After hesitating for a moment, Riyami finally took the dagger along with the wooden box.
She certainly didn’t intend to use it to assassinate Colin, but rather planned to dispose of it at the earliest opportunity during this mission, ensuring the assassination would fail.
For example, if they encountered an enemy they couldn’t handle and had no choice but to use it, or if it accidentally broke, or if it was simply thrown away.
Of course, all these scenarios had one major problem: how to convince the Guild Leader afterward. Riyami had no idea how to handle that issue, but she couldn’t actually assassinate Colin. So for now, she could only take things one step at a time.
After gathering her equipment, Riyami met up with Colin downstairs, and together they headed toward the rendezvous point that Sylphnie had mentioned.
On the outskirts of Kite City, Riyami and Colin arrived at a hidden little cave. Inside, Sylphnie was preparing something on the ground.
“Is it really necessary to be this secretive? Why can’t we just use the manor?”
Riyami glanced around and noticed Sylphnie was setting up a teleportation magic circle, puzzled, she asked.
Sylphnie rolled her eyes at Riyami and said irritably, “The place we’re going to used to be a demon tribe’s dwelling. What if we’re not careful and someone thinks we’re up to no good?”
“Hmm, alright, I get it.”
After receiving Sylphnie’s glare, Riyami stopped pressing the matter and calmly waited with Colin for Sylphnie to complete the magic circle.
After a while, Sylphnie finished the magic circle and had Riyami and Colin stand on it with her.
The magic circle beneath their feet emitted a bright light, so dazzling Riyami almost couldn’t keep her eyes open.
She inwardly complained: Why do all magic circles have to glow? And so brightly! What’s the point of that?
No one answered Riyami’s question in her mind. With a flash, Riyami reopened her eyes and found herself in a different place.
Though it was still inside a cave, this one was completely different from the last. This cave was much larger.
Riyami looked around and saw no signs of a dwelling or anything like that.
“Does Alec really live in a cave like this? Is he some kind of troglodyte? Why would he like a place like this?”
“I don’t know if he’s a troglodyte, but he definitely doesn’t live here.”
Sylphnie said that and lit her staff as she moved forward. Colin immediately stepped in front of her and emitted a soft glow around his body.
Riyami followed behind, walking last, and continued to ask, “Then why did you teleport us here?”
Sylphnie glanced at Riyami—more accurately, at the spot above her forehead.
“Sometimes I really wonder if you have a brain at all. Alec’s residence is, after all, a demon’s place. It definitely has protections. How could someone as wise and powerful as me teleport straight inside? We can only teleport nearby and then proceed on foot.”
“I see…”
Riyami muttered, ignoring the first half of Sylphnie’s remark. After all, Sylphnie often insulted her like that before.
Not just Riyami—Sylphnie also scolded Eireno, Lavinia, and even Colin with similar words. They were long used to Sylphnie’s abuse.
For some reason, Sylphnie liked to act all powerful in front of them, but to Riyami, no matter how strong Sylphnie acted, she only seemed like a shrill little girl.
Someone as magnanimous as Riyami certainly wouldn’t bother arguing with a shrill little girl. That’s right, she wasn’t angry. Besides, she still needed Sylphnie’s help now, didn’t she?
Convinced by her own reasoning, Riyami quietly put away the syringe she had just taken out—the one Sylphnie would definitely recognize. Of course, this didn’t mean she was giving up on having Sylphnie perform another health check; it was just not the right time now. She’d wait until they returned…
Walking behind Colin, Sylphnie shivered. She looked around, hunched her neck, and said uncertainly, “Is it because we’re walking in a lightless cave? I feel a bit cold.”
Hearing this, Colin made the soft glow around him warmer.
“Better now?”
“Phew~ Much better, thank you!”
Sylphnie exhaled and kept moving forward, completely unaware that Riyami behind her had already begun thinking about which potion to use on Sylphnie once they returned.
As they walked, Colin suddenly stopped. Sylphnie instantly went on guard, and Riyami drew the two daggers at her waist, sensing the shadows nearby.
These two daggers were Riyami’s favorite weapons, named “Twin Moons.” Not only could they easily penetrate ordinary armor, but they were also highly adaptable to magical energy. When infused with magic, their power increased greatly.
For example, Riyami’s “Shadow into Blade” skill could be applied to them, enhancing their strength further and even changing their length—extending the daggers into short swords. This gave Riyami more tactical flexibility.
As for why she hadn’t brought them on the earlier assassination mission against the “Furnace Hook,” it was because she thought the Shadow Blade alone was more convenient for a stealth mission. Besides, it was just assassinating a slave trader; she didn’t think she’d need the Twin Moons.
Who knew a simple assassination task would be so complicated, even involving a demon suddenly appearing? These were things Riyami hadn’t anticipated before setting out.
Another reason was that their maintenance costs were extremely high—so expensive that even Riyami dared not use them casually. If they broke, months of assassination work would be wasted.
Back in the present, Riyami sensed something in the shadows and her figure melted into a puddle of darkness, slowly vanishing.
Only a few seconds later, a rabbit-like creature was kicked out from a shadow to Colin’s right. Following it out was Riyami herself, who should have been behind Sylphnie.
“Just this assassin rabbit. No other monsters.”
Riyami wiped the blood off the daggers and said to Colin. After cleaning them, she returned behind Sylphnie.
In this world, besides normal animals, there were creatures called monsters. Although they looked very similar to normal animals, they were aggressive, especially toward humanoid beings.
Aside from demons, monsters showed little aggression toward the demon race. In fact, many demons kept monsters as pets. Because of this, some speculated that demons created monsters, but lacking evidence, it remained just a theory.
Riyami didn’t care much about the connection between monsters and demons. To her, they were just enemies to be eliminated.
Seeing no other danger, Colin continued leading the group forward. Sylphnie glanced at the rabbit corpse still twitching slightly on the ground, then at Riyami, and without a word, followed Colin onward.
