“This should be our first time meeting, right, Miss Zhiyan?”
Sapphire floated in midair, flying toward Blazing Flame and extended her left hand warmly.
“Ah, yes! Good afternoon, Miss Sapphire!”
Seeing her idol up close, Blazing Flame trembled slightly with excitement, her breathing quickened, and she nervously shook Sapphire’s hand.
She never imagined she’d run into the Magic Girl she admired today, let alone have the honor to fight alongside her.
Though being a male called Miss Zhiyan by her idol felt a bit embarrassing, being able to see the Magic Girl who had always protected him was simply wonderful!
Thinking like this, encountering Monsters wasn’t such a bad thing after all…
Uh, no, actually it’s better if all the Monsters just die out.
She definitely didn’t want to see people attacked by Monsters.
“Relax. I’ve just been around for one more year than you, it’s nothing special. If you want to chat, let’s first clean up the Shadow Beasts here,” Sapphire said calmly. “How’s the situation? Any wounded that need treatment?”
“No one’s hurt. I’ve already evacuated the nearby civilians. But these Bug Monsters keep appearing nonstop. I’m worried if they gather, it’ll cause big trouble.”
Hearing Sapphire’s inquiry, Blazing Flame instantly switched back into battle mode.
Though she didn’t understand why Sapphire called the Monsters Shadow Beasts, she truthfully explained the situation she was facing.
“Hm, it’s obvious the Shadow Beasts here can’t be killed off completely. There seems to be a source constantly summoning these bugs.”
“The source… Indeed, I also feel something is summoning these Monsters.”
Blazing Flame nodded and turned her gaze toward the unknown Giant Egg in the distance.
If asked which Monster on the scene looked most like the summoning source, there was no doubt it was the tens-of-meters-tall mysterious Giant Egg.
“You probably aren’t good at facing multiple enemies at once, right, Blazing Flame?” Sapphire glanced at the greatsword in Blazing Flame’s hands. “How do you plan to approach that ugly Giant Egg?”
“Well, I don’t know. How about we just charge straight at it?” Blazing Flame hesitated.
“Charge straight in? Are you planning to brute force your way through the bugs? Think you can kill them all?” Sapphire mercilessly criticized.
“Then how exactly should I get close to that Giant Egg?”
Blazing Flame scratched her head, looking at Sapphire with a pleading expression.
“If you run toward that Giant Egg at your maximum speed, how many minutes would you need to get close and smash it?”
Sapphire didn’t answer directly but instead asked Blazing Flame a question.
“At maximum speed? Probably about five minutes. But if the bugs block me, it might take longer, maybe fifteen minutes or…”
“Five minutes? That’s enough.”
“What?”
Blazing Flame looked at Sapphire in confusion.
“I’ll distract the bugs. You find a place to hide, and when you see my Magic Cannon fire, rush straight to the Giant Egg and smash it,” Sapphire ordered.
“Wait, what if you’re in danger? Let me go instead—”
“Enough whining! It’s decided!”
Sapphire snapped and charged forward without listening to Blazing Flame’s protests.
Holding her magic wand, she arrogantly floated and hovered in midair, drawing the Monsters’ attention.
“Roar!”
Countless Monsters turned their gaze toward Sapphire and rushed at her, their howls echoing in the distance.
“So many Monsters… Can Miss Sapphire handle this?”
Listening to the continuous Monster roars, Blazing Flame felt her scalp tingle, worried for Sapphire.
She paced anxiously, imagining all the dangers Sapphire might face.
Blazing Flame wanted to rush over to help clear out the bugs but feared doing so would ruin Sapphire’s plan.
“So annoying…”
Blazing Flame felt frustrated.
Why wasn’t she the one distracting the Monsters instead of Sapphire?
Although Sapphire was far more experienced and had better achievements as a Magic Girl, Blazing Flame still wished she could be the one attracting the Monsters, letting Sapphire focus on smashing the Giant Egg.
That way, even if Blazing Flame died, Sapphire could still succeed…
“Whew… ha…”
Realizing her thoughts were becoming strange, Blazing Flame slapped her face, exhaled heavily, and tried to keep herself clear-headed.
No, she couldn’t think like that—it was too dangerous.
She had to trust Sapphire.
As a senior who debuted a whole year earlier, Sapphire understood Monsters better and wouldn’t let her fall into danger.
Sapphire’s arrangement showed absolute confidence in Blazing Flame’s strength, so she had to believe in her.
Be patient and hopeful.
After convincing herself not to overthink, Blazing Flame clenched her greatsword tightly, her expression serious as she waited for the Magic Cannon.
Ten minutes after Sapphire charged forward, Blazing Flame finally saw the “Magic Cannon” she had mentioned.
A brilliant sapphire-blue beam suddenly burst forth from the ruins, blasting toward the Giant Egg, stirring stones and dust into the air, making all nearby light sources pale in comparison.
It’s here! Such overwhelming destructive power!
Seeing Sapphire’s Magic Cannon, Blazing Flame instantly realized all her earlier worries were pointless.
With such a powerful Magic backing her, Sapphire had no need for her concern.
She probably could handle the Giant Egg and those bugs alone!
But since Sapphire gave her the chance to act, she wasn’t about to waste it!
Thinking this, Blazing Flame wasted no time and dashed at the Giant Egg with full force, leaving afterimages behind.
With such an explosive burst, only the sound of sonic booms accompanied her charge—no bug could block her path. Those bugs had long since been drawn away by Sapphire.
The price for this was her left-hand bracelet’s power rapidly depleting—more than fifteen percent gone in just over two minutes.
But the cost was worth it.
Blazing Flame had now reached the Giant Egg unimpeded.
After casually killing the last Bug Monster blocking her path, she stared at the massive egg pulsating like a heart.
She took a deep breath.
Then raised her greatsword and swung down at the Giant Egg.
“Huh?”
The expected resistance and hard shell didn’t appear.
Like cracking an egg on the edge of a bowl, Blazing Flame’s powerful swing shattered the Giant Egg’s shell with a crash, spilling out black-green liquid.
“Is it over just like that…?”
Watching the colossal egg collapse after she cracked its shell and quickly shrivel into a thin eggshell, Blazing Flame hesitated but decided to strike one more time to prevent the egg from reviving.
As her second blow landed, a piercing cry suddenly echoed in her mind.
Blazing Flame closed her eyes in pain, clutching her head and dropping to one knee, forced to listen to wails she couldn’t understand but somehow grasped their meaning.
“Night Demon! Damn Night Demon! I’ve finally found you!”
“Let my strongest child tear apart your body, feast on your flesh, drain your brain, and consume everything you have as nourishment for its growth!”
