“Damn it! So hot, so hot!” Lianjian was shaken by the Hongshan Dragon’s blast, yelping loudly.
As the second weakest in defense on the team, she had drifted to the rear line during the fight, trying to avoid the brunt and slack off a bit.
The backline of the Lost Beast squad was manned by Frost Magician Xueyuedai and Bard Feini.
Even our beloved Captain, the Flame Magician Shijietang Simon, had rushed up to the frontline to engage the enemy.
But when Xueyuedai and Feini were left alone together, the atmosphere became indescribably awkward.
The two of them stood five meters apart, avoiding each other’s gaze, too nervous to meet each other’s eyes.
“?” Lianjian edged closer to feel out their mood, but without turning her head, she dashed off again, diving back into the fray.
She would rather be blasted to the ground by Hongshan Dragon’s shockwaves than exchange even half a word with those two gloomy types.
Back to the Hongshan Dragon—this thing was basically a land battleship. Its body was massive, but its movements were exceedingly slow.
However, it had a special ability: the jets of heat it released from the seams in its scales, which could strike everywhere at once, easily wiping out any weak creatures.
Anyone in a melee profession needed enough defensive power to get close to the Hongshan Dragon.
That was the bare minimum for a battle of this scale.
And the scalding air shooting out from the dragon scale gaps was, in fact, Dragon Breath.
There are at least a thousand monsters in the world with dragon-like forms, but only a select few are recognized as true dragons.
The most critical and widely accepted standard is whether or not they can use Dragon Breath.
Of course, there were mutant dragons like the Red Dragon that couldn’t use Dragon Breath, but those were rare exceptions.
“Aiya!” Yeqi braced herself in a sturdy stance, standing inside the Dragon Breath as if taking a bath, her whole body smoking as she stubbornly endured it.
“Are you trying to die? Fall back, now.” Qingshamu reached out and dragged the bull-headed Yeqi back—any longer in there, and she’d be roasted.
Truthfully, even the Hero herself was struggling.
Facing the full-screen Dragon Breath attack of the Hongshan Dragon, she couldn’t withstand it without using Dark Moon Magic, but if she used her magic, she’d give herself away.
For now, she had to act as dead weight at the back.
The Golden Fang Beast Sisters and Qingshamu couldn’t get close to the Hongshan Dragon, so they couldn’t attack it either.
All they could do was wait for the others to stagger the boss so they could go on the offensive.
In the Lost Beast squad, only two people could truly threaten the Hongshan Dragon—White Feather Dove Bai Yuge · Rose and Shijietang Simon.
The reason was simple: both of them had cast Magic Shields on themselves, able to effectively block the full-screen Dragon Breath.
They were also tough enough physically. Unlike Xueyuedai, who could use Magic Shield but could only watch from the rear, they could hold their ground.
“Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!”
Especially Bai Yuge · Rose, who was darting around the Hongshan Dragon, her Rune Sword slicing out waves of Anmoon Sword Qi, cutting through the blasts of Dragon Breath and carving out space for her teammates—a real team player.
“[Frost Arrow—Infinite Volley].”
Xueyuedai stopped slacking and began chanting an extended incantation from atop a distant hill.
Instantly, the air around her turned frigid, and massive icicles formed in the sky, launching towards the Hongshan Dragon.
But her frost magic was naturally countered by the scorching Dragon Breath—the ice arrows melted before they could land, doing no real damage.
Yet, even as the ice melted, it left a lingering mist, cooling the battlefield and making things much more bearable for her teammates and the environment. It wasn’t useless after all.
She had never expected ordinary ice arrows to harm the magic-resistant Hongshan Dragon. Supporting her teammates and relieving some pressure was all she could do as a backline magician.
This battle wasn’t going to end quickly; it would be a drawn-out war of attrition.
And what was our main heroine, Shijietang Simon, doing?
She stood directly in front of the Hongshan Dragon, facing its massive, wall-like head, covered in a Flame Shield as she withstood the heavy Dragon Breath.
Every breath the Hongshan Dragon took looked like it was spewing Dragon Breath, but it hadn’t actually attacked yet.
From the very start, it had been simply observing its opponents.
The small figure before it made the Hongshan Dragon feel a faint sense of danger. For the first time in centuries, its mind, dormant for so long, was stirred.
It had only one question in its mind…
What kind of dragon are you?
It had lived for thousands of years and had never seen such a bizarre dragon.
“Senior, please grant me your guidance,” Shijietang muttered quietly.
In the next instant, she dispelled her Flame Magic Shield, stepping up to the Hongshan Dragon’s Dragon Breath, taking it head-on with her bare body, unwavering and completely unaffected.
For Shijietang, the Flame Magic Shield was a pure hindrance; her body’s defenses were far superior to any shield. Her smooth skin was tougher than city walls.
And in fact, the Flame Magician’s magic shield was the weakest among all elemental magics—nothing like the ultimate defenses of the Frost Magician or Mountain Magician.
The core of flame magic was still all about explosive power!
But in truth, Shijietang wasn’t even good at those so-called fireburst spells.
She only knew a few showy Dragon Breath fire spells—just for intimidation, not her real strength.
“Fire! Fire!”
Suddenly, flames erupted from both of Shijietang’s arms, compressing the terrifying Dragon Breath into her hands, transforming her fists into Enflamed Fists.
From a distance, Feini saw this scene and instinctively pressed her thighs together, shrinking back in phantom pain.
That move was the one that had crushed her sword hilt to pieces.
“Bang! Bang!”
Shijietang shot up, rocketing into the sky, flipping upside-down in midair, and spiraling down like a Fire Dragon Spin, smashing two fully-charged punches onto the Hongshan Dragon’s skull.
It was unbelievable! The scene looked like two cruise missiles detonating on top of the Hongshan Dragon’s head!
Those two strikes slammed the dragon’s skull deep into the ground, the power was staggering.
Everyone was stunned—was this really an adventurer? Was this really a magician?
“Bang bang! Bang bang! Bang bang! Bang bang!”
And it wasn’t over yet. Shijietang straddled the dragon’s head and unleashed a flurry of machine-gun punches, hammering away with relentless force at the Hongshan Dragon’s crown.
Unlike the lesser Steelback Dragons, the Hongshan Dragon’s crown had no scale gaps, no weak points; its crown scales were the toughest part of its whole body.
But Shijietang was striking right at the hardest dragon scales, determined to test whether her Enflamed Fist could shatter the thousand-year-old dragon’s ultimate defense.
Everyone was dumbstruck…
Be it the beast girls or the Kingdom Knights, all of them were terrified by the sudden burst of Enflamed Fist.
“Something’s wrong! Everyone, run! Feini, get out of there!”
Qingshamu’s Hero Radar was flashing wildly as she shouted in a hoarse voice, though no one could make out her words.
“Bzzz! Bzzz! Bzzz!”
Sure enough, in the next moment, crimson light surged from the gaps in all the Hongshan Dragon’s scales, accompanied by that familiar, uncanny electronic drone.
Yes, that was the sound of a devastating power-up, unmistakably charging up for an all-out blast.
