The red mark on Su Ling’s cheek made Ye Moran’s eyes ache with pain.
She didn’t dare use any force, only brushing the heated skin with her fingertips. As soon as she touched him, she saw the little fellow’s body tremble slightly.
In that instant, Ye Moran’s heart shattered.
“Does it hurt…?”
Her voice was incredibly hoarse, her eyes filled with panic and self-reproach.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. Sister didn’t mean it… I just… I couldn’t control myself.”
Su Ling didn’t speak. He only kept his head lowered as tears fell silently, landing on their joined hands with a scalding heat. He didn’t make a scene or struggle; this kind of silence was more agonizing for Ye Moran than any crying or screaming.
“I was wrong, I was really wrong.”
Ye Moran carefully pulled him into her arms, her movements as gentle as if she were afraid of breaking a piece of porcelain.
“You can scold me, okay? Hit me, do whatever you need to let out your anger, just don’t ignore me…”
“I’ll never do it again. I won’t bully you, I won’t scare you, and I’ll never… never lay a finger on you again.”
She raised her hand toward Su Ling, her tone so solemn it bordered on despair.
“If I ever lay a hand on you again, I…”
“Stop it…”
Su Ling finally spoke in a small voice. It was soft and raspy, thick with the sound of crying.
He slowly raised his head. His eyes were bright red, and the clear finger marks on his face made Ye Moran’s chest tighten.
“You… did you really not mean it?”
Ye Moran nodded immediately, so hard it seemed as if she wanted to carve the thought into her very bones.
“Really, I truly didn’t mean it. I’m just… just sick. Sometimes I can’t control my emotions. I never wanted to hurt you, never.”
She gently cupped his face, avoiding the painful spot, her fingertips trembling slightly.
“Forgive Sister this one time, okay? Just this once. It will never happen again, I swear. I swear on everything.”
Looking at the genuine panic and fear in her eyes, the extreme grievance in Su Ling’s heart slowly mixed with a trace of helplessness.
Su Ling hated being hit, and he hated pain, but… he also feared making Sister sad. He wasn’t the type of person who wanted others to suffer…
He sniffled, and though his tears were still falling, he gave a very, very light nod.
“…Then in the future, you aren’t allowed to do that anymore.”
“Okay.”
Ye Moran agreed instantly, her voice relaxing significantly.
“Never again. Never, ever again.”
She carefully pulled him back into her embrace, her movements as light as possible. She stroked his back over and over, coaxing him tenderly.
“It won’t hurt anymore… Sister will blow on it for you, and the pain will go away soon…”
“For the rest of the day, I will hold you. I won’t go anywhere, I won’t be mean to you, I won’t tease you, and I won’t lie to you.”
“Whatever request you have today, I’ll agree to anything. I’ll grant them all.”
Su Ling buried his face in the crook of her neck, sobbing softly. He slowly raised his arms and tentatively grabbed her clothes.
“I… I want to eat shrimp…”
Ye Moran was slightly stunned. She had thought the little fellow would make a request that would be difficult for her to accept — such as wanting to go out for a walk or wanting the right to leave.
She hadn’t expected it to be such a simple request, one she could fulfill so easily.
“I haven’t eaten shrimp in a long time.”
“I thought you didn’t want to eat shrimp anymore?”
Ye Moran remembered that back at the villa, after eating shrimp for a few days, the little fellow had said he didn’t want them anymore. Since then, she hadn’t made anything related to shrimp for him.
“Back then, I ate them every day, so I grew tired of them. Now I haven’t had them in a long time, and I miss them…”
“Alright, I promise you. I’ll go make them for you right now. They’ll be ready soon. Wait for me here like a good boy.”
As Ye Moran was about to get up, she felt the person in her arms stiffen. His small hands immediately clenched her clothes, terrified that she would leave.
“No, don’t go…”
The little fellow’s face was full of anxiety. His hands gripped her tightly, and his body was still trembling slightly.
Her heart turned into a complete mess of tenderness.
“I won’t go.”
She lowered her voice, gently patting his back.
“I’ll have someone prepare them and bring them up. I’ll stay right here and hold you. I won’t leave your side.”
She picked up her mobile phone, gave a few simple instructions, and immediately put it back down. She returned her full attention to the little fellow in her arms, not daring to look away for even a second.
Su Ling buried his face in her chest, listening to her steady heartbeat. The pain on his cheek was still there, but his heart felt warm.
In the moment Sister hit him earlier, he hadn’t thought about the pain or the grievance; he had thought that Sister hated him… He didn’t want Sister to hate him. Sister was his only family left in this world…
Before long, a soft knock came from the door. Qin Siyu walked in carrying a plate of warm, peeled shrimp.
Ye Moran took the plate with one hand, her other hand still holding Su Ling steadily. She carefully blew on a piece of shrimp to cool it down before gently bringing it to his lips.
“Open your mouth.”
Su Ling stole a glance at Qin Siyu, his face turning red as he cautiously opened his mouth to take the bite.
The fresh, tender flavor spread in his mouth. It was a taste he had missed for a long time. But what made him feel more at ease than the shrimp was the caution in Ye Moran’s eyes and the tenderness with which she even softened her breathing. Sister didn’t hate him.
“Is it good?”
Su Ling nodded gently. His eyes were still a bit red, and a few unshed tears remained at the corners of his eyes, making them look watery and bright.
Ye Moran wiped away his tears bit by bit, her movements as light as a feather.
“It’s Sister’s fault. I’ll never let you be in pain again.”
“I’ll never scare you again, I’ll never be mean to you, and I certainly won’t hurt you.”
“I swear.”
Su Ling sniffled, sobbing quietly.
“Then… you have to remember what you said today.”
“I’ll remember.”
Ye Moran leaned down and pressed an extremely light, serious kiss onto his smooth forehead.
“I’ll remember it for a lifetime.”
Su Ling finally nestled into her arms with peace of mind. His small hands tightly hugged her waist, as if he were grasping the only light in the world.
The fragrance of the peeled shrimp permeated the air, and the sunlight fell gently upon the two of them. In this moment, the room was so quiet that only their breathing remained.
Qin Siyu stood to the side, as silent as air. An idea regarding a deal she made with her own little pet flickered through her mind.
Her little pet was jealous of her Boss’s pet — jealous enough to want to send the Boss’s pet to Hell!
As she watched the intimate interaction between Ye Jin and her Boss, a wave of envy surged in her own heart.
Her little pet had never been as well-behaved as Ye Jin. Although he always appeared submissive, she knew it wasn’t true obedience, but fear!
If sending Ye Jin to Hell would make her little pet fully submit to her, then it might be worth a try!
Su Ling ate the peeled shrimp in small bites. Ye Moran held him, feeding him patiently. She blew on every bite until it was warm, afraid of burning him and even more afraid of causing him pain again.
When the plate of shrimp was nearly empty, Su Ling shook his head gently and whispered, “I’m full…”
Ye Moran set the plate down and immediately pulled him tighter into her arms. Her fingertips brushed against his still-reddened cheek, her movements so light she barely touched him.
“Does it still hurt?”
Su Ling was silent for a moment before letting out a small “Mhm,” then immediately added, “Just a little bit…”
Ye Moran’s heart felt as if it were being pricked by needles.
She lowered her head toward the faint mark and blew on it very, very softly.
“Sister will blow on it so it won’t hurt… Sister is here…”
Su Ling trembled slightly from her breath, but he didn’t pull away. He glanced at Qin Siyu, who was still standing nearby.
Seeing the two of them like this, Qin Siyu tactfully retreated from the room.
Ye Moran ignored her, continuing to speak to herself.
“Sister… will never do it again.”
Her voice was very low, carrying a heavy weight of suppressed self-reproach.
“I will take my medicine, I will control my temper, and I will be good to you… I mean it.”
Su Ling raised his head and couldn’t help but ask curiously, “What medicine?”
“It’s nothing. Little fellow only needs to know that after I take that medicine, I won’t do anything overboard to you. That’s enough!”
