While better than nothing, they paled in comparison to the hidden Agility boost from Swift.
The village wasn’t large. During the time Yoshimura Umeko was buffing Luo Taozhi, the two had already arrived at the southernmost part of the village.
They saw the boss that had already entered the village—the Large Hannya. It was currently gripping a villager, preparing to stuff them into its mouth.
Its entire body was crimson, with a blue face and protruding tusks. It looked like a demonic ghost. This was the Large Hannya.
At this moment, several arrows fired by the villagers were scattered across the Large Hannya’s body. From its crimson form, black blood dripped to the ground from time to time.
[Large Hannya (Weakened)]
Level 20
HP: 1,500/5,000
Introduction: Originally the guardian deity of the Forest of Rebirth, it turned into a Hannya demon for some unknown reason.
Level 20, 5,000 total HP—it was undoubtedly a BOSS status panel!
The good news was that the Large Hannya was currently in a weakened state and couldn’t exert its original strength. Its HP was also at only 1,500.
“Stop, you damned monster!!”
Seeing the Large Hannya holding a villager, Yoshimura Umeko angrily bit her hand. She smeared her own blood onto the paper charm in her hand and roared!
“SHIKIGAMI: BLOOD EXPLOSION!”
She threw the paper charm, which had exploded with red light, toward the Large Hannya.
The moment it left her hand, the paper charm turned into a red streak, piercing right through the hand the Large Hannya was using to hold the villager.

“Roar!”
The Large Hannya cried out in pain. The villager fell and was caught by Luo Taozhi, who had rushed into close range. She then turned around to carry the villager to safety.
“Roar!”
The food in its grasp had flown away, and its hand had been hurt by that red streak.
The Large Hannya was furious. It stomped forward, wanting to snatch its food back from the “food that could run.”
“SHIKIGAMI: BLOOD EXPLOSION!”
Yoshimura Umeko’s voice rang out again alongside another red streak.

This time, the red streak pierced the Large Hannya’s left leg, causing its steps to falter. It could only watch helplessly as Luo Taozhi carried the villager further away.
“Roar! Roar!” It was hungry.
It just wanted to eat. Why couldn’t the food just stand there obediently?
It didn’t understand. It only knew that the food capable of firing red streaks had interrupted its meal more than once!
“Hungry!” It roared at the food. It just wanted to eat. What was wrong with that? Why was everyone stopping it?
Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!!!
‘This moving food all deserves to die!!!’
