Lin Luan’s heart skipped a beat.
Had she discovered that he was working as a Rental Boyfriend?
“Aren’t you working as a salesman at her company? It’s perfectly normal to be in sales for a technology company. You should work hard; I feel like Jinse Technology has a very bright future.”
Shen Yu gave a sunny smile, one that was truly heart-warming.
“Eh?” Lin Luan was stunned, then he rubbed his neck. “Yeah, it is… okay.”
So Shen Yu hadn’t found out. It was a false alarm.
“But why did you follow me again? Didn’t I tell you to stay at home?” Lin Luan asked, somewhat puzzled.
“Oh, you.” Shen Yu extended a finger, stood on her tiptoes, and poked Lin Luan’s forehead.
“Do you even know how handsome you are? A boy like you is easily targeted by bad women. I couldn’t feel at ease letting you come here alone.”
“See? You were almost subjected to the unspoken rules, weren’t you?”
Shen Yu’s cheeks puffed up with anger. Lin Luan didn’t dare look at her and could only avert his gaze.
“Uh… I’m sorry.”
“Why say sorry to me? This is your own body!”
Just as Shen Yu finished speaking, the phone in Lin Luan’s pocket rang abruptly.
He pulled out his phone.
[Su Jin]
Lin Luan glanced at Shen Yu.
“I’ll take this call…?”
“Go ahead,” Shen Yu said.
Lin Luan nodded apologetically, then walked over to the elevator buttons and answered the phone.
Although the elevator wasn’t large, Shen Yu still maintained a distance between them to give Lin Luan a safe, private space. She waited quietly a short distance away without making a sound.
The call connected. Lin Luan hesitated for a moment before speaking.
“Hello, General Manager Su.”
“General Manager Su…? Lin Luan, what on earth are you doing? Why are you calling me that?”
On the other end of the line, Su Jin frowned. What was this kid up to?
“Ah ha ha, please tell me what you need.” Lin Luan didn’t answer Su Jin’s question, just continued on his own.
With Shen Yu present, he had to act like a worker—or at least play the part of an employee.
Su Jin sighed slightly. She didn’t dig for answers, instead simply stating her purpose for calling:
“Lin Luan, tomorrow at three in the afternoon, my father will arrive in Chang City. He’s coming straight to my house. I’ll send Song Li to pick you up in a bit. You’re staying at my place tonight.”
“At your…?!”
Staying at her house?!
Lin Luan almost cried out, but with Shen Yu there, he didn’t dare say more.
“Okay, General Manager Su.” He tried his best to keep his voice steady. “I understand.”
“…Good.”
Su Jin was a little surprised. She thought Lin Luan would at least hesitate, but she hadn’t expected him to agree to her request so calmly.
However, it was a good thing; it saved her from having Song Li kidnap him.
“Remember the precautions I told you.” Su Jin paused, her tone carrying an emphasis that brooked no argument. “Dress appropriately and be cautious with your words and actions. I don’t want any slips.”
“Understood.”
After that sentence, there was no sound from the other end for a long time.
Just as Lin Luan looked at his phone to check if the call had accidentally disconnected, Su Jin spoke again.
“Also… is the watch I gave you comfortable to wear?”
“Eh?” Lin Luan was stunned. He didn’t understand how the topic could shift so quickly. “It’s fine, General Manager Su. It’s quite nice.”
“Mm-hmm, good. I have things to do, hanging up.”
“Beep, beep, beep.”
The call was short and concise. Su Jin seemed busy, hanging up immediately after finishing her business.
Lin Luan put his phone away and turned around.
“What’s wrong? Is there an emergency at the company?” Shen Yu asked with concern.
“Yeah, something like that,” Lin Luan replied vaguely, not wanting to say more. “I have some important matters to handle.”
“I still have work to do, you go back first.” Lin Luan rubbed his brow, feeling a bit tired. “Thanks for today. About Xià Wǎn Yú… I’ll find another way. Don’t do anything reckless for now.”
Seeing the exhaustion between his brows, Shen Yu nodded obediently. “Okay, I’ll listen to you. Don’t overwork yourself.”
“Okay.” Lin Luan smiled.
“Ding.”
The elevator doors opened, and the two walked out into the lobby of the office building.
Lin Luan was clearly distracted. He told Shen Yu to be careful on the road and hurriedly left the Youwan Entertainment building.
Shen Yu stood where she was, watching Lin Luan’s hurried back, and didn’t leave immediately.
She raised her hand and gently pulled a Bluetooth earphone out of her dress pocket.
From the earphone, Lin Luan’s voice was currently coming through:
“Hello, Song Li? It’s me, Lin Luan… Yes, General Manager Su just contacted me… Yeah, I understand. I can go there myself… No, no need to pick me up, it’s too much trouble. I can manage…”
Shen Yu listened quietly, her face showing no surprise.
Of course, she knew the relationship between Su Jin and Lin Luan. She had heard everything in Xià Wǎn Yú’s office clearly, but she couldn’t expose it.
First, exposing it would hurt Lin Luan’s self-esteem. Second, exposing it would make Lin Luan suspicious, making it harder for her to monitor him in the future.
Until Lin Luan completely became her property, she would always be that harmless Little White Rabbit.
She just hadn’t expected…
Lin Luan, oh Lin Luan. Why do you have to have such a handsome face? To think more than one woman has set her sights on you.
Su Jin… Xià Wǎn Yú… they’re both bosses of big companies.
But it’s such a pity. They only like your appearance. Only I love your soul. Only I am the one who truly loves you.
Shen Yu’s hand tightened slightly.
I won’t let anyone snatch you away from me.
Anyone.
***
Su Jin sat on the living room sofa, her fists clenched on her knees, feeling flustered.
There were still ten minutes until Lin Luan’s estimated arrival time, yet she was already feeling restless.
This feeling was very unfamiliar.
It was her own home, and Lin Luan was just a tool she hired to deal with her father… but at the thought of that man entering her personal domain and staying the night, an inexplicable anxiety quietly spread.
She stood up, walked to the full-length mirror, and scrutinized her appearance again.
Her makeup was perfect. Although her clothes looked like ordinary loungewear, they were actually carefully arranged. Even her curly hair was kept at the perfect angle.
No, this is too deliberate.
Su Jin shook her head and irritably messed up a few strands of hair with her hand.
She stood in front of the mirror with her hands on her hips, trying to create a casual feeling of “I don’t care if you come or not.”
But it backfired and made her look even more childish.
“Miss, Mr. Lin should be arriving soon.” Song Li’s voice came from behind, calm as ever.
Su Jin turned around abruptly, as if her secrets had been exposed.
“I-I know! Go check the room prepared for him again. Make sure there are no oversights.”
Song Li nodded slightly, a hint of realization flashing in her eyes, and silently withdrew.
In the empty living room, Su Jin exhaled softly, feeling like a little girl waiting for her exam results. This feeling of being out of control made her very uncomfortable.
She didn’t understand why she was like this. It was just Lin Luan…
“Ding-dong—”
The doorbell rang.
Su Jin took a deep breath and reverted to her ice-queen persona.
She walked to the door, didn’t open it immediately, but paused for two seconds.
“Click.”
Outside the door stood a somewhat travel-worn Lin Luan.
Su Jin crossed her arms, her chin slightly raised.
“Quite punctual,” she spoke flatly. “Come in. There are slippers in the foyer.”
