Mu Xuan pulled his clothes tighter, and then a gentle glow enveloped his entire body, transforming his appearance back into that of a young man.
Mili stood to the side, her face full of curiosity. No matter how you looked at those empty eye sockets, they were nothing short of eerie.
However, Mu Xuan paid it no mind. After gently patting Mili’s head, he spoke softly, “I have some things to do and will be back later. You need to stay here and be good, alright?”
“Mm!” Mili nodded obediently.
Seeing Mili nod, Mu Xuan finally let out a small sigh of relief, then turned towards the door, ready to leave the room.
He had just stepped out when he stumbled, nearly knocked over by Mili.
Feeling the softness against his back and the pair of hands wrapped around his waist, Mu Xuan said helplessly, “I have to go…”
Only then did Mili reluctantly let go.
After all, she’d been alone here for far too long. Besides the bad memories, there was nothing but endless, endless loneliness.
After Mili let go, Mu Xuan thought for a moment and decided to hand her a stone imbued with a vast amount of Light Power.
“Take this stone. If anything happens, you can use it to contact me.”
The Light Power within the stone was mainly for communication, just in case Mili grew too lonely while staying here alone and started recalling some bad memories, leading to another emotional breakdown.
Mu Xuan didn’t want to go through all the trouble of restoring Mili’s sanity, only to return and find this place turned into another Rule Nightmare. That would be fatal.
As for how to settle Mili afterwards, that would have to wait until the town’s situation was dealt with.
Mili accepted the stone with some surprise and gently rubbed her cheek against it.
Feeling the dense Light Power within, an indescribable happiness surfaced on her face.
“Well then, I’m off, Miss Mili.” With that, Mu Xuan didn’t linger. He pushed open the door and walked out.
The corridor had returned to normal, but in a sense, it was still far from normal.
There were far too many corpses here.
All of them belonged to the faithful who had come to pray.
After the City Guard had decapitated them, the heads were left in the confession room, while the bodies were dumped here in the corridor, and the outer prayer room was also strewn with corpses.
Frowning, Mu Xuan carefully avoided the headless bodies on the floor and followed the corridor to the prayer room.
The statue had toppled to the ground, but there was still quite a bit of Faith Power lingering within.
Mu Xuan had no intention of drawing out the remaining Faith Power completely.
However, he did notice that beneath the statue lay a mangled, bloody corpse dressed in a nun’s habit.
Now, Mu Xuan understood.
That elderly nun had probably tried to hold up the statue, or perhaps attempted to stop the City Guard from destroying it, and in the end, was crushed to death by the falling statue…
Mu Xuan sighed softly in his heart, feeling more and more disgusted with this town. Especially with Chatuite and Mosen.
Even so, Mu Xuan now had a general understanding of the town’s situation.
This town belonged to the Bokoteli Kingdom, while the church’s power was centered far away in the Yiersaluoqi Kingdom. However, the Mage Association under the Central Mage Tower was much closer.
All in all, the church truly had no control here… but that didn’t excuse Chatuite and Mosen’s wanton slaughter.
And there was one more unresolved point—why did the Silvermoon Knight come here, and why did the mine cause so many problems…
As he pondered, Mu Xuan’s thoughts began to drift.
Moxuan Flower, huh…
Mu Xuan thought of the Moxuan Flower that Mili had mentioned.
He searched his own jumbled memories for the origin of that flower.
It was said to grow in the skies near the floating islands where dragons lived, like a cluster of clouds, pure white and flawless, symbolizing hope for tomorrow…
It did indeed sound like his name… Except, he didn’t feel worthy of it.
Shaking his head, Mu Xuan quickly snapped back to his senses.
His focus now should be on the Silvermoon Knight and Lord Chatuite.
As for Mosen, Mu Xuan didn’t plan to investigate for now. The man was most likely an Archmage, one of those he’d classified as the Deep Sea Pinnacle—an extremely dangerous existence.
Mu Xuan had long since listed him as a highly dangerous target.
Of these two targets, what puzzled Mu Xuan most was the Silvermoon Knight.
The man had clearly appeared within Mili’s rules, yet Mili remembered everything about her rules—except the Silvermoon Knight.
Even after Mili recovered, Mu Xuan had searched, but found no trace of the Silvermoon Knight. It was as if… this person had never existed.
But Mu Xuan was certain—the Silvermoon Knight had definitely appeared.
Yet for now, there were no leads on the Silvermoon Knight, and Mu Xuan couldn’t head for the mine outside the town. For now, his only remaining target was the lord’s mansion.
When the heavy church doors were pushed open once more, Mu Xuan gazed at the gray, hazy sky and the bustling crowds filling the street. He squinted slightly.
It was daytime now, but Mu Xuan couldn’t feel happy at all.
Yesterday, it was as if the entire town had been muted, but today, the clamor was back. Something wasn’t right…
Did this mean that his actions had already set things in motion here?
Thinking it over, Mu Xuan chose to be cautious. He didn’t approach any passersby, nor did he make a sound. With the strangeness of this place still unclear, this was the safest course.
Mu Xuan’s objective was clear: the tavern.
He knew where the lord’s mansion was, but since the town had changed, he wanted to see if any new events had arisen.
With that in mind, Mu Xuan quickened his pace and headed straight for the tavern.
But the closer he got, the more uneasy he felt.
As he drew near, where there had been a decent crowd, only one or two people remained. Anyone else would quickly lower their heads and hurry away, not daring to linger.
Mu Xuan hesitated for a moment.
Should he go to the tavern?
He glanced around and noticed something unusual.
There were City Guards here!
Seeing the guards standing in the corner, watching the tavern, Mu Xuan realized why the area was deserted.
Before he could make up his mind, a hand suddenly clapped down on his shoulder, startling him. Just as he was about to react, a familiar voice made him lower his guard a little.
“Hey, brother, this way.” As he spoke, the burly man took Mu Xuan with him without further ado, leading him down an alley.
It was the same burly man who had spoken to Mu Xuan in the tavern last time.
He hadn’t expected the man to still recognize him…
Feeling a bit puzzled, Mu Xuan decided to trust the big man for now. After all, he had no better options at the moment.
