Chapter 23: Good Brothers

“You’re thinking too far ahead.”

Red pushed Tos away, who was about to press right up against his face.

“I’m completely innocent with her.”

“Wait a minute.”

Tos snapped out of his year-long state of shock.

He held his head, still unable to believe what he was hearing.

“Red… are you sure you’re not lying to me?”

“What benefit would I get from lying to you?”

Red sighed.

“Do you think you’d actually give me money?”

“But this just doesn’t make sense!”

Tos glanced at the smiling Sister White nearby, then back at Red.

He truly couldn’t understand. Among all those beautiful girls in Dawn’s Edge, Red hadn’t gotten close to a single one.

Yet no sooner had he quit the team than he was already involved with such a stunning nun.

“Come on, spill it,” Tos reached out his hand.

“Where did you get this ***?”

“Do you really think I’m that much of a beast?”

Red was speechless at his good brother’s suspicion.

After pushing him away, he continued.

“I’m telling you, we’re totally innocent. She’s my landlady, I’m her tenant. It’s that simple. None of the dirty stuff you’re imagining.”

Just as Red was about to say more, Litt, who was picking out a bed, spoke up.

“Red, what do you think of this double bed? I really like this style.”

Red turned toward the voice.

Litt was already lying on the soft mattress, making space beside her.

“You should come lie down and try it. It’s really soft.”

Before Red could respond, he suddenly felt a dark murderous intent behind him.

A hand bulging with veins landed on his shoulder.

“Why don’t you repeat what you just said? Completely innocent?”

Tos said with a fake smile, his tone cold.

“I was worried a few days ago when you quit the team, thinking you might be in trouble… so that’s how it is…”

“Damn you, listen to my explanation!”

Red struggled to pry the ghostly hand off his shoulder and said to Litt over there.

“A single bed will do! My room can’t fit a bed this big.”

If he didn’t explain soon, Red felt his good brother, now turned vengeful spirit, might really come after his life.

But Litt didn’t seem to get his meaning.

She stuck out her tongue playfully and said,

“Maybe… you’ll need it someday?”

“Red, come with me.”

The ghost’s grip on his shoulder tightened.

“Wait! Wait! I’m really completely innocent!”

With a scream, Red was dragged into the darkness of the inner room.

Litt blinked and looked toward the direction Red disappeared with an innocent expression.

Hey~

Not gonna lie, this is pretty fun.

“Well… but Red is such a coward, I bet he wouldn’t dare buy it anyway.”

Litt lay back on the double bed and slowly closed her eyes.

Ever since the script appeared in her mind, she had nightmares every night.

The bloody and terrifying scenes always jolted her awake.

Otherwise, with her lazy dog personality, how could she possibly get up early every morning to make breakfast for Red?

Even now, the script’s words and vivid scenes kept flooding her mind.

Whenever she closed her eyes, screams and wails never ceased, blood and carnage quickly stained the entire world red.

So far, everything was unfolding exactly according to the script.

From the moment Litt and Red clashed, her choice to stop recruiting and maintain the status quo already showed this.

Although she had temporarily taken the place of the script’s white moonlight, it seemed the storyline had been corrected, with no deviation at all.

Litt knew well that with the current team setup—only four people and no thorough plan—entering the dungeon was nothing short of a death sentence.

She didn’t want to die.

She only wanted to live.

No matter the cost, as long as she could survive…

Inside the inner room.

Tos and Red stood facing each other, neither showing much expression.

“Red, don’t you think this is weird?”

“Weird how?”

“I mean, a guy like you—neither ugly nor handsome—actually managing to find such a pretty girlfriend? Back in Dawn’s Edge, why were you still single all that time?”

Tos just couldn’t understand, no matter how hard he tried.

“So, have you learned some kind of hypnosis? You better tell me.”

“You’re just looking for trouble, aren’t you?”

Red frowned.

“I already said, my relationship with Litt isn’t what you think. Listen, I’ll keep it short…”

To avoid his good brother getting jealous, Red summarized as briefly as possible how he met Litt and what had happened.

“So what you’re saying is, you’ve known her less than a week, she saw you had no place to live, and invited you to stay at her place?”

“That’s exactly it.”

“I see…”

Tos nodded, then slammed his hand on the table.

“You’re trying to fool ghosts!”

After venting, Tos leaned against the wall.

His face shifted, and he said calmly,

“Pinch me, Red. Don’t you find it strange?”

“At first, I thought it was a bit odd why she was so nice to me.”

Red nodded too and joked,

“But then I thought, maybe it’s because I’m good-looking.”

“Can you have some shame?”

Tos showed no mercy to his good brother.

“Use your toes to think, is that even possible?”

“But besides that, is there any other possibility?”

Red said helplessly.

“I’m broke. What could she want from me?”

“Although you’re broke, your body is still worth a lot after it’s divided.”

“You mother…”

Red couldn’t help but flip his good brother the middle finger.

But Tos was unfazed.

“Speaking of which, why did you leave Dawn’s Edge? That personality of yours shouldn’t do that. And even if you planned to retire and enjoy life, finding a wife there wouldn’t be a bad idea, right? After all, you’ve been with those girls for years, you know them well.”

Saying that, Tos elbowed Red mischievously.

“For me, that Letia in Dawn’s Edge is pretty good. She even came to buy a bed from me before.”

“This… better not ask too much about Dawn’s Edge affairs.”

Red shook his head wryly.

“As for Letia, I advise you not to get your hopes up. She’s into girls.”

“That… that’s impossible!”

Tos dropped to his knees like the sky was falling.

“Yuri and stuff? It’s a waste of good things!”

“Boss?”

At that moment, Litt’s voice came from outside.

“Are you guys done in there?”

“Coming, coming!”

Tos shouted outside, then said to Red, “Let’s go pick your bed.”

The two walked out of the inner room.

Litt had been waiting outside for some time.

Red looked around and pointed to a bed.

“Tos, I’ll take that single bed…”

“The one Miss Litt just picked is really nice. I’ll bring it to you later.”

“Hey, I don’t have that much money on me.”

Red was about to say more, but Tos cut him off quietly.

“We’re brothers. No matter what you went through in Dawn’s Edge, I’ll help where I can. If this Miss Litt is genuinely good to you, you better do your best to win her over. I’ll be rooting for you.”
