On Saturday afternoon, Lu Ren, who had been relaxing for a while, stretched his body and let out a long sigh.
The computer screen displayed his impressive winning streak.
“Ren! You’re invincible! Man, I’ve never won this easily before! Let’s keep duo-queuing in the future!”
Xu Wenxing took off his headphones and shouted excitedly, his eyes filled with admiration as he looked at Lu Ren.
“Get lost. Carrying you through these games really wore me out.” Lu Ren waved his hand at Xu Wenxing with some disdain.
“How can you be so bad? You’re consistently down thirty CS every game, and you’re playing the ADC position. Even if you’re a leecher, you shouldn’t leech like this, feeding a monster to the other side every single time.”
“Oh, Ren, you know my skill level. I did my best not to get lane-killed, okay?” Xu Wenxing came up with a lame excuse on the fly.
“Besides, bot lane isn’t just about the ADC; the support is very important too! The support played poorly, so you can’t blame me.”
“So you’re saying it’s all the support’s fault and you did nothing wrong?”
Lu Ren’s mouth twitched. He hadn’t expected Xu Wenxing to find a way to justify his abysmal skills from that angle.
“That’s not it. How could I not have made mistakes? My sensitivity to health bars and skills was lacking this game, and I missed some fleeting opportunities. Otherwise, with our top, mid, and jungle having the advantage, this game wouldn’t have dragged on to twenty-five minutes.”
“…Just stop looking for opportunities. Next time you play with me, remember to stand in the front during team fights and be the initiator.”
Hearing this, Lu Ren was powerless to complain about Xu Wenxing’s ideas.
He finally gave his most sincere suggestion so that his blood pressure wouldn’t spike too high the next time he played with Xu Wenxing.
“Yeah, yeah, I got it. So, Ren, are you still playing?” Xu Wenxing nodded as if he had realized something and then asked Lu Ren.
“I’m done. We ran into a smurf this game. If the other teammates hadn’t played well, we would’ve been finished long ago. I think if we keep playing, we’ll run into Strawberry Soft Candy. Better call it a day.” Lu Ren replied.
“Oh, I see. Fine then.”
Xu Wenxing shrugged with a hint of regret, exited the game, and took out his phone to scroll through the forums.
Meanwhile, Lu Ren yawned and gestured with his finger to Pandora, who was lying on his bed, inviting her to come down and watch the news.
Upon receiving Lu Ren’s invitation, Pandora couldn’t wait to jump down.
She crawled onto Lu Ren’s lap, waiting for him to find the latest current affairs or the daily news for City A.
Lu Ren skillfully typed in the website address and hit enter.
After zooming in on the screen, he leaned back in his chair and stared at the ceiling in a daze.
When he was sleeping last night, he had tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
Sapphire’s rampage reminded him of an old friend who was very important to him—the very, very important kind.
Although to that old friend, he was probably just an ordinary person she had once saved.
However, at the thought of the promise he had made to her afterward, the corners of Lu Ren’s mouth couldn’t help but curl up slightly.
Hey, can you see?
The person you fought so hard to save is living a good life now, enjoying his college days.
Because of your heroic deeds, he even chose to accept that unknown power of a magical girl, wanting to use it to save more innocent lives.
If you could know these things, you’d be happy, wouldn’t you?
Lu Ren quietly closed his eyes and smiled silently.
To him, every day he lived a good life was a way of expressing gratitude to that savior.
His life didn’t just belong to him; it belonged to someone else as well.
So, no matter what happened, he had to live his life well.
Thinking about his future, Lu Ren’s mood lightened considerably.
In this calm and peaceful atmosphere, Xu Wenxing, who was looking down at his phone, seemed to have discovered something. He suddenly stood up, came to Lu Ren’s side, and patted his shoulder.
“Hey, Ren, what happened last night? Why is there a trace of you in this place?”
“Huh? Let me see.”
Lu Ren curiously took the phone and saw a picture of himself walking aggressively toward a white warehouse.
Undoubtedly, this was a firsthand photo from last night.
It seemed that some uninvolved bystander was nearby at the time and was even bold enough to point a camera at her and take a bunch of photos.
Quite bold indeed.
Having narrowly escaped the Nightmare Monster’s control, yet daring to stay put and look around the scene…
…Wait?
Lu Ren frowned slightly, sensing something was off.
According to the post-incident investigation, all residents near the white warehouse had fallen into a dream at that time, becoming puppets in the Nightmare Monster’s hands.
What kind of person could break free from the Nightmare Monster’s control and maintain their self-awareness while coming to the scene to take photos of her?
They didn’t photograph the officials, they didn’t photograph Sapphire, they didn’t photograph Meteor—they specifically photographed her as she rushed in to save the day.
What did this mean?
Could this be a new monster issuing a challenge, intending to have a one-on-one duel with her?
Now that she had eliminated two numbered monsters, no monster should be so foolish as to choose to come out and fight her head-on, right?
But only a monster should be able to do something like this, right?
Or was the person who took this photo actually an extremely lucky individual?
Lu Ren couldn’t figure it out. In the end, he could only let out a helpless sigh and return the phone to Xu Wenxing.
“Looking at your expression, Ren, something definitely happened last night,” Xu Wenxing guessed with a smile.
“Yes, something did happen last night. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had to give up gaming to go out on a mission.” Lu Ren nodded, confirming Xu Wenxing’s suspicion. “But don’t worry, nothing happened. Last night was just a boring little skirmish.”
“Based on your tone, it seems like last night’s matter was handled very easily?” Xu Wenxing laughed. “Why do I have a faint feeling that you’re lying to me?”
“Stop guessing. I didn’t even break a sweat last night. You tell me if I ran into trouble.” Lu Ren told a lie with a straight face.
“Uh, alright then. It must have been pretty easy.” Xu Wenxing was stunned for a moment, then nodded, accepting Lu Ren’s explanation. “By the way, Ren, can I ask you a question?”
“Hmm? What question?” Lu Ren asked curiously.
“The poster of this photo said that Blaze is the magical girl he admires most, and he’s very excited to have taken a photo of his idol himself.” Xu Wenxing said. “So, Ren, do you have a magical girl you admire? Do you plan to go and ask her for a photo together?”
“…What kind of question is that?” Lu Ren raised an eyebrow. He hadn’t expected Xu Wenxing to ask such a strange question.
“Hey, just say if you do or not!”
“…I do,” Lu Ren admitted.
