But this time, Feini had barely taken a few steps outside when Qingshamu caught her, pressing her hard against the wall with a fierce glare.
“Stop right there! Where did you go yesterday? Were you leaking information?” she demanded.
“I’m done with you. Don’t talk to me,” Feini snapped, not wanting to get tangled up with her.
“Done? Do you even understand your situation? Do you think I’m playing friend games with you?” Qingshamu’s usual gentleness was gone, replaced by cold ruthlessness.
“I’m wearing this thing now. I won’t betray you. What more do you want?” Feini shot back.
“I want you to help me find the Northern Demon King,” Qingshamu said coldly. “You have no right to refuse my orders. Otherwise, I could kill you right now and no one would know.”
“I’m busy. Kill me if you want,” Feini bristled, pushed to the edge. But thinking of her two kids waiting for her, she reluctantly backed down. “Fine, how do you want me to help?”
“You help me get close to those Great Beasts and verify their true identities.” Qingshamu pulled out a Beast Detection Box.
“You’re basically sending me to die,” Feini clenched her fists in anger but, her life in someone else’s hands, she had no choice but to take the box.
“You have to activate the box within three meters of them, and it will automatically collect information,” Qingshamu explained the device’s function.
“Got it,” Feini said and turned to leave.
“I’m not done. You must be very careful. The sensing ability of Great Beasts is incredibly strong. Unlike you, if they detect you, you’re as good as dead.” Qingshamu grabbed her hand.
“Don’t worry. Even if I get caught, I won’t betray you,” Feini said, shaking her hand off and walking away.
Qingshamu’s hand froze in midair, feeling an emptiness inside.
But she slowly withdrew her hand into a fist, pushing away any unnecessary sympathy.
Her plan was to send Feini to die anyway—if discovered, sacrificing her alone was acceptable, using her as a pawn.
Besides, Qingshamu was secretly tailing Feini, watching her every move.
—————
Meanwhile, Feini had already thought of a plan.
She could quietly get close to those people while waiting to deliver food.
After an ordinary class, she went to the High-Level Demon Beast Cafeteria as usual to deliver takeout.
After running back and forth several times, she noticed that the Ten-Step Hall group always came to the cafeteria to eat at fixed seats, and they spent quite some time chatting after sitting down.
Feini arrived just before the food was ready and sat behind them, pretending to rest while secretly activating the Beast Detection Box to gather information.
“Feini.” A familiar voice called out, making Feini’s hair stand on end.
She turned slightly toward the shining figure, forcing a smile. “Hello, Simon.”
“We’re roommates. Just call me Ten-Step Hall,” Simon sat down next to Feini, acting overly familiar, probably thinking no one would refuse her.
“Simon, it’s better we keep our distance,” Feini replied coldly. “I can tell your friends don’t want to accept me. High-Level Demon Beasts shouldn’t mix with lower ones like me; it drags down their reputation.”
“How’s your child?” Simon asked awkwardly.
“Good,” Feini answered with one word.
“That’s good,” Simon, usually talkative, was at a loss for words.
“I have to deliver food. Goodbye.” Feini didn’t want to talk more and stood to leave.
But before getting up, she performed a quick sleight of hand, hiding the box under the table.
Simon reluctantly returned to her small group’s table.
Though others couldn’t tell, Xueyuedai could see Simon’s mood was a bit low.
Her concerns were right—the delivery girl was trouble. They couldn’t afford to wait any longer.
……
On the other side, Feini was rushing to deliver orders, extremely busy.
Just as she was about to go back for the next delivery, Qingshamu suddenly appeared and blocked her path.
“You’re following me?” Feini asked.
“What are you doing?” Qingshamu retorted coldly.
“I’m delivering food.” Feini passed by her.
“Have you forgotten your mission?” Qingshamu whispered next to her. “Are you messing with me? Don’t waste my time. Don’t forget I can kill you anytime.”
“I need to make money to eat. If you won’t let me, just kill me now. Either way, I’ll starve to death,” Feini snorted.
“You…” Qingshamu was speechless for a moment but then softened her tone. “Why do you need to make money?”
“To eat, obviously. I’m just a pathetic little Demon Beast with no big backing like you,” Feini said.
“You’re clearly a Demon Sword,” Qingshamu challenged.
“Are you deaf? Or did you forget the confessions you got under torture? Didn’t I tell you I was expelled by the Demon King’s Army? I’m a Parasite Demon Sword. Without someone to host me, I’m worthless. Understand? Otherwise, just kill me already. I’m tired of your nagging. Don’t disturb my deliveries.” Feini stood her ground and stormed off.
One run after another, one order, two orders, three, four, Feini spent her entire lunch break delivering food.
When there were no more orders, she went to the Lower Beast Cafeteria next door to sell two Ruby Burgers and two Large Beef Steaks.
This time Feini was smarter, eating a Ruby Burger while walking, not wasting a second.
At that moment, Qingshamu silently caught up again, like a shadow she just couldn’t shake off.
“Did you even listen to what I told you?” Qingshamu said coldly.
“…” Feini stayed silent and tossed the Beast Detection Box back to her.
“Are you looking for death? Wait, what’s this?” Qingshamu thought Feini was giving up, her anger flaring, but after catching the box, she found it had collected quite a lot of intelligence.
“I hid it under the table. It doesn’t need someone to watch it when it activates,” Feini explained.
“That’s way too dangerous,” Qingshamu said worriedly. “What if you get discovered?”
“If it weren’t dangerous, you wouldn’t have sent me. If I get caught, just kill me,” Feini smiled bitterly.
“…” Qingshamu was momentarily speechless.
“Stop pretending. I’ve collected the info for you. Don’t follow me. Stay away from my room.”
Qingshamu stood rooted, dumbfounded.
Feini carefully returned to the storage room and quickly shut the door.
So many annoying troubles. Luckily, her kids were well-behaved.
Little Black Dragon was hanging asleep from the ceiling.
Little White was studying hard, reading the textbooks Feini left in the room.
It was clear these two weren’t ordinary kids—who had a talking, reading child just days old?
But Little Black Dragon just ate and slept, pure appetite all around.
