As evening approached, Bai Nian finally led the Dream Makers to conquer the Immortal Mountain.
The process was much simpler than expected.
She didn’t know why, though it might have been due to her Profession.
The other four Commander-level Undead consisted of a humanoid skeleton riding a skeletal horse and wielding a giant scythe, its entire body wreathed in blue-purple flames;
Another was a floating ghost whose physical form was nothing but a black robe, its interior filled with blue flame energy, possessing form but no substance;
There was also a withered humanoid holding a staff, draped in a tattered black mage’s robe.
Most importantly, this one could actually summon skeletons;
As for the last one, the one suspected to be the closest to the King among them, its appearance more closely resembled Bai Nian’s image of a Western Reaper.
It also wore a black robe, held a scythe, and hovered off the ground, moving with incredible speed, appearing and disappearing without a trace.
The manipulation process went very smoothly.
These Undead seemed to have very simple minds, unlike humans who harbored so many hidden intentions.
There were over a thousand Undead on the mountain.
Bai Nian felt that as long as she mobilized them, she could potentially flatten the opposition.
This didn’t even account for their ability to manipulate other creatures, but Bai Nian had observed while descending the mountain that there was nothing but rugged, uneven grassland surrounding the Immortal Mountain.
Not far past the Immortal Mountain, one could see that pale gold Sky Canopy, which served as the boundary for other Alliance territories.
Bai Nian hadn’t eaten all day, and their dinner today was a python.
Since there was nothing on the Immortal Mountain except cold-blooded animals, it wasn’t as if they could gnaw on bones, right?
“Snake meat…”
Bai Nian’s skin crawled.
She had never eaten this kind of meat before, but she had no choice at the moment.
However, when the group returned to the Castle, she discovered a man wearing linen clothes who seemed to have been waiting there for a long time.
It was someone else’s unit!
Seeing Bai Nian, the man immediately stepped forward and said with a respectful expression, “Lord, I am a Winged Bird Messenger under a member of the Heavenly Dynasty Nine Provinces. I have come specifically to contact you.”
“What is your ability?”
Bai Nian asked, tilting her head as she continued dragging the python toward the Castle.
“Follow me.”
The man immediately followed upon hearing this, explaining to her as they walked.
“In response to the Lord, our abilities are primarily supportive. We can fly to survey terrain and transmit messages between those of the same Profession.”
“Does that mean you’ve contacted everyone now?”
Bai Nian asked curiously.
The people Chen Yi had selected were not all of Combat Professions; these professionals were indeed experienced.
“In response to the Lord, not yet. My Lord is currently unable to obtain that many Points,” the man answered honestly.
The other party had simply sent out all their units to prioritize checking the situation.
Bai Nian hadn’t received special treatment; it was merely because her Castle was located on the border.
At this stage, everyone was bound to use their limited power to first grasp intelligence on the borders to gain the initiative.
Therefore, the messenger had no other Missions for the time being.
“By the way, Lord, through our investigation, we discovered that there is a strange terrain feature near every Lord’s Castle; Non-human races reside upon them. My Lord speculates that they are very likely the source of the Daily Crisis.”
The Winged Bird Messenger suddenly added.
Bai Nian sat down in the Plaza; she had almost forgotten there was still a Daily Crisis.
However, since the crisis came from the surrounding creatures, she didn’t have much to worry about.
She didn’t reply to him, instead turning her gaze toward the busy Dream Makers not far away.
Although they were a group of girls, their physiques were not weak, and they were proficient in various wilderness survival skills.
Making fire by friction was, of course, no problem for them.
The messenger beside her glanced at Bai Nian, then looked around, his heart filled with doubt.
Why was the Castle filled with nothing but ordinary people?
What could a group of women do?
Even if they weren’t worried about the Daily Crisis, shouldn’t they be worried about other Alliances?
Did they not know they were on the border?
They had been out for an entire day with such casual attitudes, yet they had only caught a single python and done nothing else.
Truly…
The messenger sighed inwardly, but he was a subordinate after all and had no right to say more.
He had no choice but to transmit the message to his own Lord.
“Lord, I’ve encountered a slacking Lord at the southeastern central border…”
He reported everything he saw without missing a single detail.
A moment later, he received a reply:
“We are short-handed right now. Abandon this Lord and go find others to contact along the border!”
By this time, Bai Nian could already smell the fragrant aroma of meat.
Her stomach was growling with hunger, so she no longer cared what kind of meat it was.
Taking the food handed to her by a subordinate, she began to eat in large bites.
“Everyone eat, let’s eat together,” she said indistinctly.
Having finally eaten meat after a full day of hunger put her in an excellent mood.
Bai Nian immediately took another piece of snake meat and handed it to the messenger:
“Here, you should eat some too. Don’t be polite.”
Looking at her harmless expression and the smile on her lips, the messenger’s internal disdain grew even stronger.
Just stay here and wait to die quietly.
He thought to himself, but on the surface, he still responded politely:
“Thank you for your kindness, Lord. I have just received an Order to find other Lords, so I will take my leave now.”
As he spoke, a pair of wings actually manifested on his back.
He then beat his wings and took flight, disappearing into the night sky in the blink of an eye.
Bai Nian withdrew her hand that was hovering in mid-air and glanced in the direction the man had left.
“Strange…”
Time passed until it was late at night; she wasn’t sure of the exact hour.
She only knew the night had grown deeper.
There was no light from the stars or the Moonlight in the sky.
Except for the orange-red glow of the surrounding campfires, the distance was pitch black, where one couldn’t see their own hand.
The light of the Castle Crystal in the center of the Plaza suddenly flared brilliantly.
Surging energy gathered into a row of large characters, warning everyone in the Castle.
[The Daily Crisis will arrive after the countdown ends: 59… 58… 57…]
Bai Nian was momentarily stunned.
She spat out a snake bone and stood up, beginning to wait quietly.
Her gaze remained fixed outside the Castle, and the Dream Makers also began their guard.
“It seems that messenger’s guess earlier was wrong.”
Time passed second by second.
As the countdown reached zero, the energy on the Castle Crystal began to dissipate.
However, there wasn’t the slightest bit of movement outside the Castle…
Bai Nian waited for a few more minutes just to be sure, then finally plopped back down onto the ground.
“So it was just a false alarm.”
“Xiao Bai, arrange for people to take turns on night watch tonight,” Bai Nian instructed, turning to walk back into the Castle.
Because she had suddenly remembered that after conquering so many creatures on the Immortal Mountain, there should be quite a few Points, right?
