The Train doors opened, and the living room of an apartment came into view.
Ye Yuan was the first to step out from the protection of the Light Screen.
The moment she left The Train, the shadows of two humanoid creatures lurking in her blind spots let out roars and lunged toward Ye Yuan.
Ye Yuan had long been on guard and immediately retreated.
The two figures collided with each other, missing their target, and were blocked outside The Train by the Light Screen.
Separated only by the doorway, Ye Yuan and Mu Bai could easily observe the appearance of these two monsters.
Their faces were pale and bloodless, with residual blood scabs around their facial orifices.
Veins bulged across their flesh, and there were faint signs of decay…
These weren’t “creatures” at all; they were simply Zombies!
A Doomsday Station… so it was a Zombie Doomsday.
Fortunately, The Train could block all external dangers.
Ye Yuan stood inside the carriage and aimed at the Zombies.
Two sounds of breaking air rang out one after another, piercing the eye sockets of a Zombie to destroy its brain with a “squelch.”
The next moment, the Zombie lost its ability to move and fell straight to the ground, clearly killed.
Ye Yuan stepped out of the carriage again, kicking the two Zombies slightly outward to leave enough space around the door of The Train.
Mu Bai followed closely behind.
This residential area Station scene was good.
Since a family once lived here, even if they had all turned into Zombies, there was a high possibility that some food remained.
Even if it was just unprocessed staples like rice or flour, it would be enough to resolve their urgent situation.
However, before that, they had to clear the interior of the residence and thoroughly confirm there were no risks before gathering supplies.
Ye Yuan held the Compound Crossbow, her spirit high, looking nothing like someone who had been hungry for three days.
[Weapon Master] allowed her to master martial arts; muscle memory enabled Ye Yuan to temporarily overdraw her physical strength and energy, bringing her physical state to its peak to deal with any crisis.
“Bang!”
Ye Yuan kicked open a bedroom door, the Compound Crossbow poised in front of her, ready to fire.
The room was empty.
Suddenly, roars and crashing sounds came from another room nearby.
It must be a Zombie locked inside who was stimulated by the sound but couldn’t break through the door.
Following the sound, Ye Yuan led Mu Bai to the bathroom door.
This room was locked from the inside.
It seemed the person inside realized they were infected and locked the door to protect their family.
“You come and split the door open; I’ll aim inside the room,”
Ye Yuan quickly thought of a strategy.
She handed the Iron Axe at her waist to Mu Bai and stepped aside from the front of the door.
Mu Bai stood in front without hesitation.
The task of breaking down the door was certainly risky.
If Ye Yuan didn’t get a one-shot kill, Mu Bai would be the first to be attacked, but a team must trust each
other to grow.
If they wanted to survive, relying on oneself alone wouldn’t work.
“Bang!”
With one blow of the axe, the lock didn’t break open, but a crack appeared at the connection between the lock and the door.
Fortunately, it was a wooden door.
If it were a thin metal door, given Mu Bai’s small frame and current lack of strength, she probably wouldn’t be able to break it.
Inside the door, the roars grew more frantic, and the impacts made the lock look precarious.
But when people are extremely hungry, they can overcome cowardice.
If Mu Bai were in her peak state, she might have panicked in this situation, but current Mu Bai wasn’t afraid at all.
“Clang!”
Another full-strength axe strike.
The door lock broke immediately!
Even with only 2 points of Strength, using specialized tools like the Iron Axe was enough to break down the door!
Ye Yuan instantly pulled Mu Bai behind her.
At the same time, the wooden door was slammed open by the Zombie.
A crossbow bolt shot out, piercing through the bridge of the nose into the Zombie’s face, the bolt getting stuck in the skull.
Following its momentum, the already-killed Zombie continued to lunge forward, but most of its force had been buffered by the door before Ye Yuan kicked it back.
Mu Bai swallowed some non-existent saliva.
Although the scene looked violent, having the person inflicting the violence stand in front of her gave her a great sense of security.
Being teammates with Ye Yuan really was something special.
After dealing with the third Zombie, the two of them searched the house inside and out and found no more Zombies.
At this point, the house was completely safe.
There were still Zombies outside the security door, but they didn’t intend to go out and explore.
Both were in poor condition; the risk of going out was too high.
It was better to play it safe and collect all the supplies from this household.
Ye Yuan first retrieved the bolts that had instantly killed the Zombies, wiped them clean, washed them with water, and put them back.
Surprisingly, the water hadn’t been cut off at this Doomsday Station.
After tidying up the bolts, Ye Yuan went back to the train to get a water bottle, intending to collect some water resources.
“Wait a moment.”
Mu Bai was still counting the food when she saw this and stopped Ye Yuan.
“Is there a problem?”
Having dealt with the danger and being in a safe environment, plus the return of the cramping sensation in her stomach, Ye Yuan felt a bit lightheaded.
“How do you think the occupants of this house turned into Zombies?”
“…The water?”
“It’s just a guess. The environment this family lived in was clearly very safe; Zombies from outside couldn’t break through the security door, and they weren’t short on food, yet they all got infected…This means something went wrong internally. The most likely cause is the water.”
Mu Bai’s weak voice carried a bit of dryness as she struggled to explain, “I’m not sure if high temperatures can kill this Zombie Virus or fungus, so it’s best not to use the water from this Station.”
This thought came to her instantly because she usually read a lot of apocalyptic novels.
It seemed writing novels hadn’t been in vain; all the material she’d read finally came in handy…
Ye Yuan was startled, which cleared her head quite a bit.
Although it was just Mu Bai’s speculation, the more she thought about it, the more possible it seemed.
She had almost fallen for it.
Since the water at this Station couldn’t be used, Ye Yuan had no choice but to count the supplies with Mu
Bai first and move them back to The Train.
They were in luck.
This trip could be called a bumper harvest.
The kitchen contained a lot of rice, flour, grain, oil, and seasonings.
It looked like this family had been stockpiling before the Doomsday began.
There were also many canned goods in the cabinets.
Most of the ingredients in the refrigerator had gone bad, but there were still many good eggs and an unopened jar of spicy chicken oil chili sauce.
Besides food, wooden furniture could serve as materials for The Train’s upgrade.
Unfortunately, there weren’t many iron or rubber products.
Although the kitchenware could add a bit to the Upgrade Progress, they couldn’t exactly turn raw ingredients into food with their bare hands.
Next, Ye Yuan was responsible for chopping all the wooden furniture into lumber, moving it into The
Train, and placing it in the material storage area.
Mu Bai rummaged through drawers to collect miscellaneous items; everything that looked useful was brought back by her to The Train.
As the four-hour docking time approached, the collected supplies almost filled the empty floor space of The Train.
The wood used for the upgrade was not only full but had plenty left over.
The excess was listed on the Trading Channel to exchange for water resources.
The Train started.
Not long after, someone traded over a barrel of mineral water for ten kilograms of wood.
Since they hadn’t eaten proper food for too long, neither dared to eat too much.
They split a can of bread and ate some canned fruit to supplement their sugar.
Exhausted, they lay on the bed and fell into a deep sleep.
