Charlotte returned home and immediately took out the token Bella had given him.
The Duke of Ennis family crest still carried a hint of a young maiden’s fragrance, a delicate and elegant scent that was indeed quite alluring.
Charlotte studied the token with a blank expression.
Suddenly, his emerald green eyes gleamed.
The Divine Artifact “Initial Mist” had granted him eyes capable of piercing through Divine Miracles.
Before him, magical prohibitions were no more concealed than a naked little girl.
“As expected….”
Charlotte had found traces of Positioning Magic.
However, he had no intention of startling the snake by dispelling it.
If the spell continued, the caster would keep receiving positioning information; but if he broke it, it would expose the fact that Charlotte had discovered it.
But then, Charlotte became worried.
After all, the location of his mansion was now exposed to Bella.
If he lived alone, it wouldn’t matter, but Floleen was here too, and she was only a second-rank mage.
“I thought you people would wait a little longer, maybe until tomorrow to lure me in. Seems you can’t wait….”
Charlotte knew that there would likely be an attack tonight.
These people truly had guts, daring to strike at a Calixi Noble right under the emperor’s nose.
With such boldness, it definitely wasn’t just the Duke of Ennis behind this.
“Aetherlan Divine Church.”
Charlotte was nearly certain of the force backing the Duke of Ennis.
This fanatical church, since the Age of Genesis, had always sought to eliminate all remnants of darkness.
“Looks like these lunatics can’t wait to make a move within the Imperial Capital.”
……
Night fell, in Bella’s boudoir.
Bella donned a White Lace Dress, the intricate lace patterns delicate and exquisite.
She spun in front of the mirror, admiring her beautiful figure.
“Hehe, to see me looking this beautiful before dying—what an honor for him.”
Though she had helped her father deal with many people before, none had ever received this treatment.
Those people had only dropped dead in an instant.
For Charlotte, Bella had prepared a full ritual.
Not just because he was a Marquis, not just because he was a dazzling magical genius, and not just because her father had repeatedly emphasized that he must die before the imperial banquet.
Bella wanted Charlotte’s death to follow her own script.
She would make Floleen’s fiancé fall in love with her before he died—she was certain!
And she would tell Floleen all about it, letting Floleen perish in torment.
Thinking of this, she grew excited.
“Ah… dear Miss Bella, how could you be so kind? Allowing Charlotte to behold a girl as beautiful as a fairy before granting a Marquis a dignified, painless death.”
“Then letting Floleen see her enemy dressed in a pure white gown stained with her future husband’s blood, and torturing her to death as well, sending this pair of lovers to reunite in heaven. What a pair of tragic mandarin ducks~”
She slung a Purple Longsword over her back, hid a Short Sword within her dress, and outlined her figure once more before putting on a Veil, her face flushed.
The Veil was like Mist itself, and her figure slowly faded from the room, leaving behind only a silvery peal of laughter: “Charlotte… Death God is here to collect~”
And then, even the sound drifted away and disappeared….
In the silent night, Charlotte sat in the pavilion in his courtyard, waiting for tonight’s unexpected guest.
“Charlotte, I sense a familiar presence!” Aifel suddenly popped out of the Star Ring.
“A familiar presence? What is it?”
Aifel’s eyes lit up. “Divine Artifact! Mist God’s Legacy!”
“A new Divine Artifact has appeared?” Charlotte instantly became alert.
“How interesting… searching high and low, only to find it without effort? Aifel, tell me where it is. At the very least, I want to know who carries it.” Charlotte was itching for action.
“It seems to be getting closer and closer to us…”
Bella now stood at the gate to Charlotte’s mansion, gazing at the building.
“My prey… have you hidden well? Don’t be frightened when I suddenly show up….”
Her eyes sparkled; her favorite game of cat and mouse was about to begin.
Oh, that pitiful little mouse didn’t even know death was at his door.
She’d make sure he died running in despair and terror.
Bella saw Charlotte standing in the courtyard, and excitedly approached.
“You even picked such a lovely spot—perfect as your grave.”
She circled Charlotte, while he continued to gaze at the moon, oblivious to her presence. He couldn’t see her, nor could he hear her voice.
Bella’s smile deepened.
She was about to start her favorite chase.
“Hmm… how should I appear before you? Should I stage a little play? Or maybe act as an adoring young lady?”
She practiced at the side, picking a few fresh flowers and holding them in her hands.
“Charlotte~ Charlotte~ I actually liked you long ago, may I get to know you?”
She acted like a fangirl meeting her idol, her purple eyes full of worship.
“To express my longing, I’ll give you these flowers—will you accept them?”
Bella quickly composed herself, tilting her head.
“Hmm… is that too over the top? Would he think I’m a frivolous woman? One of those love-crazy types? But if I’m not fast enough… he’ll be dead soon.”
“Though he’s my first love, there’s nothing to be done, right?”
“My poor first love, sorry, but you have to die tonight~”
Bella leaned in close to Charlotte, examining the Marquis’s profile.
She had to admit, Charlotte was truly handsome, and quite manly.
Charlotte and Aifel, to the side, were both a little dumbfounded.
Then Aifel burst out laughing. “Hahahahaha, what is this woman doing?”
Charlotte shot Aifel an annoyed look, clearly finding her too noisy.
Honestly, Bella’s antics just now had indeed been funny. If Charlotte wasn’t so stone-faced, he probably would have laughed out loud.
Charlotte sent a thought transmission to Aifel: “Alright, stop fooling around. Go back to the ring and behave. I want to see what she’ll do next.”
He still needed to play along and see what other tricks this woman had up her sleeve.
Bella removed her Veil.
In Charlotte’s eyes, the Mist cloaking Bella’s figure dispersed, revealing her adorable face and the White Lace Dress she wore.
Bella spun in place, showing off her charms.
Under the moonlight, the back of Bella’s dress was cut down to her hips, even revealing a glimpse of cleavage, with a slit cut dangerously high. It seemed any bigger movement would expose her.
Aside from not quite filling out the chest, her figure was otherwise very good.
“Good evening, Marquis Charlotte~”
