Chapter 31: Containment Failure of the Evil-Eyed Worm

“As for you.”

Messiah seemed too lazy to exchange even another word with Rui Ze.

She simply threw a punch.

An ordinary punch, but the force of it was terrifying—a booming sound rang out.

Instantly, a pit hundreds of meters deep and too long to see its end appeared in front of Messiah.

Rui Ze’s figure had long since vanished.

Messiah lowered her fist and shifted her gaze to the Evil-Eyed Worm, which was still crawling off into the distance on its own.

“Your master never cared about you at all.”

The Evil-Eyed Worm kept swaying its head.

Bit by bit, its body hidden beneath the fissure squeezed its way out.

Just as it was writhing with enthusiasm, a shadow fell over most of its head.

Its view was blocked.

Millions upon millions of the Evil-Eyed Worm’s eyes spun frantically, searching.

All it saw—

A coffin from the sky was coming straight for it.

Messiah burst with strength, twisting her waist, but used so much force that the ribs of this body pierced through flesh.

They jutted out.

The enormous coffin smashed directly down onto the Evil-Eyed Worm’s head.

The terrible power and impact made the Evil-Eyed Worm’s body tremble ever so slightly.

Then, nothing else happened.

Messiah looked calmly at the unknown being before her, countless times larger than herself.

She hoisted the coffin with one hand and raised her hand—now numb from the impact—to check it.

She fell into brief contemplation.

“So now even Newton’s coffin can’t be held down—Newton’s Third Law is being completely ignored.”

“It seems simple physical attacks are useless against an existence of this level.”

“That means the Goddess of Fertility and the Watcher are probably even more helpless.”

Saying this, she noticed this body was being polluted and twisted.

It had even begun to grow evil eyes.

“This body is useless now. I might as well see if I can take control of it.”

A certain excitement flashed through the pure white eyes of Messiah.

If she could control the body of an evil god, and use it properly—

Then perhaps she would never have to worry about containment issues again.

Humanity’s fate would no longer rest in the hands of unknown beings.

She slammed the coffin onto the ground, then shot herself like a cannonball toward the Evil-Eyed Worm.

The Evil-Eyed Worm had just suffered a coffin to the head.

Already irritated, it remembered being toyed with by Zogg.

And how it had been hunted by that even more powerful ancient evil, fleeing out into the cosmos.

Its rage could not be quelled.

Summoned here by sacrificial ritual to an unknown planet, it had been hoping for a feast—but all its good mood was gone in an instant.

Its mind filled with one thought: “Kill the creature that provoked me.”

The Evil-Eyed Worm opened its giant maw.

Roaring, it stared at Messiah, as tiny as a mote of dust.

Then, at blinding speed, it whipped its head around and slithered over.

But Messiah only greeted it with a smile.

And smashed headlong into the Evil-Eyed Worm’s head—dying instantly.

Sensing the creature attacking it was dead, the worm was still not satisfied. It shook its head violently, roaring in anger.

As if declaring its sovereignty.

Terrifying corruption spread through its voice, radiating out across the world.

The earth was blanketed in a layer of crimson slime.

But in the next instant—

The Evil-Eyed Worm suddenly stopped its frenzied behavior.

Twisting its head, it charged toward the coffin, which had opened at some unknown point.

No matter how gigantic the Evil-Eyed Worm’s body was, the coffin could still contain it.

As if the inside held infinite space.

Rain sat atop a sky-piercing tree, anxiously watching the scene.

She did not call upon the Goddess of Fertility for Divine Descent—because Messiah had stopped her.

Because Messiah wanted to try and contain the Evil-Eyed Worm.

Rain felt it was a little unreliable, but she was still hopeful.

If it succeeded, it would be nothing but beneficial.

Just as most of the Evil-Eyed Worm’s body was about to be swallowed up by the coffin—

It suddenly stopped.

The part of its body still stuck in the fissure got caught, unable to move forward.

It seemed to be caught in some strange equilibrium.

After dozens of seconds of deadlock, the Evil-Eyed Worm finally moved.

It yanked its body out of the coffin with explosive force.

Like a bullet train hurtling through a tunnel.

Messiah’s consciousness immediately attached itself to a polluted body far away.

With several great leaps, she swiftly arrived at the tree where Rain sat.

“Failed. Most of this filthy worm’s body doesn’t exist in this universe—I can’t seize control of it.”

Rain looked at Messiah’s new body, nodding gravely.

Messiah was capable of containing the Evil-Eyed Worm.

But she’d have to wait until its entire body descended—and at that moment, the parallel Blue Star would be destroyed.

“I will request a Divine Descent from the Goddess.”

“Alright.”

Very soon, the Evil-Eyed Worm seemed to lock onto Messiah’s presence.

It looked straight at the tree where Rain sat.

“I’ll hold it off. Hurry.”

Messiah leapt up. The two exchanged no more words.

Rain nodded solemnly, then closed her eyes and began to chant softly.

“Great Goddess of Fertility, Lady Ymir!

You bring prosperity to the world and vitality to all things. You are the Sower of Life!”

“Please hear my prayer!”

When she finished, Rain’s vision suddenly brightened.

It was as if she had entered a kingdom brimming with life.

The Goddess of Fertility stood by a spring, dressed in her familiar attire.

Yet her presence remained gentle and warm.

As if she had been waiting for Rain.

Rain hurried over to Lu Ming, then respectfully knelt on one knee.

“Lady Ymir, your envoy Rain requests your Divine Descent!”

“Blue Star is facing an unprecedented crisis!”

Lu Ming turned around and looked kindly at Rain.

He reached out to stroke her cheek, then pulled her up and pointed at the spring.

“Rain, what do you see here?”

Rain looked at the spring in puzzlement.

The clear surface of the water was like a mirror, reflecting her face perfectly.

“I see… me?”

Then she suddenly saw, just behind her face, Lu Ming’s blurred features.

So gentle, so intoxicating.

He watched her quietly.

All Rain felt was peace and joy.

A sense that life should always be so beautiful rose in her mind.

“No, I see… life!”

Rain’s eyes sparkled, and a strange sense of enlightenment blossomed in her heart.

Lu Ming couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow, giving Rain a surprised look.

He wasn’t sure if this girl had truly seen something, or if she was just spouting nonsense.

But that’s what she truly believed.

“For Divine Descent, not only does the god expend a massive amount of divine power—the host must also pay a price.”

“Your level is too low. It might cost you your lifespan, your limbs, even your life.”

“I am willing!”

“The reason I am willing to give my life is precisely because I cherish life!”
