The word “responsibility” was bitten off heavily by Lin Mo, filled with ambiguous and unclear implications, rippling through the air in waves that made hearts skip a beat.
“Lin Mo! You… let go!”
Her voice softened without her even realizing it, no longer sounding like a command but more like a powerless plea.
Even the foot Lin Mo held in his hand trembled violently.
Chu You felt all the blood rush to her cheeks, burning fiercely—especially when Lin Mo’s warm breath brushed against the skin on the top of her foot, a sensation more unsettling than a direct touch.
Lin Mo looked up, emotions swirling in his eyes that Chu You failed to detect, yet a faint smile curved at the corner of his lips, irritating her even more.
“Senior sister smells so good~”.
Lin Mo’s tone was calm, as if stating an objective fact.
After speaking, he finally loosened his grip slightly but didn’t completely let go of her slender ankle.
His fingertips lingered, tracing circles with an undeniable presence.
“Pervert! Scoundrel!” Chu You took the chance to jerk her foot away sharply, curling up quickly in the corner of the sofa and pressing a pillow tightly against her still-flushed face, only letting her eyes glare at Lin Mo with a mixture of shame and anger.
Seeing her fierce yet timid expression, Lin Mo chuckled softly, no longer pressing forward but instead rising calmly to his feet.
“I’ll get you a glass of water to cool down, senior sister…” Lin Mo’s expression was casual, but his tone carried a teasing note, “Your face is all red, tsk~”
With that, he turned and walked toward the kitchen.
Chu You pressed her lips together and stared at Lin Mo’s retreating figure, silently cursing him with her mouth.
Her heart pounded like a drum, refusing to calm down for a long time.
Taking a deep breath, she looked down at her ankle—seemingly still holding the warmth of Lin Mo’s fingertips, along with that tingling, electrifying sensation left from being touched.
Damn it!
Lin Mo was getting bolder and bolder!
But what annoyed Chu You the most was…
Against Lin Mo’s shamelessly flirtatious behavior, her heart didn’t seem to resist so strongly.
Lost in these tangled thoughts, Lin Mo returned from the kitchen carrying a glass of water.
Chu You quickly adjusted her expression, though the redness on her cheeks was still obvious.
She deliberately avoided his gaze.
Lin Mo bent down calmly and placed the glass on the coffee table in front of her.
The atmosphere thickened awkwardly.
To break the silence, Chu You pulled her thoughts back to the main issue and brought up Xia Ji: “What do you think? Does Xia Ji have problems or not?”
Lin Mo sat down on the single sofa beside her, his expression regaining some of its usual calmness.
“I don’t know, but if she really does have issues, then everything you’ve experienced since you enrolled yesterday until now might have been part of her plan.”
“Sigh…” Chu You sighed softly, “I hope she’s innocent. But if even that pitiful act of hers was a carefully crafted performance, then…”
“Like when senior sister faked her death to trick me?” Lin Mo blurted out almost instinctively, his tone flat but like a needle that pierced through the walls Chu You had just built around her heart.
Chu You suddenly looked up, meeting Lin Mo’s unreadable gaze, her heart tightening.
She opened her mouth, the words of defense tumbling in her throat, stammering, “I—I had my reasons for doing that.”
“Hm.” Lin Mo responded indifferently, cutting her off, leaning back into the sofa as if unwilling to say more.
Yet this noncommittal attitude was like a bucket of cold water that instantly doused Chu You’s willingness to communicate, instead fueling her temper.
“What do you mean, ‘hm’?”
Chu You straightened up, sharply questioning, “And you have the nerve to accuse me? I even told you my biggest secret about not being human, and you still set up surveillance to catch me near the library? Who’s really in the wrong here, Lin Mo!”
“I’m just responding casually, don’t think too much into it.” Lin Mo’s tone grew even more detached.
Chu You frowned, not letting up: “Stop spouting nonsense. You chased me all the way to Binhai, threatened me into doing this and that, obviously holding a grudge, right?”
“That’s all in the past, senior sister. I forgot about it too, since you didn’t bring it up.”
“Then let me go!”
“…Hm, I’ll consider it.”
“You!!”
After a few barbed exchanges, the living room fell into a suffocating silence.
Chu You suddenly stood up, chest heaving fiercely, glaring sharply at Lin Mo before turning and storming back to her room, slamming the door shut with a loud bang.
That bastard Lin Mo.
Pretending to be all calm and collected here—what kind of hero is that?
Chu You ground her teeth, vowing that once her Oracle awakened again, she’d make sure to pay back every humiliation she suffered from Lin Mo tenfold or even a hundredfold!
Leaning against the cold door, Chu You suddenly felt a wave of dizziness and heat wash over her.
This intense discomfort was far stronger than when Lin Mo had just teased her.
What’s going on?!
Her vision blurred, accompanied by heart palpitations, cold sweat dripping down her cheeks.
She shook her head, trying to dispel the unease, but an unfamiliar, wild power surged within her like a dam breaking loose.
Her demon bloodline was losing control.
Without her own Oracle to suppress it, every use risked awakening the hidden ** in her blood.
“Ugh…”
Chu You curled up in pain, feeling her bones emit faint groans.
A peach-red glow began spreading at the edges of her vision, and a tearing pain burst in her lower back and waist.
Instinctively, she turned around and saw a large, fluffy fox tail—nonhuman and uncontrollable—growing and stretching out from her coccyx!
Her rationality was rapidly collapsing, her demon bloodline’s power thrashing wildly.
Before her consciousness was completely swallowed by the source, Chu You summoned her last ounce of strength, staggered to twist the door handle, and stumbled outside.
Almost simultaneously, Lin Mo, who had been sitting on the sofa, sprang to his feet.
Sensing the outburst of uncontrollable, powerful demon bloodline energy, his face darkened as he rushed over—immediately spotting Chu You collapsed in the hallway, her pupils covered by a strange peach-red hue, her fox tail swinging uncontrollably behind her.
Chu You’s vision blurred, but she saw a familiar figure.
With her last breath, she parted her lips and silently whispered two words: “Save me…”
Then her body went limp and fell forward.
Lin Mo was quick and steady, catching her firmly before she hit the ground.
Feeling the turbulent source within her, Lin Mo furrowed his brow and immediately summoned his own Oracle power, gently yet firmly channeling it into Chu You’s body, trying to guide and calm the restless fox demon bloodline.
“Don’t be afraid, senior sister…” he murmured softly, holding her securely, patting her back over and over with a gentleness that was a stark contrast to before.
However, the deranged Chu You seemed to mistake his soothing as a restraint.
Her demon instincts sought a more direct release.
Something smells so good…
Hungry.
Mmm… just want to take a bite, just one bite.
Suddenly, she lifted her head, her peach-red pupils dull and unfocused, and bit down hard on Lin Mo’s collarbone within reach!
Sharpened fangs pierced through cloth and skin, warm blood instantly seeping out and spreading.
Lin Mo’s body tensed instantly, but not a single frown appeared on his face.
Instead, the arms holding her tightened even more.
He continued to maintain the flow of his Oracle power, even more tenderly than before, not stopping the gentle pats on her back, as if the sharp pain on his collarbone didn’t exist.
“It’s okay now…”
Lin Mo repeated, his voice low and gentle, like soothing a frightened, bristling little beast, letting her fangs sink deep, the blood soaking through his clothes.
“I’m here, senior sister, don’t be afraid…”
“It will pass soon.”
