Seeing Colin’s resolute determination to stay, Larian found herself at a loss.
Although she was Colin’s master and was at the same level 80 as him, she was no longer young. Colin was definitely stronger than her now. If Colin didn’t want to do something, she had no way to force him.
But just because she had no solution didn’t mean others didn’t. Colin didn’t only care about her in this place; if he would stay for her, wouldn’t he leave for them? The answer was obvious.
“Colin, I know what you’re thinking. But even if it’s for us, you also have to think about them. They shouldn’t die here. If you truly care about them, then come up with me and them!”
Larian’s tone grew commanding by the end, hoping Colin would understand her sincere intentions.
Yet Colin’s expression remained unchanged upon hearing this. After dispatching another enemy, he said without turning back, “They have long since prepared themselves. It’s not something I can stop. Since they chose to fight alongside me, I have no reason to hold them back.”
Hearing this, Larian finally understood Colin and their mindset. She parted her lips, wanting to say something, but ultimately nothing came out, only a helpless, bitter smile.
Colin then turned to face Larian, offering a reassuring smile as if to comfort her. “Besides, Master, since when did you become so timid? How could you think we can’t defeat this group? Here we have the captain of the Holy Knights and the strongest paladin of our time! Don’t worry! We will definitely overcome this difficulty! No matter what, I will make sure you all survive!”
Listening to Colin’s words, which felt both comforting and encouraging, Larian was at a loss for words. She could only utter her last trump card, though it felt utterly meaningless.
“…What if—I mean, if—the worst really happens? What then?”
At these words, Colin’s smile vanished, but without hesitation, he firmly declared, “If such a thing happens, I will risk everything to find a way to get them and the entire knights’ order through. I will stop everything.”
Hearing this, Larian knew nothing she said would matter anymore. She sighed helplessly and quickly forced a hearty laugh.
“Hahaha! My beloved disciple, you’re right! How could this bunch be a match for the two of us? Let’s charge on! Let’s chop them all to bits!”
After speaking, Larian and Colin exchanged a glance, seeing only battle fervor in each other’s eyes. They smiled at one another, preparing to charge back into the fray together.
But at that moment, Hevani suddenly darted out from the side, casting magic while loudly shouting at the two of them, “Wait a moment! I have an idea! It might just solve our current predicament!”
Upon hearing Hevani, Colin and Larian exchanged a glance before quickly moving toward her, slaying several enemies along the way.
Only after Colin unleashed “Divine Nova” to temporarily push back the enemies did he join Larian at Hevani’s side to hear her proposed solution to their dire situation.
Seeing Colin and Larian arrive, Hevani wasted no time and laid out her plan.
“You’ve probably all noticed, right? Behind that massive gate is an overwhelmingly powerful evil aura stirring violently! Colin, you know about it—the terrifying abyss beyond. If we can find a way to get that ‘Infinite Descender’ to cross over, we can break free of this predicament!”
After hearing Hevani’s plan, Colin and Larian frowned simultaneously. It wasn’t that the idea was impossible, but it was far too idealistic.
Never mind how they could handle the ‘Infinite Descender,’ even if they managed to get to the other side, how could they be sure the enemies wouldn’t follow?
What if the ancient mages could create a bridge-like magic? Or what if those armored “Qingtong” warriors and the strange humanoids with iron cages on their heads—renowned for their incredible jumping ability—could simply leap over?
After all, the Holy Knights could cross. So what reason would those enemies, who aren’t much weaker than the knights, have to be unable to?
Hevani’s plan was less of a method and more a pure fantasy. It was far too unstable.
Seeing Colin and Larian hesitate, Hevani drew her trump card.
“What are you hesitating for? Do you have any other ideas? This is the best we can do right now!”
With Hevani’s words, and enemies beginning to break through Colin’s “Divine Nova” barrier, Colin and Larian reluctantly agreed to the plan.
Once they consented, Hevani wasted no time. She cast a spell, sending a faintly glowing orb to notify Liamy, Elinor, and Lavinia to return.
Before long, Colin’s team was reunited.
Seeing this, Larian already knew what to do next. Colin furrowed his brow slightly but said nothing, leading the way toward the small gap beneath the gate.
Although Liamy and the others had just been summoned back and didn’t yet know their orders, their trust in Colin and Hevani left them with no hesitation as they followed behind.
Meanwhile, Larian ordered the Holy Knights to prepare for a brutal fight, determined to hold back their foes and buy Colin and the others time.
As more enemies broke through Colin’s “Divine Nova,” he stopped wasting mana to maintain the divine spell.
Once the spell ended, enemies surged forward like crashing waves again.
But the Holy Knights, with bodies and faith even stronger than the tide of enemies, held the line, ready to endure until Colin completed his mission!
Larian herself no longer conserved energy. She unleashed her divine magic and swordsmanship with full force, standing at the forefront of the Holy Knights, wildly slashing at the enemy.
She felt as if she had returned to her youth—back in the time of the War of Humans and Demons, when she fought the demon general Ferux. That was the most glorious moment of her life.
Although the enemies before her now were unworthy even to tie Ferux’s shoes, she was no longer the once-radiant “Brilliant Knight” she had been then.
She was a man past his prime, soon to reach his sixtieth year… Wait, she wasn’t an old man now—she was a young beautiful maiden?
After slaying another wave of enemies, Larian suddenly realized a fact she had long ignored. She had indeed been an old man past his prime, but now she had become a young beautiful maiden! If that was the case…
Larian casually sliced one of the “Qingtong” armored warriors in half. Seeing this, joy blossomed across her face, and she began to rejoice over the trap she had fallen into.
Sure enough! I’ve become young again! If I’m young, then defeating these bastards isn’t impossible!
With this thought, Larian turned back to face the endless black shadows. A faint smile lifted the corners of her mouth as she touched her beloved sword, her heart stirred with excitement. It had been a long time since she’d felt this youthful. Even if she were to die here, she could die with no regrets.
But she would not die here. Colin still needed his master to teach him many more things! Before Colin learned all she had to offer, she absolutely could not perish!
With that thought, Larian raised her sword once more, standing at the very front of the Holy Knights—the first to confront the endless waves of black.
