When the boss interrupted him like that, Wei Bai’s attention wavered a bit, causing him to miss the rest of the conversation between the two travelers.
By the time he pricked up his ears, hoping to catch what they were saying again, the two travelers had already moved on to talking about mundane, everyday matters.
Helpless, Wei Bai could only sulk and give up.
He had been listening so well, and now, the crucial information had slipped through his grasp.
Should he call it fate?
He was so close, yet an unexpected twist occurred.
Wei Bai held the pancake in his hand, intending to continue searching for the next target, when he suddenly felt the pancake being tugged.
Looking down at it, Wei Bai’s pupils shrank, and instinctively, he wanted to turn and run.
But when he looked back, the crowd behind him blocked any escape.
Seeing the escape route cut off, Wei Bai could only turn back with a grim expression and face the white-haired little figure in front of him.
“Why are you here?”
“Of course, to worry about Mr. Francis!”
Polani chewed her pancake and then swallowed, saying cheerfully to Wei Bai.
Seeing the bite taken out of the pancake in his hand, and glancing at Polani, Wei Bai expressionlessly handed the pancake over.
“You should finish it.”
After saying that, without caring whether Polani wanted it, Wei Bai shoved the pancake into her arms and immediately turned to leave with the crowd.
“Hey! Wait a minute!”
Polani, seeing that Wei Bai wasn’t listening to her at all, gritted her teeth and dashed forward, grabbing Wei Bai’s arm.
The surrounding crowd, seeing this, quickly made way for the two, and then another group gathered, encircling them, curious to see what was happening.
Wei Bai felt a twinge of unease.
He tried to pull his hand out of Polani’s embrace, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t.
Instead, Polani noticed his intent and hugged tighter.
The onlookers didn’t understand what was happening but that didn’t stop them from wanting to watch the spectacle, and they began to cheer.
After traveling long distances, living a dull and monotonous life, people naturally wanted something to capture their attention and relieve their fatigue.
Unfortunately, the “performer” on this viewing platform turned out to be Wei Bai.
“Let go! So many people are watching!”
Surrounded by countless eyes, Wei Bai felt extremely uncomfortable and whispered to Polani.
“No, no!”
Polani, like a spoiled child, hugged Wei Bai’s arm tightly, refusing to let go.
“Hey, what’s the relationship between this girl and this guy?”
A plump merchant asked, and soon, the question spread through the surrounding crowd, becoming a shared curiosity.
“Yeah, what’s the deal between these two?”
“They look really close. That girl is so pretty—this guy’s got lucky,”
“Tsk tsk, probably a couple. Young couples these days are so open; showing affection in public like this… I can’t imagine what they do at home at night.”
Hearing the crowd’s comments, Wei Bai’s face alternated between red and blue, feeling extremely embarrassed.
He desperately wanted to shout, “It’s not what you think!” and explain his relationship with Polani.
But the crowd wouldn’t believe him; they’d just think he was making up excuses to cover the truth.
Who gets so intimate just from riding the same carriage?
Even he himself found that excuse ridiculous.
Too absurd.
Meanwhile, Polani secretly observed Wei Bai’s expression while nibbling on her pancake.
So fun. The little elf has a shy side too.
Chewing on the pancake while holding Wei Bai, Polani didn’t feel uncomfortable being watched by so many people.
After all, she wasn’t the main character—the crowd was staring at the little elf.
“No, ah…” Wei Bai tried to explain, but to the onlookers, his explanation sounded utterly weak and feeble.
“Hey, young man, don’t bother explaining. If I had such a beautiful companion, I’d be thrilled,” a passerby laughed and said to Wei Bai.
Hearing this, Polani immediately nodded like a little chick, happily saying, “Yes, yes, I’m his companion! He’s just having a little tantrum, don’t misunderstand.”
Upon hearing this, the crowd showed expressions of envy, some even casting hostile glances at Wei Bai.
“Have you had enough fun? Do you enjoy having so many people staring at you?”
Wei Bai groaned.
Polani’s words had made the misunderstanding irreparable.
“Hee hee~”
Polani stuck out her tongue at Wei Bai and winked playfully.
Looking at Polani, Wei Bai felt that this blood demon princess had no sense of royal composure.
She had been calm and elegant before, so why was she acting completely different now?
Could she have a split personality?
Or did some ghost possess her that night?!
“Can you at least act a little like a princess? Why are you so… ridiculous?”
“You’re no different, look at you, you don’t look like a…”
Polani started to reply but hadn’t finished “princess” before Wei Bai quickly covered her mouth.
“So many people are watching!!!”
Wei Bai covered Polani’s mouth and looked around nervously.
“Do you want to get me killed?”
“Um… shuanshi zheyang, re mo reng wu de neng.
(Even so, no one recognizes you.)”
Despite her mouth being covered, Polani still tried to speak in her cryptic way.
“What are you mumbling about?!”
Wei Bai didn’t understand how she could still make such sounds with her mouth covered.
Just as he tried to stop her, a sharp pain shot through his palm.
“Don’t bite! It hurts!”
Wei Bai quickly pulled back his hand, noticing a small wound in his palm.
“Nyah~”
Polani made a playful face at Wei Bai, then grabbed his arm and started walking out through the crowd.
The people automatically parted to make way.
“W-wait, where are you taking me?”
“Of course, to find an inn. Don’t you, Mr. Francis, need to sleep?”
“I’m not going to an inn! I want a carriage to leave!”
“Mr. Francis came all the way here by carriage, and you haven’t even stayed long before wanting to leave? That’s strange~”
Polani pulled Wei Bai along without looking back.
“You’re so annoying! Why are you so busy?”
Wei Bai stopped impatiently, pulling Polani slightly off balance.
If it weren’t for seeing Polani, he would’ve happily stayed in Labia City for a while.
But unfortunately, staying here would inevitably lead to another encounter with her.
Recalling what happened that night made Wei Bai blush.
He had actually been bewitched by this blood demon, trusting her disguise, thinking she wanted to be friends.
Unsurprisingly, the cute little elf almost drained him dry.
He would never trust the words of that damn blood demon again!!
